And, lastly, a rather humorous story about Alito’s mom that Steve may remember. Alito’s mom lived in the town next to Trenton. When Alito was nominated, a reporter from the Trenton Times knocks on her door and she answered a few of his questions. The next day she was quoted as saying “Of course he opposes abortion!”

Needless to say, that was the first and last interview with Alito’s mom.

Neither Alito nor Thomas have ever been unbiased, never really amenable to compromise for the betterment of the people. They grew in darkness like mushrooms. They both are about using their power to mold society in their own personal images. They have been consistent but when the court was more balanced, they hid. Scalia was the tip of their spear. With the 3 new conservative justices added, they are becoming groomers. They don’t stand for either the letter of the law nor the spirit of the law.

They are political animals that have created laws based on fictitious litigants and injecting pretzel logic to peruse their own agendas .

There are really no safeguards for hijacking the law. Until Congress does pass rules with teeth, they are free to take bribes and carry out their personal whims.

Again, age ceiling, an ethics code with the ability of impeachment should be in place.

The lifetime appointments were created to avoid making the court a political arm of either party. This court has shown, that the lifetime appointments system has failed. So term limits are now necessary.

Roberts comes off very well here, though my opinion of him is still not very good.

Why does Robert do everything? He can to prevent black people from having a fair chance to vote?

Expand full comment

I once thought that Roberts cared about the reputation of his court. I no longer believe that. He is like a referee without a whistle that keeps making bad calls, but knows he'll never lose his job. His court is insulated and isolated from public opinion (except for the three liberal judges) but they all know they have lifetime appointments. Absolute power corrupts absolutely - you see this with Alito & Thomas. They thumb their noses at popular opinion, really don't care about women & minorities and the less people that vote, the better chance their party (the GQP) stays in power.

Roberts is not coming off well. He is only stating what should be the most obviously basic fudemental corereception. of the Supreme Court. No congrats for that. He is also basically complict in the radicalism. So what he says that to a guest at a reception. What matters is what he does in the SCOTUS. Also you may want to proofread your comment.

Of course I can't spellcheck worth a damn.

I do not care about the fanatics in any religion even mind. They live in a surreal world. We need to appoint a few atheists to the court that believe in separation of church and state to keep the balance.

Expand full comment

I agree,

Evangelicals are taught to accept the beliefs and opinions of their manipulative leaders, to think deductively; men like Joel Osteen, Franklin Graham, and Ted Haggard, use television, social media, and public gatherings to gain control over their congregations by brainwashing them into accepting illogical beliefs with no foundation in fact or reason. They do this by first conditioning their followers to accept the idea that an omnipotent God impregnated a virgin resulting in His birth as a human; God was his own father. In human form He suffered terribly to compensate for the sins people committed against Him. To be saved you must accept this sacrifice and contribute as much as you can afford to the preachers (conmen) so they can spread the word, even if that entails the purchase of $54,000,000 jets, expensive clothes, and lavish homes.

They then are able to convince their followers that a frozen fertilized egg is a baby; politicians who are exploiting them are working in their interests by cutting taxes on the wealthiest, eliminating or reducing social security, ACA, medicare and medicaid, ignoring climate change, victimizing immigrants, and advocating for a Christian theocracy. Overpriced Bibles are being promoted and sold to fund political agendas.

We do need outspoken atheists in government to call out those trying to undermine the clear separation of Church and State required by the first sentence of the first amendment.

Well said! I was raised in a religious cult (Garner Ted Armstrong) and you have described it perfectly. It was/is a grift. I recognized Trump as the MAGA-Cult leader in 2015. Thanks.

Alito = Arrogance

It is interesting how Alito was angry about gay marriage and workplace protections for gay people because the Constitution explicitly says nothing about it.

YET, Alito gave Constitutional rights to corporations.

I would like to point out that the word corporation does not exist in the Constitution.

The neighbor who had a run in with Martha Alito has spoken up about the lies and misrepresentations of the Alitos in defense of the traitorous upside down flag that flew outside their home. We don’t need a secret recording to understand completely how corrupt this couple is in forcing their Christian beliefs on the entire country. Samuel Alito does not belong on the Supreme Court. Neither do the other four Federalist, Leonard Leo bought and paid for Christian nationalists. We will not obey nor yield to their attempts to turn the clock back to the early 1960’s. I lived through those times growing up. It was oppressive to women, and Black people. Never again!!!

Remember when the Supreme Court ruled that the 1964 Civil Rights Act protected gay people from workplace discrimination?

Guess who wrote the outraged dissent.

I was thinking Medieval era definitely.

Possibly something from the Big Bang. God was behind that one, right? However, it involves science and MAGAts aren't too fond of that approach.

Why are the Dems so quiet in the face of all of this traitorish behavior by the members of the Supreme Court? Why is this OK with our elected officials? I’ve called, I’ve written to my guys - but of course I live in FloriDUH…

I just don’t get it!

It’s time for Thomas and Alito to retire themselves, lest they find their reputations further damaged (as we uncover further evidence of their faithlessness.)

Yeah, like they’re going to do that.

Except that Thomas wants to spend all that loot he has and drive his RV. He’s been making noise about retirement for a few years now and has held off because he’s been actively “bribed.” I say put the pressure on and keep it on. But you’re not wrong!

I don’t think this will change anything with regard to the court. And I am not in favor of this type of recording of people without their knowledge. In some respects, this could make things worse.

When I look at what he wrote in Dobbs — he said Roe was “egregiously wrong from the start.” No ambivalence there. It was all wrong from day one. Black and white. No gray area. None. The recording seems no less strident than that.

Expand full comment

Agree about this kind of "gotcha" recordings. Not a good look. And honestly, the kind of thing the right has been doing for years and we've bitched about. Yes, SCOTUS needs oversight and ethical standards, but this is not the way to get there.

Expand full comment

Completely disagree. To overuse certain metaphors, progressives always bring knives to gunfights, tie one hand behind their backs, etc. That is why Republicans have owned the Democrats. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Expand full comment

I don’t believe conservatives own progressives, and I am not in favor of gotcha type recording of people. It changes nothing at the Supreme Court. We only have the ballot. If people stopped electing politicians who represent the interests of the Federalist society, then we might make better progress. I tell people here in North Carolina, if you don’t agree with the ignorant statements the MAGA candidate for Governor has made, then Good Lord, do not vote for him!

It has actually been difficult to get that message through to people here.

Expand full comment

I 100% support your right to feel that way. And it's okay that we disagree. I'll ask one question: other than serving as a distraction and causing outrage that will result in absolutely no change, what will this accomplish? I can wait, but I'll give you a hint: nothing is the answer. The desperation you refer to won't do a damn thing to change the cases pending before SCOTUS now or their decisions now. Therefore, it achieves absolutely nothing effective at this time. All in the right time. To me, that's just not now because it won't matter - now.

As for me, I'll focus on making sure that the POS TFG doesn't win in November. Because if that happens, none of this means shit. I'm not saying Alito's and Thomas's actions are right, but currently there is little that can be done other than bitching about it. The prize is kicking TFG's ass in November and every day from now until then. And then prosecute the POS after that in the Federal cases and GA where delays are preventing convictions of obvious crimes. Anything that keeps us from achieving that is a waste of damn time - at least right now. Eyes on the prize.

So, feel free to bitch all you want and pretend that means you're bringing more than a knife to a gunfight. Convince yourself that delusion is real and impactful. So, boil over about these two corrupt justices and their pathetic wives. I'm not playing that game.

Expand full comment

Steve is bringing truth to light. Not just allowing it to silently slide by. There is great importance to that. YOU are the one who's bitching.

Expand full comment

Okay, thanks for that unhelpful comment. I'm just trying to keep us focused on what we can actually change between now and the election. None of this, NONE of it, can be changed now. No one should care about their wives either, as they're not on the Court. So, just become what we've disliked if you want. I'm not willing to do that. That is exactly the kind of rhetoric about the "Biden crime family" by the completely ignorant on the other side. It's not a good look when they do it - and not for us either.

Look, we all know the issues with the court. Reality, not bitching, is that absolutely nothing can or will be done about it by November. "Steve is bringing truth to light" is fine and I agree. I'm talking about the ridiculous comments about overhauling SCOTUS with ethical standards and reforms, term limits, packing the court, etc. Since that WILL NEVER HAPPEN by November, it's a distraction and waste of time now. Win the election, win both Houses of Congress, then start working on SCOTUS ethical standards and reforms. So feel free to focus your ire and insults at me if it makes you feel better. Me? I want to focus on things that matter. And until November, this is ineffective. If calling it such means I'm bitching about it, so be it.

Are you able to read your own comments? You are bitching about other people who--in your words--are bitching. Straight up with the the b-word and everything. But then when somebody calls you out, you're all hypocrite snowflake tears. And sorry, I won't be reading your next 400-word rant. Try pounding sand at the beach instead.

Yes, as far as I know it is illegal to record someone in Montana without their permission. I have mixed feeling about the recording, as it did expose the corruption we suspected was there. It is worse than I even knew. The sneaky recording, though, was off-putting to me, too. Thanks for standing up for forthrightness.

Sandra D. O'Connor must be one history's most corrupted and hypocritical members of SCOTUS for her swing vote role in the the 5-4 Bush v Gore decision where she went against ALL Supreme Court precedent and her own core philosopy to put the wheels of judicial radicalism in motion. THAT is what she needs to be remembered for.

This was another fine post, providing a lot of useful information, and I agree with the point of view expressed, but I must admit to considerable misgivings about the way Ms. Windsor obtained her information. When I first read about Alito's statement, I thought he was the one that used the word "godliness." In fact, it was Ms. Windsor who put that word into his mouth. Alito cheerfully and arrogantly stepped into that beanball.

Re Mrs. Alito, I was at once terrified and amused by her (probably unintentional) reference to an old meme: "Ve haff vays......"

Trump and his Republican predecessors, with the help of their acolytes in Congress, have already corrupted SCOTUS with horrendous consequences,. Imagine the United States under a second Trump administration. Two more frightening possibilities, a CIA headed by Putin advocate Paul Mannafort and an FBI directed by the notorious man with Nixon tattooed on his back, Roger Stone.
