This week, the former The National Enquirer publisher David Pecker testified in Trump's criminal trial. He said that he fabricated stories, including one about Ted Cruz's family, that Trump used on the campaign trail. In today’s commentary, I explain that the media lying at the behest of Trump is old news. I know because I was at the center of a smear campaign to ruin my credibility by linking me to the former president:

Unfortunately, this is something once out of the box, it can never be put back in. And coupled with the general dumbing down of our society, sorting good and bad or fact and fiction becomes extremely difficult.
We can only hope for better education. But I even question that as not possible. Here in North Carolina, we are likely to elect in November a QAnon Conspiracist to run the State’s Public School System. I kid not.

Your focus on lies vs. truth being at the crux of the dangerous situation our country is facing seems right on the mark. Aside from Trump, others who promote dangerous unreality are Flynn, Bannon and Stone. These three fabricators and fabulists are likely three of the main architects of the rolling insurrection that is not yet over. Flynn continues this type of rhetoric and more so to this day on his ReAwaken America Tour, which is currently promoting his movie about himself and continuing to promote conspiracy theories. His rousing rhetoric that mixes Christianity and military references likely is inspiring his fans to be prepared to fight for what he tells them to, similar to what happened leading up to January 6th.
I suspect that most here are to young to remember I. F. Stone. He was my hero in the world of journalism. I urge folks to go back and read his columns where available.
The RWM seems to be in a competition to see who can come up with the most outrageous and impactful lies. Foxnews/Hannity/Watters is likely the leader of the pack, but Clay...two time Obama voter...Travis is the most pathetically lame conman of them all.
