Kamala Harris stepped out in front of more than 75,000 Americans with the White House lit up behind her. She answered Donald Trump’s repugnant fascist rally with a call to arms for the American people to defend their freedom with their vote. She hit the mark.
The simplest way to evaluate which side is winning is to fairly evaluate who the race is primarily about because that person is losing. The campaign must be about Trump because the election must be about Trump. Change must mean liberation from the tyranny of Trump’s ubiquity, his chaos, his foulness, his arrogance, his insanity, his criminality and his national vandalism.
The moment for generational change has indeed arrived. Kamala Harris stands one week out as the change agent in a race that has become about a choice that is as perfectly clear as a choice has ever been in this country.
Kamala Harris stands in this election for the idea and proposition of America. She stands as the defender of our national motto “E Pluribus Unum.” She stands as the heir of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Franklin D. Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, Harry Truman and Ronald Reagan.
She stands for the US Constitution, tolerance, dissent, and the notion that disagreement is the source of our strength, and thus power. We are a free people with inalienable rights, who bow to no king, no tyrant, no despot and no Trump.
The world stands at a dangerous hour, and our country is caught in a malevolent swirl. The American people are disoriented and angry at the epic bullshittery that has faced them from morning to night. They have grown incredibly cynical, mistrustful of information and suspicious of authority. They have been well-seasoned and ripened for the flatteries of a demagogue like Trump, but in the end, Trump’s empty promises will lead to real catastrophe in America. Real danger is at hand. What hangs in the balance one week out is the American way of life.
What Kamala Harris reminded America about is the subject of this fourth warning: freedom is only ever one generation away from being extinguished in the United States. We must choose to renew and refresh our liberties with acts of faith, or we will lose them. A great test is at hand, and once again, the prospect of national suicide looms before the American people. Lincoln said:
We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory will swell when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature.
Thus, it is ever so.
Kamala Harris for president.
It is rather difficult to see which way this election will go. I would like to think Harris will win resoundingly, which I think is the only outcome that actually begins a welcome process of ending the depravity. Yes, it is depravity that we witness. If I have learned anything in the past ten years, I am out of step with many Americans.
It’s a great feeling to know that my blue ballot has been cast already in defense of this blatant attack on democracy. I am so ready for the hope and promise of a Harris/Walz presidency. We have needed this generational change for a long time now.
