Steve -- you're absolutely correct that this is not a D vs. R issue. And the solution should have been straightforward as soon as the first drones were spotted over NJ:
1. Contact all of our allies and adversaries through official channels and learn if any of them will admit they've deployed the drones. If there's an admission, deal with it expeditiously without equivocation.
2. If no country admits to it, shoot down all the drones in a manner that's safe to Americans in the vicinity -- and examine the rubble for clues to their origin.
3. Schedule a nationally televised speech or press conference with the President or Sec-Def explaining the situation and how it was resolved to protect national security and safety.
The military has a high tech anti-drone program. Why isn't it being used in this case? This looks like another example of the Press failing to ask the Why questions.
It's absolutely disgraceful. These are automobile sized drones. You can't go pick them up at a Costco. What the hell is going on here? How difficult can it be to track them back to their starting position? They can track cars, they can track planes, wtf? Every day I become more and more disappointed with this country.
By pointing low energy, commercially available lasers at these drones, will disrupt their cameras and get some type of response as to whether they are government sanctioned or something else. But the lasers will definitely get a response from the drone.
