Joe Biden will not be the last American president to speak at Pointe du Hoc, where the 2nd Ranger battalion under the command of Lieutenant Colonel James Earl Rudder scaled the Normandy cliffs to capture the high promontory that jutted out into the Atlantic between Utah and Omaha beaches.
Thank you for posting this here Steve! It brought me to tears serval times after reading the words and hearing other people praise this speech . He deserves our respect and gratitude and our votes in November!
Anthony, While I relate to your critique of the media, I also would note, because Biden has not taken full advantage of the country’s most powerful megaphone—the bully pulpit—the narrative created by MSM is amplified. To a great extent, I blame his close advisors, who believe, in my view wrongly, that the risks of less-than-artful impromptu commentary outweigh its possible benefits. To the contrary, I know I speak for many when I express my dismay every time Biden reads from a prepared text then leaves the stage without responding to any questions from the Press.
Wow that is a powerful message - both timeless and timely! God help us as the last of those beyond-brave souls who, as the President says, didn’t know they were changing history, but DID change history, passes from among us! REMEMBER!!!
The "age issue" has to be addressed head-on. This wishy-washy response is counter-productive. Biden needs to be out on the campaign trail every day, actively engaged, extemporaneously talking and answering questions on the fly. Nothing short of this will help. He is old. We cannot claim he is not. So he has to demonstrate his competence each and every day. It's a no-brainer.
All of this means nothing to MAGA people, incredibly sad and disgusting. Pointe Du Hoc is a trip all Americans should take and should be a required condition of parole to all MAGA felons as only Mar-A-Lago matters to these knaves.
I was thinking this very speech, this video, could be a sort of litmus test. If you can’t watch the moral titans of Point Du Hoc be honored before the world by an American President because you so despise “Sleepy Joe”, you’ve surrendered all claims to patriotism. You’re sold out to a treasonous cult.
Relistened to President Clinton's remarks at Pointe du Hoc on the 50th anniversary of D-Day. Such a different outlook five years after the end of the Cold War. Who would have believed then this could be us now? My parents were first generation Americans. I miss them greatly, but I'm thankful they don't have to see what Trump has wrought.
enoomai, While, on one level, I relate to your gratitude that your parents didn’t have to witness the moral decay that threatens to engulf and destroy all of us, I also think of our children and grandchildren, for whom what we do now will help determine whether there is a continuation of the United States of America or not.
Steve thanks for posting the link to President Biden’s speech. I learn a lot from you. I can’t say this about the mainstream media. They’re suppose to educate and inform the American people. I checked a major newspaper’s website to see how they covered President Biden’s speech. It was about the politics of his speech. How disappointing. This could have been a great opportunity to educate the American people esp. the younger generations about what happened on those Normandy beaches and what could have happened if they failed (perhaps a local Gestapo station in every city and town in America). It also could have been a good opportunity to drive home the point that Freedom isn’t free.
President Biden finally can be seen fully in beautiful light with poignant poetry, courage, and decency. All the quality Americans should ask and deserve on the world stage. Eloquence, dignity and presidential confidence all at once.
Great John Phillips Sousa and other band favorites to listen to early on, but you could skip to about 17:50 in the current version of the video if you’d like to begin with the appearance of the President.
Re-posting from deep in a sub-thread of these comments. I won’t try to summarize what brought it about…
“I’ll tell you a secret…
Our Constitution IS the resistance. The core meaningful forces in public policy for the working class are 1) human nature, and 2) a constitution’s ability to withstand the power-hungry and greedy, allowing the populace to see that their needs are addressed.
The rest - especially what is ultimately voiced by strongmen (authoritarians) and anarchists (fascists) - must be, I think you are saying as well, handled by the public with something known as critical thinking.
When the answer is: “Trash our constitution”, beware. The sound and fury is, in the words of my eloquent father-in-law, Bullshit.”
I think that Frank guy wrote ONE post (which was one sentence) that was interesting to me "...my family would be the working class that you elite left locked in the lower hold while the boat sank." I think this is a pretty good articulation the MAGA emotional position (the rest of what he wrote was sophistry built on this point). For example, a friend of mine donated and worked phone banks for Bernie in 2016. And then he voted for Trump. I don't think people with this anger are allocating blame fairly or even accurately, and their solution is downright catastrophic for the U.S. and the world, but the sentiment is the sentiment.
I just watched the “Comey Rule” on Netflix based on a true story ; and it scared the shit out of me with what the crazed Nazi felon did before and during the 2016 election. And no doubt it will be worse for the FBI and Dems if he wins again. We’ve got to get people to understand and believe what he’s saying loud and clear. VOTE BLUE! We do t have much time💙💙💙💙💙
Taken together, my children’s grandparents worked 7 jobs to support my wife and my families. My wife’s great uncle was gassed multiple times in WWI as part of the Rainbow Division, and my family sent 8 men to WWII, one a marine in the Pacific who helped capture a Japanese general. I believe in democracy, honoring those who served and now serve, and support those who when elected, honor their oaths to the constitution and to the well being of their constituents — all of their constituents, not just the conformant, wealthy and privileged. You were saying, sir?
And I wish it for you as well, Frank. So many narratives appropriated by the enemies of democracy, we find ourselves knives out pretty quickly. Eyes on the prize, buddy!
There are powerful forces influencing the knives out. My criticism is generally against those forces with attempts to notify and educate those unaware that they are being manipulated by those forces.
Well amazing we have something in common. I came to the US as a three year old on refugee ship. Parents were Holocaust survivors. Difference is I got an education. You Frank got to be a self described social misfit.
No doubt. Twisting themselves into pretzels to convince the public that protecting vulnerable populations is somehow ruining the country. Cf. Lucian Truscott’s post today, Part II of the origins of the “should have known better” Trump lawyer Chesebro.
Thank you for posting this here Steve! It brought me to tears serval times after reading the words and hearing other people praise this speech . He deserves our respect and gratitude and our votes in November!
Wish Biden could get more positive coverage from media outlets. They tend to stress what they think he can’t do rather than what he’s doing!

Thank you for writing, Audree. A moment ago, I posted a similar response to another commenter’s post.

Precisely

And he will get my vote. And all who I can convince that this is the kind of person we need at the top- leading us and the world in freedom.
Not the trash Criminal presented by those who don’t deserve to wipe the feet of this countryman we’re lucky to have as President.
Thank you Steve.

It was most definitely noteworthy. Thx.

Honors the soldiers. Lauds democratic ideals. Respectful to our allies. Hmmm, definitely Reagan-like.
The analogy for any current articles promoting Joe Biden is analogous to those that clung to the Titanic in its last minutes above the surface.
And you would be the guy who pushed a women or child out of the lifeboat so you could save yourself. It's the MAGA creed.
That is hilarious given that my family would be the working class that you elite left locked in the lower hold while the boat sank.
Great. What does that have to do with Biden sinking and you still clinging to him?
I hope I never grow out of patriotism to America’s founding values, or a
willingness to take a stand. Cynicism is easy, but can be deadly, and democracy-crushing.
I share this hope for you.
And I wish it for you as well, Frank. So many narratives appropriated by the enemies of democracy, we find ourselves knives out pretty quickly. Eyes on the prize, buddy!

Frank, YOU are part of the problem.
Every positive and full-throated speech or action by Biden is followed by your dismissive attitude toward a "sinking candidate".
Who the F do you think would be the candidate should Biden step aside?
Diminishing Biden is promoting ill will against Biden and stumping up tRump as the gop are running the Felon.
The Media and punditry are working hard to deflate the good and robust efforts that POTUS Biden has achieved. STOP IT.
Comparing Biden's stirring words to Trump's comments that victims are losers ought to register even to little kids. Even to Frank Lee.
Grow up boys.
LOL yea, I did get lured in, Patricia!
