I'm an old guy. For over 30 years I've been telling people "Watch out for the White Christian Evangelicals". Now I see they have renamed themselves Christian Nationalists. So they went from pretending to be just bible reading protestants, to what they really are, power hungry racists. Took a long time to expose themselves, but now at least we can all see their true face. Christians? They don't have any idea what that really is. What they are pursuing is power. Power to change how you like your life, how your children will live theirs. Clearly no care for the "Separation of church and state". Even over 200 years ago our forefathers knew how dangerous the church could be and separated them from government.

Donated. We must get back to reality, the Separation of Church and State.

I am writing a 2nd post because the first one was already too long.

For those, who need to connect more dots: Christian nationalism is as old as America, and the fact that, despite its constant threat it has only become stronger, begs the question, why.

The Netflix documentary “The Family” and the most recent book by David Corn, “American Psychosis” are two outstanding pieces of work delineating the history of American christian nationalism that was wedded to the Republican Party since almost the beginning of time.

While I am better able to understand the historical connections, my most ardent question today is: why has nothing/ nobody been able to weaken and diminish then, despite their growing threat?

How come America has been able to mount crushing responses against external terrorist influences, but has been utterly paralyzed In The face of the growing internal menace?

I just read a book titled "Confronting Chistofascism" by Carolyn Baker - it has lots of ideas especially for people who grew up in Evangelicalism . Carolyn Baker mentions - and told me about - a series of videos (The Family Documentary) about Douglas Coe - associated with the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington DC - and their "secret" plan to infiltrate governments worldwide.

As I mentioned before, my Uncle was a faith-healer in Jeffersonville Indiana ... and even though he died in 1965, his family ( my cousins) are continuing the church. (btw. the church is international - Voice of God recordings - they listen to his taped sermons. Uncle Bill was in Alaska in the 1950's and 1960"s helping start Dominionism). I never was a member of the church - but spent my life introducing myself as "Linda Branham but I don't go to the church". I "know" how dangerous ... and narrow minded they are and they are convinced "They" are right!. Another person - John Collins - wrote a book titled : "Preacher Behind the White Hoods: A Critical Examination of William Branham and His Message". The evangelicals getting power is terrifying. If you do not believe as they do - then you are evil... and even listening to you is a sin to them. If they control the government. America will be a much different country than we now know.

I am a retired senior - and I am donating to Democratic candidates what I can - but I know what I am donating is not enough to make a difference. But I am also encouraging others to donate - and to understand the seriousness of our current situation. So many people do not understand.

In my " worst nightmares" I see a future of "The Inquisition like" behaviors. Couple this strong religious fervor with authoritarian narcissists like Trump - and it really is my worst nightmare!

Thank you Steve, for continuing to stand up for Democracy ... and against Christian Theocracy. For helping reach people to help them understand the extreme danger that we are facing.

Now I will have to read the book American Theocracy! LOL

Great trailer, can't wait to see the whole thing. While we may disagree on some issues I feel we have found common ground in the love of our country. Keep up the good work on this path you have chosen. We don't need christofascists anywhere near government.

I so appreciate your continuing efforts and insight, Steve. You are a staunch champion of critical thinking and most importantly, our democracy.

As usual, you are spot on here. Nothing good comes from corrupt radical religious influence and control of governments. Say goodbye to freedom of religion among so many other rights. Can you say Christian Crusades 2.0?

I have donated to the Democratic Party in the past and will again, however much I can afford. I just have one question. Will they continue to fund radical republican candidates? That is definitely NOT what I want my donation contributing to. I get what they are trying to do but MAN, I feel like it’s the worst strategy they could have chosen in this polarized climate. Feels like they’re pouring gas on a fire. If you’re not careful you’ll burn everything down around you. And if the democratic candidates lose, we all lose. I shutter at that thought and we’ll never really know if it was by our own hand.

Our Forefathers knew the dangers of a Theocracy. That was their basis for separation of church and state. For too long now but mostly since Ronald Reagan's administration those lines have been pushed to their breaking point. We now have several Supreme Court Justices that think and make judgements that further erode the line to where its boundary has been obliviated.

We as humans, think by evoking God's name it makes it righteous. However, the only thing it accomplishes is true destruction. Destruction of God given right to love who you choose and to live free as men and women. Theocracy as a ruling government have been the most suppressive form of government known to man. I believe in God and I know one thing from my upbringing that if you act as if you are God then you are not doing God's work. Our Founding Fathers had it right the only fair form of government is when God is left to the individual to worship on his own and not as a ruling ideology.

And Matt Goebbels Schlapp is one of Christian Nationalism’s greatest advocates. He is loathsome and dangerous.

If you want to see the evil of Christian nationalism (or simply RELIGIOUS nationalism), there's no better place than Hulu/MGM's "The Handmaid's Tale". Worth every penny of a Hulu subscription.

Thank you for your poignant article. The ironies of life never cease to amaze me. The people including my ancestors came to this land and established a society and democracy founded on religious persecution. Here we are like several hundred years later with the possibility of destroying this country based again on religion. How little history has actually taught us.

Religiously, I seriously pray every night these misguided citizens don’t succeed. I guess another irony of life!!

This clip is great. It's about time this has been exposed and talked about. My christianity has never been inline with any of this. It horrifies me. Thanks for participating in this doc Steve. I have shared widely.
