I’m still reconciling myself to the fact that this is apparently a very close election. It does not say much for the country.
Neither the press nor our justice system nor our politics, all being corporate owned, have proven equal to the challenge posed by a second-rate, malevolent, deeply flawed huckster. The Heritage Foundation is compiling McCarthyesque lists of “subversives” in government. The Federalist Society has poisoned our judiciary with reactionary fascist enablers. Our political “leadership” - even our DOJ - responds with the occasional, tepid “they shouldn’t do that” before retreating to their customary wait-and-see posture. Even a courageous politician like Kamala Harris must choose her words cautiously lest she fall victim to a torrent of Supreme Court-approved dark money. And the corporate MSM reports it all as normal while holding the two presidential candidates to wildly different standards. As long as money remains speech and corporations remain people and presidents are chosen by the Electoral College our democracy will continue to teeter on the edge of collapse.
