Well, a clown car is fitting for a good number of his voters. The clown in my neighborhood, for instance, who put the US Flag upside down on Memorial Day and told us all it would stay upside down until Trump was elected. He finally took it down. Another clown boomer among too many to count.

How apropos the doofus neighborhood clown ignores how Trump fully disrespects our Military, our Veterans and our War Dead. The upside-down Old Glory is a distress signal. He should have left it in place. Soon, our country will be in greater distress than that old faux patriot boomer might imagine. I am an 80-year-old Veteran whose family has served our country's Military since The American Revolutionary War.

It is retirees in this neighborhood and this clown seemed to receive unwarranted support from the other clowns here, much to my annoyance and dismay.

Thank you for your family’s long military service. I’m grateful for the family members of mine who served in the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

There is a saying that may be most fitting at this stage in our country's history: "One won't know what they are missing until it is missing." My license plate frame reads: "I am a Veteran. My Oath never Dies". I am well-pleased to have served in USAF Intel when a very young Sergeant. 2 uncles WW2, U.S. Army, the older retiring at Lt. Colonel in '62, the year I joined USAF. Older brother, U.S. Navy, brother-in-law, U.S. Army. Just learned that my great-nephew will join the U.S. Marines when he graduates next year.

Outstanding. My dad was an USAF Officer. Three uncles in WW2 — 3rd Army, USS Cassin Young, and Seabees. My step-grandfather was in the 8th Army in the Pacific.

Having enjoyed a relatively successful 50-year career in the private business secctor, I conntinue to "lean on" my four-year USAF stint. On reflection, I would have made USAF a career.

When my dad left the Air Force, he went to work for an Air Force contractor and was involved with Air Force projects for the next 35 years. In some ways, he never left.

Ease up on the ageism. Trump made his greatest inroads with younger men.

Ya’ll here are good people. I was referring to my neighbors. I live in a retired community and cannot stand the retirees I live with. All they do is complain. I spent the fall wading every day through neighborhood Trump signs as thick as forest.

The ageism is destructive. Thank you.

Ageism in and of itself is destructive. Identifying people who live near you and accurately describing them is NOT ageism; it's stating details. Stop being hypersensitive - it doesn't help.

Being an asshole doesn’t help either. Rethink your position.

Trump’s old age largely explains his hereditary dementia but not his mental illness of malignant narcissistic psychopathy, the least treatable and most dangerous of all mental disorders and one that has plagued him for the preponderance of his miscreant life. This miskiet belongs in the darkened psychiatric wing of the Big House, not in The White House, soon to become America’s Shit House.

I wonder, if its possible you & your neighbors are witnessing a CULT FOLLOWER in the CULT OF TRUMP and not just an annoying neighbor? Think about CULT FOLLOWERS as mentally ill people who align with CULT LEADERS & who get indoctrinated & brainwashed - Ask how: back in the 70's Cult Leader "Reverend" Jim Jones got hundreds of parents to "Drink the Poisoned Kool-Aid" and kill their own children... ???? Trump is a CULT LEADER & anyone who voted in a PSYCHOPATH WILLING TO KILL-BY-PROXY his own Vice President is just as deadly & mentally insane as the CULT LEADER... This has been verified by many psychiatrists like Dr. Bandy Lee & other doctors of psychiatry willing to put their own careers on the line to save the country stating "Things are only going to get worse... when you give power to Psychopaths/Malignant Narcissists like Trump...

I thought Puppy Killer Noem would be hard to top as a Cabinet Appointment, but Matt Gaetz looks to be tops for now. Only Mark Robinson as Secretary of Education could top Gaetz.

Call it a Clown Freight Train just picking up speed.

I loved Jordan Klepper's take on Noem: "Kristi Noem for Secretary of Homeland Security? How is she going to protect the border when she can't even train her dog?"

I will say that Tulsi Gabbard as DNI may be the most concerning of all. I respect her military service, but I remember watching an interview with her where she actually tried to defend Putin and justify the invasion of Ukraine. This is not good and seriously bad.

Steve, I agree with your powerful presentation today. We are, in fact, becoming an idiocracy. Your description of Trump's appointees shows them to be the threat to our country that they are.Your call for resistance is important. However, I am not so sure it is a good idea to insist on calling the U.S.A. an exceptional nation, especially in light of the success of Trump and his Maga movement. All nations have a checkered past; we are no exception.

With the nomination of Matt Gaetz as AG we have reached new heights of idiocy. If the Republican Senate confirms this man, credibly involved in the trafficking of teenage girls, roundly despised by the majority of his colleagues, and with a perpetual shit-eating grin on his face, we will have officially entered something beyond the "Twilight Zone." This is beyond insanity and cowardly self-obsessed "men" like Graham, Cruz, and Rubio will live in shame for the rest of their lives. Women like Stefanik and Noem, need I mention. are just as bad. I wish I believed in a god that could help us. We don't seem able to save ourselves.

Pete Hegseth is evidence that Trump is going all MAGA fascism, against enemies from within. Hegseth will turn the guns inward for Trump and there is no more doubt that the military will be for protecting Trump from his challengers, not for protection of the Constitutions of the United States nor for fighting against the enemies of the democracy. The most poisonous clown show on earth!

And here is Stevens Moore who largely saw what Steve Schmidt had been talking about the Democrats’ ineffectual presidential campaign. He is commenting in respect to the American support for the Ukraine war. https://youtu.be/sVvpe9CRESk?si=7K2Pr0CNVjWA3LpW

Agreed with you completely, Steve. You seem to be assuming that there will be hearings. Indications, however, are that the Senate Republicans will allow Trump to make his cabinet appointments “recess.” Do you know something I don’t?

Expand full comment

Recess appointments have limitations, assuming anyone in Trump's admin will pay attention to the Constitution. Even if they go through confirmation hearings, there is absolutely nothing Ds can do to stop this from happening. Sure, ask the tough questions, but at the end of the day, every MAGA sycophantic acolyte Senator will approve. 53-47 will still be 53-47.

Should they decide to purge the military of their undesirables, they will reap the reward of mass officer resignations. Officers can resign their commission any time after they have met their initial commitment. As it stands now, all branches of the uniformed services are experiencing recruiting shortfalls. Seems the "Bro" generation doesn't find the military appealing. Perhaps they will find the "draft" more to their liking. Just one major conflict away.

While many of us are still coming to terms with our individual and collective levels of grief over the election results, I'll stay informed but cannot invest the emotional energy it will take and the resulting outrage of every idiotic thing that will happen on this path to authoritarianism and fascism. It's going to be awful, but elections have consequences. Unfortunately, there are many reasons for this defeat and the outrage would have been better served on 11/05/24. That doesn't mean I'm disengaging, but rather recognizing my limitations to losing my shit every time something unfucking believable happens, because that will be all day, every day. A 24/7/365 shitshow. My sanity means more to me.

I am going to try for JFK's adage: Don't get mad, get even.

My own plan for sanity involves: engage, then disengage. Engage, then disengage. IE: planning my garden for next year and seeing my grandchild gives my anger a chance to mellow before the next cycle of shit hits the fan.

Robert Weissman, the co-president of the watchdog group Public Citizen said it was “hard to imagine a worse and more unqualified candidate” than Gaetz.

“As a member of Congress, Gaetz has demonstrated contempt for the rule of law, truth and decency. He is singularly unqualified to lead an agency that enforces civil rights laws and environmental protection statutes. Under Gaetz, we’d have every reason to expect an America where corporate criminals walk free but immigrants and people of color are harassed or rounded up with minimal pretext,” he said in a statement.https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/nov/13/trump-matt-gaetz-attorney-general

Gaetz also has a history of making derogatory and offensive remarks towards women. “Why is it that the women with the least likelihood of getting pregnant are the ones most worried about having abortions? Nobody wants to impregnate you if you look like a thumb,” he said in 2022.

Sad, but Trump will not appoint people of real substance. Trump is the master show boater. He thrives on ass-kissers and fakes. As he takes his place as Emcee of America's greatest horror show, we will sit and watch not awestruck but dumbstruck. This "clown car cabinet" will be anything but funny or amusing. The terror is only beginning to unfold before our eyes. The Master of Ceremonies is darkness on steroids.
