Activist and documentary maker Lauren Windsor secretly recorded damning and incredible remarks from Justice Samuel Alito and his wife. They come after the couple has been linked to a number of controversies tying them to MAGA and the radical right. I explain why Alito is unfit for the Supreme Court. Autocracy has come to the Supreme Court, and it’s wearing judicial robes.
And, lastly, a rather humorous story about Alito’s mom that Steve may remember. Alito’s mom lived in the town next to Trenton. When Alito was nominated, a reporter from the Trenton Times knocks on her door and she answered a few of his questions. The next day she was quoted as saying “Of course he opposes abortion!”
Needless to say, that was the first and last interview with Alito’s mom.
Neither Alito nor Thomas have ever been unbiased, never really amenable to compromise for the betterment of the people. They grew in darkness like mushrooms. They both are about using their power to mold society in their own personal images. They have been consistent but when the court was more balanced, they hid. Scalia was the tip of their spear. With the 3 new conservative justices added, they are becoming groomers. They don’t stand for either the letter of the law nor the spirit of the law.
They are political animals that have created laws based on fictitious litigants and injecting pretzel logic to peruse their own agendas .
There are really no safeguards for hijacking the law. Until Congress does pass rules with teeth, they are free to take bribes and carry out their personal whims.
Again, age ceiling, an ethics code with the ability of impeachment should be in place.
The lifetime appointments were created to avoid making the court a political arm of either party. This court has shown, that the lifetime appointments system has failed. So term limits are now necessary.
