The problem with people like Elise Stefanik is they are amoral and rudderless. Those who are so self-absorbed as she is are people who offer no real, palpable value to society. They are selfish opportunists who do far greater harm than they do any greater good. Trump may be insulting to women. Stefanik is an insult to the general public and society as a whole.

As is Trump!!! Thank you Keltik.

As a native New Yorker I’m sorry we’ve foisted Stefanik and T💩p on the nation. Nobody deserves such filth.

Stefanik is worrisome?! Really?! WTF?! She is an insurrectionist and a traitor to this country. She should be tried and sentenced to the death penalty. It’s time for all good people who support democracy in this country to stop being mealy mouthed. Tell it like it is. Stefanie and her ilk are traitors to this country and richly deserve the ultimate penalty

What you are suggesting is what The Former Guy and his minions want to do. The death penalty is unacceptable in a civilized society.

yet, here we are, bringing reason and logic to a gunfight, and the guys with the guns, are, unsurprisingly, winning

Fascist never win in the end. I will never accept the death penalty as ethical. The cycle of violence must be broken. I will never commit to a cycle of violence.

All those in Congress who supported the insurrection should have been removed from office and prosecuted for treason. No exceptions, with the orange traitor first in line.

She’s insulting our intelligence.

She’s the female Josh Hawley - without the plucked eyebrows and perfect hair.

The fact that people like Stefanik get any traction with voters is by turns fitting and sad. Such are the times in which we live, the debasement of ourselves by those around us.

The MAGA moron here in North Carolina — Mark Robinson — said when he was running for Lieutenant Governor that we were a better country when women could NOT vote. He won by 300,000 votes.

Yes, the debasement of ourselves by those around us.

The one thing I try to do to keep the MAGA losers out of my life is to practice Stoicism. A brief word: Separate your initial reaction from your final judgment. Refuse to walk down negative paths. Evaluate your thoughts to align them, as best you can, with wisdom. Vote blue and encourage others to do the same. Change the narrative ultimately.

Helen, there’s a very helpful guide to Stoicism by Matthew Van Natta. I have read the Stoics through the years. But lately I wanted to pursue it, much as people pursue mindfulness or yoga or meditation, etc. I must say, for the age we live in, Stoicism seems highly practical and beneficial.

Another example of the sick state that the Republican party has become in their absolute worship of Trump. They are in full FASCIST mode with NO regard for American Freedom, Democracy, Rule of Law, etc. They will do and say anything in their complete capitulation to their worship of Trump. They are as big a threat to America as Hitler and the Nazi were in WWII. If they try to take control of America they will ONLY support Trump and what he wants and NO American will be safe from their and his wrath. (And Americans WILL fight back by any means necessary and not let them take over.) They have and will completely turn their backs on America and Americans in their servitude to their dear leader. Trump is a CANCER that needs to be dealt with and driven from America in any and all forms. Republicans and Trump truly are a THREAT to American Freedom, Health, Wealth, and Safety. They need to be stomped out in every election everywhere in America. And the Trump cancer driven out................

This was excellent Steve and thanks for getting it out there. Elise Stefanik just spoke to the Knesset in Israel trashing Biden will speaking to them. What chutzpah! Yes, she's very dangerous!

Yes Stafanik is a disgusting turncoat she acts more and more like Marjorie Green.

That said I am upset with your constant put downs of the campus protesters. Very few students support Hamas. What Netanyahu is doing is genocide, he and his corrupt government want to eliminate the Palestinian population. The atrocities the Israeli soldiers are committing are unconscionable. Even my jewish friends hate what is going on, the war is putting a target on their backs and has increased anti semitism.

You should watch "Democracy now" where Jewish Israeli journalists are filming the callous abuse of innocent civilians. The latest atrocity is the destruction of food trucks into Gaza by Israeli so called settlers. You can see the video on "Democracy now". In NYC they are selling real estate from stolen Palestinian land on the west bank to rich American Jews. The "settlers" are burning down entire villages and chopping down olive groves with the help of the Israeli soldiers. The Palestinians are not the Nazis but they pay the price for what the Nazis did.

This is one of the few times both sides are wrong. Netanyahu and Hamas are both doing evil things to the Palestinian people.

Expand full comment

Many Palestinians are innocent people caught in a bad place. However many of them actively aid Hamas. How much of Jihad is Hamas and how much of it is part and parcel of Palestinian society is a tangled knot. However, I know of no Israelis who dance in the streets when Palestinians are injured or die. I can't say the same for Palestine.

The protests on campuses are a joke - many of the protesters are not even students. It's an excuse to riot. Many of the actual students lack history and context on Israel. You see this with groups like "Queers for Palestine" - who have no clue what would happen to them should they magically appear in Gaza. Israel is the size of NJ. The Arab world comprises 22 countries and 6 million miles. Why is it that every Arab border is closed to Palestinians? And where else in the world can you disagree with your government and not be imprisoned in the Middle East except for Israel?

Stop supporting terrorism. Your comment "rich New York Jews" is an old antisemitic trope. I am sure lots of your friends are Jews, right? No other country in the world would be required to live next to another country who actively plots their destruction except for Israel, with the world supporting Jihad and the terrorists.. It is beyond bizarre.

An ‘excuse to riot’? I don’t think so. These anti-war, pro-Palestinian civilian protestors are not risking their university educations just in order to riot. Use your noggin’!

Did you know in a recent survey of college students and their concerns, Gaza and the war in the Middle East didn't even rate in the top 10? AN EXCUSE TO RIOT. MANY OF THEM WERE NOT STUDENTS. Given their administrators lack luster response to" is genocide of the Jewish people going too far with free speech?" and their mealy mouthed" well, umm....maybe. It depends on the context...." Why not riot? They basically gave their students permission to do just that. Then you have the Columbia students demanding access to water & electricity & pizza delivery in their tents - arrogant, self entitled brats. How many actual students have been expelled? I know of only one - a Columbia student - black, male, gay, wearing lip gloss telling the world "Zionists have no right to live." Another jerk was thrown out of his Ole Miss fraternity for behaving like a racist jerk in front of a black student - he was not expelled.

76 years of oppression and 17 years of a blockade on Gaza have created an explosive situation. Netanyahu's government has known for 1 year that Hamas was planning a major attack and did nothing to prevent it.The majority of Palestinians in Gaza are under the age of 35 and unemployed. What happened to innocent Israelis on Oct. 7 was horrendous but Netanyahu's extreme right government has done a lot to provoke it. I f Netanyahu cared about the hostages he would not throw 200 bombs on them but use a more tactical war.

Expand full comment

You lack both history and context. Who is the one who attacks first - in 78 years? PALESTINE. Which country wants the total eradication of Israel and all Jews? PALESTINE. Which country cheers and dances in the streets when Israelis are killed? PALESTINIANS. The Arab world - all 6 million miles and 22 countries of it has failed Palestine. What so you think Palestine was before it was British occupied? Do you know how old Judaism is and how long Israel has been the Jewish homeland? 5000+ years. READ SOME HISTORY. Stop victimizing the victims.

Anyway, Stefanik may be doing us all a favor. By being such an over the top, phony, sycophantic, Trump butt jumper she is exemplifying all that is wrong with the Republican Party. (Or what is left of it). With luck, reasonable independent voters will see what is happening and respond accordingly.
