Let’s see.

On one side we have decent Americans who project normalcy and competence.

On the other side we have Nazi’s, Puppy Killers, and Lickspittles like Ted Cruz.

It’s a very close election.

In large measure the race is close because other swarmy GOP politicians are still on their bellies crawling toward Trump, fearful and hoping for the blessing of this evil man; they reject country, the Constitution, law and order, common decency and morality in pursuit of personal ambition. Here is a good example of one such pathetic human being, the dishonorable Sen. Lindsey Graham:

"Sen. Lindsey Graham told NBC News’ 'Meet the Press' on Sunday that North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson 'has an obligation to defend himself' following reports last week that Robinson made lewd posts on a pornographic website over a decade ago.

'The charges are beyond unnerving. If they’re true, he’s unfit to serve for office,' Graham said. 'If they’re not true, he has the best lawsuit in the history of the country for libel.'

'If I were him, I would hire me the best lawyer I could find. I’d sue the hell out of CNN,' Graham added, also saying that Robinson 'has an obligation to defend himself' because 'this is hanging over his campaign.'

Graham goes on to say that Trump and other Republicans 'should not be held responsible' for Robinson’s words." https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/lindsey-graham-mark-robinson-must-defend-himself-north-carolina-rcna172133

Graham, Trump and other Republicans are quick to condemn all Democrats whenever one's bad behavior is reported. Has Graham even looked at the evidence, convincing beyond question, that this man did what is claimed? Is Graham aware of Robinson's outspoken misogyny (women should not be allowed to vote) and his admission that he is a "Black Nazi"? Shouldn't that disqualify him for any public office?

Once the knee is bent to evil, the capacity for debasement is infinite.

Interesting. Robinson should sue the hell out of CNN for reporting what he said online. But Trump should not be held accountable for what Robinson says. This is how they always work. "I never said it/did it. But if I did say it/do it, it's true or "perfect." If it's not true or wasn't perfect, it's not my fault. It's your fault or someone else's fault. And anyway, what about . . . ?

They are all despicable. THEY are RINOs - not the GOP of Rockefeller, Weickert, Javits - my era of GOP. How do they live with themselves or explain to kids or grands if they have?

Damn good question. They are not the Republican Party I grew up with either of Senator Richard Lugar who helped out at the local food banks. Sad sick and beyond my comprehension.

Definitely not the Republicans I knew, either. Such as Governor Tom Kean of New Jersey, a man I worked for. A good man and an exemplary public servant.

My gut tells me it will be, mainly because of the quirkiness of the swing states. I would love to be wrong.

JFK's words were prophetic, another reason to teach civics and history starting in 1st grade and every year through 12th. Education is key.

Expand full comment

Yes, yes and yes! That’s why the Dems must win, so that Project 2025’s intention of abolishing the Department of Education is firmly eradicated and banished from the American English language as well as the Spanish one.

It used to be that way. I’m the product ( for better or for worse) of the parochial school system of Chicago; 12 years. We were taught history of the US, civics of the state of Illinois as well as the city of Chicago, though not as extensively as US history. The nuns didn’t screw around, they tested us also. Times have surely changed.

Cruz has slipped a point behind Allred in the latest polls and therefore, has agreed to debate him on Tuesday, October 15, at 7 p.m. at WFAA in Dallas.

I agree with everything Steve wrote in his condemnation of Cruz and praise of Allred. I believe Allred will chew the cowardly Cruz up and spit him out, exposing him as the amoral lickspittle man he is.

I don't know. I'm hoping it will be broacast live on CNBC or PBS. I would love to watch it.

Cruz and Hawley are both extremist Christian fascist theocrats whose law degrees from Harvard and Yale, respectively, will taint those august educational institutions in perpetuity.

Best ever Ted Cruz insult, given by Al Franken, about serving with Cruz in the Senate.

“I like Ted Cruz more than most people do…and I HATE Ted Cruz!”

Wish Al Franken would come back! He should run for something? Or be appointed?

Very bright man and the incident was over rated completely! Truth never came out!

I may joke about Ted Cruz, but his race against Colin Allred is serious. Liz Cheney doesn’t give out her endorsement to anybody, so Allred must be running a good campaign. I’d hate to see Schumer and the. DNC or DSCC give too little to his campaign.

Oh, and never did I imagine my putting “Cheney” and “endorsement” was possible.

“Colin Allred is running a better race than Beto O’Rourke, and is winning the campaign against a man who wouldn’t defend his wife or father, but is the first to beat his belly for Trump no matter what. Texas doesn’t have a senator in Ted Cruz. It has a decrepit sycophant who runs when he should fight, and applauds what he should abhor.”

Steve, once again, you had me at hello. I’ve been giving to Allred’s campaign and will continue to do so. There is no debate when it comes to Cruz. Like with Trump, I’d vote for a head of lettuce before I ever voted for one of these MAGA morons, who should be relegated to a lifetime of hard labor on a CHAIN gang, preferably in Louisiana or Alabama; not Congress!

Ironically, I don’t think Cruz or Scott’s republican colleagues in Congress would even shed a tear with these two gone, other than the fact they’d lose the Senate; and still, it would be a close call for their republican colleagues…..:)

From what I have gleaned over the years, Cruz and Hawley are the two most disliked Senators. Their political views may not differ a lot from James Lankford, but eons difference in comportment. I do not have a problem with honest conservatives, I have a problem with MAGA.

Yes Schumer Better NOT do to Colin what he did to Tim Ryan—that’s how we got Vance. I was so ticked at the time I haven’t sent Schumer a $ since! Yes we’re watching … I have supported Senate candidates in TX, MT, NV, WI and of course in my new home state of AZ. And so many others in the House and weekly for Harris/Walz! I have to stop! SS doesn’t cut it.

Going to the panhandle of Texas the first week in October to hang out with my mostly trumper family. Wishing to connect with any never trumper in Delhart or Grouver to knock on a some doors.

Cruz is brainwashed by his orange Jesus. You’ld think they would know better in the Bible Belt!

Hope you have a safe trip Lois but I beg to differ that Cruz is brainwashed by anybody. He just says or does anything he can to stay in power. Even if that means kissing Trump's behind bc in my humble opinion I think he probably despises him. How can he NOT after Trump said all those awful things about his family?! Just my opinion. Cruz does what's best for Cruz. Just like Trump....Both need to go. I've been donating to Colin since he started running and I'm praying hard for a win!!! I always liked him in Congress too. 🙏🙏🙏 Hope your trip goes well and you don't fight too much. My Mom and I aren't speaking right now. I'll be so glad when this whole damn thing is over. Geez.

The lowliest bootlicker and slimy snake to pretend to be a Texan and patriot. His exit from politics cannot come soon enough for me, a native who has supported all his opponents through the years. Allred will win.

Ted Cruz and Rick Scott are potentially beatable in these deeply red states. Focus should go there as well to hold on to the Senate majority.

Allred is a smart, articulate, and very decent man! Any other state than Texas would be happy to have him as a candidate. However, this native Texan wants to win as a Texas Senator. Let’s hope Allred can pull this one together and win over a man who takes being a senator for granted. Cruz is a misfit and disgusting human who is no leader but just a follower, seeking bright lights! One of Trumpie’s little guys! Send him back to Cancun on a one-way ticket! Phony galore!

I live in Texas, so I really want to get rid of Ted Cruz. I hope Colin all red beats him. I’ve tried as many times as I could to vote against Cruz. Maybe this time will be the charm.

The republican party has become mean, cruel and dangerous because of players like Hawley and Cruz, but also the army of appeasers Steve writes about. We cannot undue the cruelty and detachment from truth overnight. But there is a path to democratic control of congress that can be a beginning. That will finally say to republicans, “Start over. Rebuild a conservative party that serves the people, that cares about what happens to them.

There are many states with everything on the line. Montanna has Sen. Tester, who is a man of integrity and has represented all of Montanna well, and who is in the fight of his political life because money is pouring in for attack ads against him. Gallego of Arizona is a man of integrity and courage, who might be faring better but is fighting the crazy, lying, power hungry Kari Lake who is bankrolled by massive amounts of out of state money from organizations that care only about power, not Arizonans or Americans.

Americans have the power to end this insanity. So many races within the margin of error are depending on people to step up and do whatever is within their power to do, to make a difference no matter how small.
