I spent the better part of yesterday at the beach hanging out with Tucker, Teddy and Sophie. Because they love the water and sand so much, I then spent hours after that at the doggie bath. Before I knew it, I didn’t have time to get to writing an essay for today.
I did, however, read this story in yesterday’s The New York Times, about how Trump’s allies are laying out a “paradigm-shifting” legal rationale to erase the Department of Justice’s independence from the president. This is how authoritarian regimes rise all over the world, and we have to be careful to make sure that does not happen in the United States. Here are more of my thoughts on this:
The Warning with Steve Schmidt is sustained by paid subscribers, making it possible to keep the majority of my writing available for everyone. If you’re not already a paid subscriber, I hope you’ll consider becoming one.
I am exasperated that we continue to let him spew his vomit.
Wake up America. Too many of you have been scammed. Swallow your pride if you still follow trump. He is expert at media manipulation. Open your eyes join us who believe in our constitution and Democracy. God bless America.
Your message is bone chilling and spot on, Steve. But here, you are preaching to the choir. You are so eloquent and honest. Your voice needs to be amplified beyond these forums and our access. Please OpEd the NYT, WaPo and the WSJ. Please go back on some of the networks, once in a while, to put your wisdom to a broader audience, once again. This man is terrifying and none, absolutely NONE, of the media covers him as such.
Germany in the 1930s, there is no other comparison. The problem is most people alive today have little to ZERO understanding of history.
My father died while in at home hospice, 26 February 2020, just hours after the POS45 stood at a lectern and said, "Of the 15 people — the “original 15,” as I call them — 8 of them have returned to their homes, to stay in their homes until fully recovered. One is in the hospital and five have fully recovered. And one is, we think, in pretty good shape and it’s in between hospital and going home.So we have a total of — but we have a total of 15 people, and they’re in a process of recovering, with some already having fully recovered." I watched from my father's silent bedside. Just days before, my father, who lived through WWll, served in the Korean War, and whose father was a First WW veteran, said to me, "This man is a Mussolini. Make no mistake about it." How right he was, my wise father.
I love the beach, the water and dogs. Seeing them all here help to balance out my fear for the future. Thank you for including them.
