Two top Republicans, US House intelligence committee chair Mike Turner and Foreign Affairs committee chair Michael McCaul, have said that Russian propaganda has “infected” their party. They said that their colleagues are repeating Kremlin messaging on the Capitol floor. I react to this news, and explain how these lies have gone unchecked, and why it is a threat to American democracy:
“Infected” implies Republicans are passive victims of a contagion. On the contrary, Republican are traitors who embraced Russian propaganda for self serving purposes, to preserve white supremacy and win elections… thus holding on to political power as a minority Party.
Rachel Maddow's book "Prequel" told the story about Republican congressmen who were "infected" by German Nazi propaganda in the 1930s and early 1940s and used their franking privileges to spread this propaganda throughout the United States. I think that the number of Republican congress people (women as well as men) who are "infected by Russian Putin propaganda" is greater than the number of congressional Nazi defenders in the 1930s and early 1940s.
It appears that members of Congress are not just Russian dupes but I would surmise that that have also received remunerations of some kind from the Russians in the way of campaign contributions, maybe off shore accounts, or “gifts”. We know how Qatar and Saudi Arabia did it, buying up whole floors of Trump’s hotel and then didn’t even use the rooms. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin as already been identified as a Russian asset. Mike Johnson, Comer Pyle and Jim Jordan use Russian touted Russian disinformation as “evidence “ to justify the real witch hunt (Biden’s impeachment).
If Trump wins we will simply be a Russian satellite.
The Trump cult ( the real republicans have either left the room or are in the process of doing so)use words like freedom, patriotism, the constitution and now the Bible to justify their actions.
