Well said. It's very difficult, however, to wrest people from a cult once they've drunk the Kool-Aid. With tfg, there's a lot of Kool-Aid in the false promises and premises of a novus ordo seclorum as imagined, promised, and put in place by that overstuffed, fraudulent piece of slime.

Your message is bone chilling and spot on, Steve. But here, you are preaching to the choir. You are so eloquent and honest. Your voice needs to be amplified beyond these forums and our access. Please OpEd the NYT, WaPo and the WSJ. Please go back on some of the networks, once in a while, to put your wisdom to a broader audience, once again. This man is terrifying and none, absolutely NONE, of the media covers him as such.

Germany in the 1930s, there is no other comparison. The problem is most people alive today have little to ZERO understanding of history.

My father died while in at home hospice, 26 February 2020, just hours after the POS45 stood at a lectern and said, "Of the 15 people — the “original 15,” as I call them — 8 of them have returned to their homes, to stay in their homes until fully recovered. One is in the hospital and five have fully recovered. And one is, we think, in pretty good shape and it’s in between hospital and going home.So we have a total of — but we have a total of 15 people, and they’re in a process of recovering, with some already having fully recovered." I watched from my father's silent bedside. Just days before, my father, who lived through WWll, served in the Korean War, and whose father was a First WW veteran, said to me, "This man is a Mussolini. Make no mistake about it." How right he was, my wise father.

I love the beach, the water and dogs. Seeing them all here help to balance out my fear for the future. Thank you for including them.

My father passed in December 2020 at age 93. He was also a Korean War veteran. He voted in November 2020 for the last time for Joe Biden. He would watch Trump on tv before the election and say what a disgrace Trump was to our country. My dad was a quiet, solemn man but he couldn’t tolerate Trump.

Blessings to you, Marsha. Thank you for your kindness and generous words. I miss my father very much. I will read the book you mention. I am sorry for your tremendous losses. My husband and I are primary caregivers for my mom, who just had her 93rd birthday. She is, fortunately, well and still lives on her own (doesn't drive!).

As an aside, her grandfather, my great-grandpa, fought for the Union at Gettysburg, a young lad of 15 at the time. He loved this country so much he lied about his age to enlist. It is on the shoulders of these men that I sit, that my children were raised to believe in more than themselves, to give more than they take, to leave behind that which is made better because they arrived, whenever possible in this life.

I agree, we are in deep peril. I am 66 years old, with daughters 26 and 33. I fear greatly for their future. Never in my worst nightmare did I imagine I would live to see anything or anyone remotely like this. My father was right; there are too few people alive today who remember the horrors, or learned enough in school to understand the history that may be, devastatingly, repeating itself. The likes of Trump, DeSantis, and the complicit MAGA aficionados are focused on burning the democracy down. He would be horrified. I am horrified every day.

I am grateful for voices like Steve's, and the forum and ability he offers for us to connect with like minded people, share kindness, humanity and celebrate connection we can make with people like you. Be well. And thank you again.

Steve, sadly, you are preaching to the converted here.. we Substack readers self sort.

Hannah Arendt is buried at Bard College. And campuses are silent.

What will it take? Fascism is so seductive. The USA is threatened.

Trump may rise from his flames.

Jack Smith could not be more effective, but our nation of white, red faced, beer belly dysfunctional illiterates will not read it. They are ignorant and scared. Jews won’t replace them. They will go to heaven fat, dumb and unhappy.

Mussolini and Hitler were elected. At their end, each was eliminated, suicide and murder took them, but 83 million were eliminated first.

Viktor Orban’s was elected. Putin was elected. India and Egypt are cooked and cooking. Some 47 nations are leaning, sliding, dictatorship, grifting and lying, Orwellian politics is spreading, and FOX News is not alone. CNN is a global mess. MSNBC is the best... clearly.

Edward R. Murrow is no more.

Steve, are you unique? No colleagues to stand with you? No network connection for you?

Scotus is a stench.

Justice Jackson, Ketanji Brown Jackson, is unique.

The body politic is numbed.

FYI -Steve has 111k subscribers on his youtube 'The Warning' videos, and 7.1k 'likes' already on today's video. He's gaining viewership almost exponentially. Steve can reach a number of MAGA followers and educate and wield the attention of millions of others. Clips of his videos are likely to get into the social-media algorithms and go viral. Others will join him -the chances are likely. So, he isn't just 'preaching to the choir'. I sure agree with everything else you've said.

Steve, you’ve earned the respect of your readership. It’s growing. Socratic dialogue might be your medium. Aristotelian linear logic comes from easily from you. You call it as it is. You’ve erred and confessed, you have few if any secrets or obvious doubts, not pretentious intentions.

You teach. You listen. You share and lead by doing each when you have an audience and opportunity.

In the White House or the Senate you would have both. In good times I might not ask. Today, I ask.

Would politics interest you? You’re 52. You’re young. Are you healthy? Feel like being exhausted daily and enduring the incoming?

If yes, declare and ask. A brain trust to start. Next, a writing to set the tone, the course, your fears and hopes. Money raising last, to follow the steps that follow conviction expressed.

Sleep on it. Sleep well. I do not. I might if I thought you and your team had formed and were sweating the detail.

Nothing worth doing is easy. Don’t look up, wrote the playwright. Don’t look up. But do.

I will offer. Your voice rings in the night air. Your intelligence and intensity light up the night.

Your energy and voice might be just perfect. Start with a conversation with Joe knows us. Those three delivered South Carolina.

He’s well balanced, now. He knows the fox trot.

And FOX is trotting.

Please run.

Best,

Sandy

tfg reminds me of General Francisco Franco in Spain and reminds me even more of the depredations and merciless use of the judiciary and the military by General Jorge Videla in Argentina. Mark my words: if tfg were elected again and executed on his wish to rule the Department of Justice by his own standards, we'd experience the same policy of corruption, elimination of opposition, sanctioned murder, and disappearances as Argentina in the 1970s. There is nothing that tfg will not resort to if he becomes president again. That goes for his minions in the House as well.

Refresh and renew on the beach with you loyal companions is part of the play. The fight against the threat to democracy and the rule of law is a tough one, you need all your focus and energy. Trump’s subservience to Putin brings the US into the danger zone of becoming a MAGA Republic under the new Russian empire. In Russia the elites eat caviar in Kremlin and send convicts and minority tribes to die for invading its neighbor, and everyone else is for himself. It is an epic battle of good vs evil. We have to be strong and be prepared to protect our democratic values in all fronts.

Newspaper titles have consequences. Many years ago, many, I stopped reading specific newspapers because of the titles. A radical move? Certainly, because, imbedded in the articles, the titles always found their justification. Maggie H. continues to be prima donna for setting the narrative surrounding Donald Trump. So it seems, no matter how excellent the correspondents are who co-author the news and their interpretation. The title should have read like this: Donald Trump, Criminal Defendant And Polling Highest For The 2024 GOP Presidential Candidacy, Rallies For A Regime Takeover In America.

Donald Trump is being treated with white gloves, from the Justice Department on down. He walks through public spaces like a monarch, with a security detail that must make Self-Elected President Putin very jealous (the latter can not trust his own, at the risk that they cough poisoned air at him or worse, so much worse, if they were to follow what he may have ordered upon others). No wonder Trump speaks of winning, even though all he has done is lose. He has hope. Americans must beware because it is this man AND HIS ENABLERS who brought doubt across America and the world about American elections. What happened in 2020, he had announced would happen, that the elections that he lost he would contest to the day, to no avail. But the rhetoric sticks in weak minds. He has an envious friend in the world, a War Criminal, a man who asserts his power by taking it and justifying it with False Polls. What polls do Americans trust? Whose intellect do Americans trust? Certainly, as you well say, it is President Joe Biden's. But Donald Trump lives his lies and wants his lies to be effective. To be aware of this is not to abandon trust in Americans and much less the perfected evolution of its democratic system. But elected representatives of Americans who still align with Trump's antidemocratic goals is not acceptable. The NYT would better serve the country by pursuing those who think like Donald Trump and allow these enablers to speak the words, to not interpret the words, to not serve as megaphones for confusion among its readers. To not disinform.

Thank you, Steve. We need clarity. And I loved seeing your dogs at the beach. One can actually smell the iodine-filled air. A happy weekend to you.

This is where democracy goes to die when and if the perpetrators of these attempts to undo our way of governance ever become competent or resist the attempt to shout out to the world what it is they are doing. Even though the press caught them, it’s a shame these journalists felt the need to smooth over this line of thought trying to give it legitimacy.

Yes, it is a disrespect of Americans who are interested in the politics of the country and want only one thing, the truth. It is a disrespect to Americans to make the real danger of a vengeful and amoral man consuming other like-minded men appear not as a crisis, as if though Americans who have invested interest and concern over the right future for the nation, the continuance of a Constitutional Republic, had no capacity to comprehend what is going on. It is the hubris of such people in the news profession who put down, denigrate and devalue the voices speaking from a journalistic and analytical place in freedom, women and men who confront daily the vengeful spirit of a criminal, a man that should not carry around the credentials of the Presidency of the nation he continues to undermine, hate, destroy and assume that he still has the power to overtake. Fox News continues to MAGAtize the moment, following the same track and with the same intentions as before Tucker Carlson, and certainly has not diminished its force to attack American democracy. It was predictable. The wealth it generates corrupts many corruptible women and men. But to read in other news sources and media, that should by now be respectful of the disbelief among its readers and audiences, is another matter. Lamentably, the NYT has a dark past in matters of autocratic rise and power, i.e. normalization. And so do media sites. Why did Trump ascend to the Presidency with such a media frenzy on his side? What was it about him that seduced and continues to seduce so many, to the point that even the language is changing in places that should never have happened? Propaganda dwells in sugar coating hard news to ease the emotions of lazy citizens. A good weekend to you, sir.

Thanks for your comment. This access journalism age (as our fearless leader SS calls it) has created this monster. Articles have become clickbait with gotcha headlines. The truth is hidden until a book is published. Billionaires own our media but seem not to pay very well. Even trusted journalists are working multiple jobs doing TV, podcasts, and Substack between churning out an article. The pressure to score a byline and therefore gain popularity must be tremendous. But integrity, trust and truth should rule the day at our “real” news institutions.
