All those Boxes of classified documents stacked in the fancy bathroom at Mar-a-lago are clear evidence that Trump, Melania, Jared and Ivanka took a big dump on the United States of America.

Lisa, did you know that hoarding, protecting and being anal about one’s boxes of papers is part of the narcissistic personality disorder? The man I use as a comparison with Trump, because they are SO much alike in almost every way, was e try protective of his boxes. Like, way overboard. This makes me wonder if Trump passes out, or nearly, at the sight of blood. This was another feature of the extreme narcissist I encountered long enough to understand his ways.

Expand full comment

Susan, Wow -I didn't know about the hoarding part of narcissistic personality disorder. I'm not surprised. It sounds like you have had personal experience with this and I sure hope it wasn't stressful for you. I never see DJT changing at ALL! Thanks and Best to You! Lisa

Expand full comment

One more feature of a malign narcissist that is important at this stage: They are terrified of being found out, and of being in a position where they are scrutinized (court). Or being in the position where the “little people” tell him what he can and cannot do. Which is everyone but him. Terrified.

...and there are must haves too: they can’t be alone. They must have people around. They must have a beautiful wife or girlfriend, and they must be thought to be rich. They are miserly with money.

And by the way, Trump is the identical twin of the person I referred to. But for one thing. Trump is flamboyant and the other man, though he wanted to be noticed did it subtly through the back door. Played it way down. It mostly worked.

He likely was more intelligent than the Orange Sadist. Then again, I guess that most people are. :-)

Narcissists can’t be smart because they cant learn. Grad, miserliness, self-protection and hoarding get in the way of intelligence.

This whole chapter is beyond appalling, beyond reprehensible, so far beyond any pre-existing construct, paradigm or historic reference either in history or our mind's eye. This entropic plot with unidimensional outlandish characters would not be penned by novice, by Chat GPT, by a feral fleabag singing for some tuna- it is flimsy, improbable, inconceivable....

...and yeti, here we are.

This space and others have nailed it to the wall with the characterization of the minions, these ridiculous bootlicking toadies contorting themselves into grotesque fawning positions that are the measure of the moment.

Contemptible, vile, and abhorrent, how these creatures bat Trumpism around like a beach ball in a crowded stadium, only It's full of C4 and they chortle as the waft their madness over the fabric of this country.

Well said plus it’s such a violation of our sense of national sanity ( what is left of it ) this authoritarian movement that has been growing in the GOP since Newt Gingrich is so fundamentally abusive . The Democratic Party maybe a bit of a mess , but they are not an abusive institution that condones illegal behavior . Hillary was investigated , Biden is being investigated and lord know about Hunter . If any of it is deemed to be illegal , let justice prevail . I don’t have my identity strapped to a candidate like a suicide bomber . What is going on is unthinkable for a normal president but imaginable with this guy

I think it has to be domestic terrorism. Done as J6 was done. But over the long haul. It’s an attempted takeover. It enlists the gullible, the fearful, the victims, the ones looking for a savior to be back up. It’s Russia? Maybe the Saudis. Maybe it’s corporations. Or the Christians. Maybe it’s....just a money grab as the end approaches.

Steve, can you talk some more about how to dismantle the Electoral College? I think the popular vote to determine our elections is the only way out. Thank you!

Expand full comment

It cannot be done without a Constitutional amendment and you do not want a new Constitutional Convention because these RW lunatics are itching to dismantle the Bill of Rights. There is currently a push for a new convention going on. The answer for now is to mobilize voters. It’s very hard, but the only solution.

It could be done an amendment to the current Constitution (look at Prohibition) or a decision to make the House of Representatives fully reflective of the current population, which would increase the # of members to somewhere in the 560-580 range, rendering the 270 number moot. No idea where they would put their offices (it's packed up there right now) but it could be done.

Expand full comment

There is no way you will get 2/3 of both Houses of Congress and 3/4 of the States to ratify such an amendment. Not today. Not when it means the GOP would give up it’s only means of taking the WH short of coming back to reality--which cannot be done with the current GOP base. It may be small, but their base consistently votes and it doesn’t take a large number to win a primary. And no, open primaries are not the answer. You want a say in who the candidate for a party should be, then join the party.

More than the House of Rep, having the SENATE reflect parity in population numbers is far, far, far overdue! ONE voter in Montana has a voice in the Senate equal to FORTY citizens in California! It sickens me.

Expand full comment

But doesn’t the gerrymandering make the votes null and void? And now Texass decided they will overturn any election when Dems win. We are in a real mess. I remember reading about the constitutional convention craziness…..oh Lord, MAP.

Expand full comment

There is an alternative to amending the Constitution which is within reach. The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, which if passed by enough states, will guarantee that the winner of the popular vote in the election also wins the electoral college. Participants pledge to award all of their electoral college votes to the popular vote winner nationwide. So far, 17 states have adopted it representing 205 electoral college votes guaranteed to the winner of the popular vote in the election. When additional states pass this adding just 65 additional electoral college votes, it will be effective in ensuring that the popular vote winner will win the presidency. This is an attainable goal! For more information, see https://www.nationalpopularvote.com/written-explanation

Expand full comment

It is not within reach. That’s a pipe dream. There is no way it would be ratified by Congress if it did miraculously pass in 3/4 of the states. Have you seen the make up of Congress? No way do 2/3 of Republicans do away with the one sure mean they have of winning the WH with today’s electorate.

Expand full comment

The beauty of it is that Congress has nothing to do with it. It an agreement between states. Please read the description.

Expand full comment

You cannot change it without a Constitutional Amendment. Not by states’ “agreement.” The EC was established in the US Constitution. So yes, Congress IS involved. The states that have passed this legislation are all solid D. It’s just not f going to happen anytime soon.

Expand full comment

I’m not sure why you are stating falsehoods. Again, the beauty of it is that it adheres strictly to the existing Constitution, no change needed. This is explained in detail.

They won’t even pass The Equal Rights Amendment.

Forget an amendment. No red state legislature would vote in favor. But there is a movement to create a compact with states that represent 270 electoral votes to direct their electors to cast their votes in the EC in accordance with the national popular vote.

We have let our country go for far too long. How many schools teach American history and the civic responsibility of citizens? Why don’t we ask our young people to do some kind of national service? Too few know our history and even fewer have family members who work for the benefit of country. There has to be more to the US than making Gulf money and hating everyone who is different.

The only documented evidence of her speaking French - one of her languages of supposed fluency - is video of her interacting with French schoolchildren. She greets them with a "bonjour", introduces herself with a "je m'appelle", and then proceeds to SPEAK ENGLISH to them for the rest of the visit. Heck, I can do better than that and I flunked out of French in middle school.

Apparently that is all that she can say in French, yet the WH has claimed that as "fluency"!! Ditto re Italian (which she also claims): her word in Italian which makes her "fluent" is caio. "Melania Trump boasted about her language skills during the 2016 presidential campaign. In February 2016, she sat for an interview with MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski, during which she discussed her modeling career. She also stated that spoke English, Italian, French, German, as well as Slovenian."

Mary Jordan, the author of “The Art of Her Deal: The Untold Story of Melania Trump,” wrote that she wasn’t able to independently confirm the extent of Melania Trump’s language abilities.

“I couldn’t find any videos showing her fluency in anything other than Slovenian and English,” Jordan wrote. “I asked the White House if they could point to any evidence, and they did not respond.”

I don't know what it is like to have no moral rudder. I don't know what makes these idiots tick. But I do hope that anyone who commits violence for his benefit is severely punished, just as I hope those in Congress who were involved in the 1/6 attack on our country are as well.

The root problem with Trump is that he’s never been told “NO!” His behavior is somewhat predictable based on a that alone. What is even more surprising to me is that his followers (cult) follow along like little puppies. I’m really tired of hearing “that’s Donnie just being Donnie!” I’m sorry but thuggery can’t be dismissed that easily. Pardon the pun but he’s finally been boxed in!

Yes! I am hoping that one of the Judges Trump will face - will finally say to him, Sir, Who won the popular vote in the 2016 general? Response, I did, by a lot. Sir, what was the 2020 electoral count? I don’t know, it was rigged! And, who won the popular in 2020, you or Mr. Biden? I did. By a lot! Then, Judge, I deem Mr. Trump incompetent to stand trial. He’s not tuned in to reality.

Documents Judge: Mr. Trump, Sir, do you understand the charges against you, and are you able to assist your counsel with your defense? I did nothing wrong. This is a Witch Hunt and Hoax. And, no, I will not assist my attnys, I will continue to speak out against the Trump haters.

If this happened in real life - the Judge would say: The defendant will be evaluated for 6 months by professionals in a medical facility, and, I will make a determination after the 6 months if he’s competent enough at that time to stand trial. Court is adjourned!

Boxes or outfits. Remember back to the VERY old Jack Benny skit with the robber--your money or your life. Jack Benny-I'm thinking, I'm thinking. Outfits win over state secrets and all you can ever imagine about Trump illustrated in one visual.

A bathroom filled with federal record boxes filled with international secrets. A bathroom is not a SCIF, nor a boat for that matter, since Trump also misspelled the acronym last week. A former President has no need of a SCIF unless it is required as part of a federal Presidential Library (they're under the control of NARA, so they set the standards).

Yes I read the threats last week by current Members of Congress and wanna-be failed Governors. Do they worry me, yes, in that people might be hurt. However, I also know we have a very different approach this time to any threat of violence. Again, will be interesting to see what occurs on Tuesday in Miami.
