In addition to being a disingenuous fraud, he was both creepy and frightening. The only highlight I can recall is when that fly landed on his white head for what seemed like an eternity.

That fly on his hair helped me win a pumpkin-carving contest! That’s about the only credit I give to Pence!

I wish I could post a photo of that pumpkin! You’d all enjoy it, but Substack doesn’t provide for posting photos! Happy Halloween!

In horror films flies represent the coming of evil. For sure they are there when corpses are rotting. Definitely it was a sign from the universe that the GOP was dead as we knew it.

Oh geez Steve, this is a GREAT PIECE on Pence. Totally nailed it! I couldn't believe what a reprehensible humanoid Pence was. All that Christian piety was enough to make me puke.

Wasn't it, the holier than thou BS.

And there’s now a Speaker of the House of Representatives that’s EXACTLY like Pence. Holier than thou Bible toting liar, and GQP idiot!

Living in Indiana, most of us were well aware of the con called Mike Pence. He said he prayed before he decided to run and prayed before he quit. Maybe Pence did not hear correctly the first time. Funny comments today of Twitter and Threads about him. I am glad he is out and hope he will simply disappear.

Steve, I’m very disappointed in your being part of the Congressmen’s challenge to POTUS, very difficult to understand. With all the shots 46 has taken, that you would associative with this challenge..with every MAGA -Republican taking shots at 46, he certainly doesn’t deserve this. Very disappointing!!?

Expand full comment

I too am disappointed in Steve’s choice to challenge Biden with a third party candidate.

Expand full comment

Not a third party. What’s his name is challenging Biden for the democratic nomination. He has a snowball’s chance in bell of getting it, but he could make things worse for Biden/Harris in the general election. And he is funded by Harlan Crow. That is all I need to know.

You’ve got it mostly right. Crow and his pals are funding a third party- Bo Labels- effort. Steve Schmidt has nothing to do with that. What I’ve read is Steve is helping Congressman Phillips D-MN in the democratic primary because he’s convinced Biden won’t win against trump if things continue as they are. Instead of freaking out, and because I have tremendous respect for Me. Schmidt, I’m withholding comment or opinion on the wisdom of this move.

Steve, you did the right thing as explained by George Washington. People who believe Trump is still President should read his exact words and yours.

Mike Pence saw the writing on the wall and quit his pursuit of the presidency. At the same time, however, he saw himself in the new Speaker of the House, and probably feels represented by this right-wing, ultra-conservative, evangelical religious wing-nut. Good riddance Pence, and I hope we’ll be bidding farewell to Mike Johnson soon enough. They’re both disgraces, lack morals, and complete hypocrites.

I agree, Mike Pence was not a hero. He will be remembered for keeping his oath to protect the Constitution on January 6th but he did not have the courage to stand up to the election denying republican party. If he was a courageous man he would have helped stop the damage Trump and his insurrectionist followers were doing to the country. He failed his obligation as an American citizen to tell the truth to all not just behind closed doors and only after being subpoenaed. That is not courage, it is fear.

Expand full comment

Pence only did the right thing because he was advised by Republicans much smarter than he that it was his only choice. He didn’t have the moral compass or the smarts to uphold the constitution without outside help.

The man was as calculating, half-hearted and political as they come. He - and so many others of his spineless ilk - never had the guts to tell the emperor he had no clothes. We are all left with an emperor who is still clinging to his throne at all costs; costs to our democracy, costs to the integrity of our Constitution, costs to our civility, costs to our global leadership, and ultimately, costs to our last line of defense...the truth. Goodbye, Mr. Vice President, indeed.

Dana: Patience! Be careful what you wish for! I, too, am furious and livid with Steve, but I would say to him, patience and be careful. Maybe just a moment of poor judgment but do not cut off your nose. We all are nervous and not happy about the political world right now in this country. The election is a year away, and it may be a nerve racking one. The stakes are huge and serious. You and I want to be part of the solution and not take the blame. I am fearful that Steve has gone so far that he cannot turn around? VOTE Blue!

Steve, is the Report in the Daily Beast correct? Are you Phillips campaign manager? I think I would like a refund on my subscription, if that is the case, because you have a huge conflict of interest. Ugh.

Expand full comment

Sorry, but Steve did declare his conflict of interest by being open and writing a well-written essay yesterday. Perhaps, you haven’t read it yet and just jumping on the bandwagon of those who disagree with Steve’s essay.

Expand full comment

Would you point out where he says that explicitly? I don't see it in today's, yesterday's, or the Warning before that where he went on and on and on and on. I just missed it and I would love to know if he wrote the words... Campaign Manager. A long time ago when Steve started bashing Biden and refusing to identify his accomplishments....I explicitly said I thought he was looking for a job running someone, anyone's, campaign. I guess I guessed correctly. Steve is a Republican that loved them all except Trump ....he even helped bring us Samuel Alito and blamed the NYT for not being pro McCain....suddenly he has found the solution for the Democrat's problems? I think NOT. He found someone rich enough and egotistical enough to think he can do it better than Biden and willing to pay Steve the big bucks. I call BS. I also don't give a fig about his inside insights to this guy's campaign. It wasn't what I signed up for. I do not trust his objectivity now that he has planted his flag against the best, most successful president we have had since FDR and wants us all to understand and believe this guy is going to be the shiney new young Biden. After listening to him I thought he sounded like Hillary Clinton...."I'm doing this because I love my country" was soooooo Hillary 2008! I wondered if Steve was losing it. Carol Anne, I asked a simple question. Was the Daily Beast's reporting accurate? Because I missed that little detail. If you would kindly direct me...I'll give you my mea culpa. Also, I'm an independent thinker not known for jumping on any bandwagons.

I’ve no idea what you’re looking for. If you’re looking for Steve to say I’m in a conflict of interest, you’ll be waiting a long time. He has come out and published the article that so many are upset about and told us straight out what his plan was. It’s not as though he’s hiding it. Steve has also spoken multiple times of the great job Joe has done, but he also believes that it’s time for Joe to turn the page on his term in office and give way to someone else. I’ll grant you that it is late in the game, and I’ve also voiced my opinion about his choice for candidate to primary Biden. I’ve also written at length about why I think Biden should pass the torch. I’m in the minority, but I can still voice an opinion, even if I can’t vote in your elections. Steve certainly has a right to his opinion, and he’s voiced it many times. We may not like his pick but it’s his decision. If you feel betrayed, that’s your issue and you should deal with it the best way you see fit.

I wasn't asking you, I asked Steve. Because I do not believe as Campaign Manager he will be able to be critical of his boss any more than he did during McCain/Palin campaign. And there was plenty he could have told us . So essentially I'm paying for his latest McCain/TBD (just dressed up as a Democrat) advertisements. I think it is wrong for Steve to take this guys money and pretend that for the next year that he will be anything but biased. It is absurd to think otherwise. Also, Steve has yet to answer my question. Making my point.

Fly Bait finally saw what most of us have seen ever since he signed on with the Insipid Clown, he had no business in any elected office, and now he no longer has any future in American politics, he never really did actually, unless you want a mentally deficient evangelical nitwit to be in any way shape or form involved in your life, then his best purpose in life was to be a landing pad and rest stop for a large fly. You know how we can count on the sun rising in the east, well this day was as sure to come as the sun. The good thing about this is that he sucked up millions, I don't how many but I'm sure it was a few. that will never be able to be put to more nefarious uses. I would say good riddance but he's actually been long gone, I haven't paid the slightest bit of attention to him since his fly came in for a landing.

We all need to be reminded of the abject failure that Pence was as VP. He stood beside Trump as an unquestioning disciple to the “Christ-like” Trump, as perceived by Trump’s sycophantic followers, with nary a minor rebuke to demonstrate that Trump was going too far. In my view, they were both disasters. Thank you for saying goodbye on our behalf.
