Mike Pence has brought his political career to an end with his announcement that he will suspend his presidential campaign.
His service was profoundly cynical and self-interested from the beginning. His schtick was inauthentic, contrived and utterly lacking conviction. He was a hollow man with an appetite for the prerequisites of political power and the perks that come along with it. It is the core reason he went along with everything that he went along with — until the moment he didn’t.
A terrible malice was loosed on the country when Donald Trump raised his hand and asserted that the greatest nation in the history of the world wasn’t, and that division, malice and carnage were the American ethos.
Mike Pence, the man who said he was "a Christian, a conservative and a Republican, in that order," sat through it all. He had taken power, gotten the mansion, helicopter, Air Force 2 and the motorcade. It was nice for a while.
Mike Pence was no hero on January 7, 2021, but he did do his duty, which made him extraordinary in a sea of insurrection, madness and insanity.
It was a single moment that he has tried to make the moment that defined his service. It never will be.
The single issue that defined Mike Pence’s service was disloyalty — disloyalty towards decency, humanity and patriotism. He served a cruel cause with a cold heart. He well and truly tried to ride the tiger in pursuit of power — only to wind up inside.
Goodbye, Mr. Vice President. I hope that the photo albums were worth it. My generation will be cleaning up this disaster for the rest of our lives. Thank you for your service.
In addition to being a disingenuous fraud, he was both creepy and frightening. The only highlight I can recall is when that fly landed on his white head for what seemed like an eternity.
Oh geez Steve, this is a GREAT PIECE on Pence. Totally nailed it! I couldn't believe what a reprehensible humanoid Pence was. All that Christian piety was enough to make me puke.
