I have only two entities to blame for all of this... the news media (mostly fox and sinclair broadcasting) but network news as well, and social media. I believe the network news just follows the money. It's all about money and power. Frankly, I have little faith that we as a nation will survive this. In my 69 years, I never, ever could have conceived this could happen. Half my family won't speak to me because they are all so completely brainwashed. What a tragedy to befall this once-glorious nation.

Agree especially with the tragedy to the nation. Sorry about your family.🌸

I blame Citizens United and The Fairness Doctrine and the U.S. Supreme Court for aiding and abetting the disintegration of democracy. The rot goes deep.

I agree with you Marlene. I am so worried. Also many of my family and old friends are brainwashed in the Trump cult. Others are just both siding everything….it is heartbreaking

Marlene, I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your family members to MAGA. I've been through this in rural Montana, and I dearly miss the beloved family I once had. It is a tragedy, because the MAGA-CULT followers have been exploited, and don't know it, by those MAGA leaders (and Russian cyber warfare and Billionaire special-interest groups, etc)...their plan is to 'divide and conquer' and it is working, sadly, which is destroying our country. It has become a living nightmare for so many. Much of the media is the amplifier for this insanity, as you know. The losses to millions of us can be devastating and long-lasting. I've received a great deal of support and needed sharing here on The Warning and I'm glad you found this community. Best to you, Lisa

Power corrupts. John Kelly needs to admit and apologize for his misguided decisions that have brought us to this precarious ledge from which our democracy will fall. He and every other person who thought by being the adult in the office of the Man-Toddler would be heroes. Aligning with villains is wrong.

If we take him seriously, what aren’t the authorities doing so? DJT shared nuclear secrets with an Australian businessman, who turned around and shared with 45 others allegedly and continues to walk free. If it was the average person I am sure they would be talking to the authorities right now. Democrats get on this immediately! I don’t care how you do it, but do it!

Jack Smith IS on this. He interviewed the Australian businessman twice and am

sure the others, including the

2 reporters, who info was shared with. Have some faith

in Madame Justice via Jack

Don’t know about the Senate but the House Dems can’t do anything officially because the House is in recess for a week thanks to the Speaker Pro Tempore. Trump is already indicted for the classified docs and we know Jack Smith is looking into this.

What exactly do you want them to do besides say for the thousandth time that the leading GOP candidate for president is a danger to our security?

As for John Kelly, like all those Trump acolytes before him; he FAILED miserably. John is a gold star parent, yet when Trump was saying all these negative comments about soldiers who died, were wounded and against John McCain, where was John Kelly? All we heard were crickets.

Don’t you think this was information the country could have used years ago? In real time, along with his resignation?

He’s no better than all of Trump’s men, including Bolton, Barr, Scaramucci, and even in the media with Woodward. All had recriminating information, but chose to withhold it; until the book tour.

Kelly may be a true hero, who served honorary, and whose family paid the ultimate price, but when America needed him most, he was absent and derelict of duty!

Expand full comment

Oh now they want to come clean after the damage has been done. They weren’t willing to sacrifice their jobs and power when DJT was considering all of the negative against our country. The ordinary Americans weren’t privy to this information and should have been made aware of it. Most were waiting to cash in with a book. Guess what, I refused to buy information that I should have known as a citizen of this country. My taxes paid for that information. Now we have to pay catch up and it’s probably too late..😡

Barr was especially instrumental in keeping tRump in power and shielding him from deeper and more thorough investigations. Why has he not been investigated and prosecuted for possibly violating his oath of office multiple times? It is impossible for me to believe he isn't party to much of the corruption in the tRump administration. At the very least, how can he not be a key witness in Jack Smith's prosecution of tRump?

Barr was the Attorney General of the Department of Justice at this critical time in history, and I believe history will record his part in denigrating the rule of law and undermining the Constitution. Unless there are some things going on we are not aware of, Garland's turning a blind eye to Barr's tenure is a remarkable and inexcusable mistake.

Why haven't the Democrats held hearings to investigate Barr's role in the tRump administration? Once they gained power, why didn't they thoroughly investigate (hearing after hearing) Special Prosecutor Mueller's report on "The Investigation Into Russian Interference In The 2016 Presidential Election?" Barr, tRump and the Republican Party have successfully and incorrectly twisted the finding in the report to debunk Russia's part in determining the outcome of the 2016 election. Arguably tRump stole the election from Hillary Clinton. At the very least, you would think Democrats would want everyone to know this.

And, as we all know, if the situation was reversed, Republicans would have ruthlessly investigated a Democratic Attorney General, a Democratic appointed Special Prosecutor, and any ensuing report that exposed a Democratic presidential candidate. It is frustrating and stressful for me to watch the Democrats seemingly refuse to do everything in their power to restore the integrity of vital institutions, including Congress and the Department of Justice.

You are so right. After the damage is done and supporters and enablers woke up, now they share expert advice.

When it's quiet in the early hours and I can't sleep, I hear the pounding of goose stepping troops, the sedans pulling up to the house of a professor or writer and trench coated men dragging off the hapless owner while neighbors cower behind closed curtains denying what their eyes see. I see a demented little man shrieking his hatred of Jews, Gypsies, gay people, the handicapped, teachers, and anyone daring to question him. but the most frightening of all are those "good people" closing their eyes and mouths to what they see and know is happening. By saying and doing nothing we are complicit and our silence will not save us.

There is a wave building but it needs to be bigger. Kelly and the other “converts to democracy” need to get on the Fox, the Newsmax and the R extreme podcasts and tell the story. Answer the questions. Make them open their eyes to this guy a little bit more each time. Then there will be the Alec Guinness “Bridge over the river Quai” moment, “Oh, God, what have I done”.

I have an idea. We have, on this commentary, been bemoaning that people in government who saw what was going on did not speak up. I’m tired of them being scared. We are all scared to death. I wonder if we start a writing campaign to all those in power who should have been and should be speaking loud and clear about what trump is, what he has done, what he is planning to do, if some of those people would hear us and realize they were/are the first line of truth and must speak. How could we make that happen? Would Steve know how to get us started?

Expand full comment

How dare you, sir. That’s how I feel about John Kelly, as well. Thank you for countering the public fawning that has accompanied his coming out of Trump criticism. Too little, too late? Likely, but if he follows your advice and tells the truth even more deeply, the truth that hid behind closed doors, maybe not.

Not to mention that if he installs the cesspool that is Jim Jordan in the Speakership, let us not forget the ascendancy order to the presidency and what that positioning might suggest wrt the perpetual coup.

This hands-off approach by Democrats in the House is puzzling. Once again, they are relying on the media to talk about Jordan's and Scalise's tarnished reputations. Democrats should be blasting memes that impugn the character, behavior and beliefs of these men. Both are rabid racists, conspiracy theorists and divisive agitators. They represent a tiny minority of the American electorate. They are emblematic of a kakistocracy.

It is beyond belief to me. I don’t believe Kelley is honorable, that he would knuckle under to Trump disqualifies him no matter his past. Listening to Trump scare the crap out of me. The gop that fell under the spell of our past president. All need to be held accountable for there foul deeds unless they are we are going down as a country
