A worrisome interview. If both sides are ( this is the last of the Reagan Republicans) scared to death that Trump will win, then why is it not said out loud, the fear of him winning. Why do the democrats act like deer in the headlights? The main issues are simple: immigration , crime and inflation. What are you going to do about it?

Force Trump to state his solutions and not allow him to avoid answering.

The Lincoln project, Obama, and Hollywood stars need to not only prop up old Joe but tear down Trump. As the interviewee said, use clips of Trumps stupidity, the lies and his gaffes. Bring a tank to this gun fight!

It says a lot about our country when saving democracy is not a big issue to voters.

Biden’ s surrogates, tv pundits, journalists, op-Ed’s, and anyone else visible to trump should trigger him with words like fraud, loser, ignorant, bankrupt, smelly, etc, etc. this won’t change the magas, but maybe drive Donny to make more insane mistakes. He is the one who is always name calling, so it’s back to jr. high.

My thought is the President should take the former Ferdinand Magellan aka US Number One out of mothballs and tour as many states as possible. It worked for both President Roosevelt and President Truman and would likely do wonders for President Biden. The publicity and exposure would be unequaled. He has nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Yes even showing up in Atlanta today has been very exciting. He needs to show up everywhere that is needed.

I watched this entire youtube interview and I was as disgusted as I have ever been - with the whole thing. This young woman speaks as if it's all a reality show and she gets to be in it, hanging around power players. She speaks as if Trump and Biden are just two sides of the same coin, that "everyone knows he's comin' back"... and although young people were willing to vote for Biden at age 77 they're not at 81. And what -they'll jump right on the Trump bandwagon now because - what - he's a "young" 77? Why don't people simply see that a vote for the aged Biden is a vote for the Democratic party and their policies, which are good for the middle and working class, and damn good for the country (see: infrastructure). This entire "interview" was absolutely shameful.

Lastly, doesn’t it say a lot when all the dictators are pulling for you to win just so they can own him if he does?

This is the most demoralizing interview ever.

At least Biden seems to be listening to the input from the Warning, here https://www.youtube.com/live/bCT8icyEc0Y?si=uheEpynzgKjysPJ8. He is going after Trump with many punches. Watch till the end when he picks up the button that said, “regulate guns not women.” You may feel a little better if you see this. But unquestionably we cannot let up our efforts to fight for democracy until the finish line, the whole world is depending on it.

So depressing and demoralizing!

Of course, this interview was prior to SOTU, in which Biden actually performed well many of the suggestions Palmeri proposed, in the strong assertive manner she said was lacking. What would she say today?

Hope Biden will give campaigning a priority while making weighty national decisions at the same time. Just by saying that Trump has nothing better to do but Biden is too busy to go face to face with people all across the country will not suffice. He lights up the campaign when he comes out. It also gives him a chance to break out of his own bubble, he says. https://youtu.be/31xJtOHs5vM?si=or2SkS4Rnh3c34Z6

Great video -in less than 3 min you can see and hear who Biden truly is. He cares.

I have to say I felt a little better when I realized that. Biden is going to be energized by getting out this year campaigning with people in ways he couldn't in 2020.

I don’t agree that everybody thinks Trump is coming back. There are plenty of people who understand how dangerous he is and won’t vote for him. He will also bring his crooked minions, Steven Miller and General Flynn, more crazy people. And BTW, the polls are changing in Biden’s favor.

As to Mar-A-Lago, why would you not expect it to be tacky when it comes from a man who sits on a gold toilet.

Rumor has it that Trump ate Orban for dinner last night. I found that difficult to digest.

The election of 2024 should be a real eye-opener regarding how the American voters make their electoral choices. From saving democracy, through Gaza (or whatever the crisis du jour is that week,) to "he gets me" or "he fights for me," or whatever. With democracy, reproductive rights, gun reform, voting rights, LGBTQ+ rights, etc, on the line, I hope we don't lose this election because of something stupid.

I have to agree the first half of this was pretty scary, but while Biden (and all of us) face an unpredictable path this year, he's made it clear he will work his ass off for all of us, ALL of us. Joe understands the stakes, we do too, and more people who don't right now will start to. I know some people who are "seeing the crazy" now who didn't before.

I'm mixing metaphors a little here, but some of the "political horse race" professionals Tara spoke about may be sitting too close to the trees to imagine anything but the usual forest. Trump wouldn't be the same guy in a 2nd term, he already clearly isn't. It costs something to admit that authoritarianism has happened other places, and it could here too and affect your career along with other things you want to take for granted. Steve's probably already been through that in ways most of us have not.

This was unlike anything I've seen before, and well worth watching. My biggest takeaway at the moment is maybe our problem is less the character and competence of our candidates, and more whether our electorate understands what they're really seeing, and takes responsibility to do something about it. If our vision clears, the choice will be clear too.

Cool Steve! I haven't listened to your conversation yet, but I enjoyed Tara's guest stint on Bill Maher last night, along with Max Brooks and Robert DeNiro's delightful raging stream of consciousness rant against Trump. (Tell us what you really think, Bob).

I thought your conversation with Tara Palmeri was fascinating..And it gave me great insight and anxiety..Then I stumbled upon this, from a fellow Substacker..It only addresses a piece of the puzzle, but every little bit helps..Here is his complete piece from Salon:

Ah yes, the coastal and big city liberal societal elites of the Democrat tribe think Mar-a-Lago is tacky. They all talked about while munching their $1000 pre fixe dinner at the French Laundry.

It is not a surprise that the working class jumped ship from their old previously respectable party given this type of elitist rant.

Ah yes, I know you come here only as a trolling gleeful gadfly, but what makes you think any of the "societal elites" at Mar-a-lago think you're anything but a gullible slob? (In the unlikely event they thought about you at all). Get wise to yourself, Frank. You're being had.

I hang with you coastal and big city liberal elites at the French Laundry, the conservative elites at Mar-a-Lago, and my working class blue collar friends and family at the backyard BBQ. No problem at all for any of it. But is generally the first one that is the least appealing and makes me take two showers when I get home.

Okay, I don't live near the coast or a big city or use a French Laundry (whatever that is) but "the conservative elites at Mar-a-Lago" you hang with are not exactly soul mates of "working class blue collar friends and family at the backyard BBQ".

They have more in common as they tend to be from the producer class and not the looter and moocher class. Joe the Plumber fits in well enough because the conservative elites and working class tend to share a belief in self determination, independence and a meritocracy of demonstrated capability to produce. And they both think modern liberalism is a mental disorder.

Yea, wee little Frankie comes here full of himself and fancies himself as all things to all people and believes he's an expert on the human condition because he's "talked to people" or "lived near people" or "hung with people". Yet every time I call him on his BS, he goes on radio silence because he knows what he's actually full of. Hoping he has a cogent thought is like hoping his clearly mentally declining god king he undyingly supports could actually complete a sentence.

Still waiting for an answer Frankie. If TFG was innocent, why not request a speedy trial and prove his innocence and remove all doubt? Doing so would significantly improve his chances of being re-elected. You know, from the guy who said, "Only guilty people take the 5th." So why hide?

Keep giving him money to help pay his astronomical legal fees and judgments. 91 pending felonies...and it looks like if E Jean Carroll wants, he just opened the door by defaming her again Friday night. What an idiot, and worse, a threat to our democracy.
