Bachelor Tim Scott has no intention of revealing anything meaningful or deep about himself, or answering any tough questions. I’ve been waiting for Senate’s only black Republican member to show any sign of backbone and so far, he’s revealed none. He represents the black population of South Carolina exactly the same way Lyndsey Graham does, vote by vote. You will never hear Scott criticize Trump, and that’s the real tell.

I have no idea what any Republican stands for anymore. People like Tim Scott remind me that either A) Tim Scott knows something about modern American conservatism that I am not privy to or B) I am a goddamn idiot. That any POC, LGBTQ, or frankly woman would be a member of that party is beyond me.

I agree with Steve that Scott will leave Desantis in the dust. I'm not sure how far Scott can climb in a racist party, though. As for DJT, he may very well be indicted and not be a viable candidate for 2024.

DJT likely used those classified documents for nefarious reasons -I hope they get him soon!

Steve -- this time, I think you are incorrect. We all witnessed the bigoted effort to destroy Obama (they’re turning the White House into the Black House). Those same Republicans cannot turn a 180 and support a black candidate, no matter his party affiliation or his conservative bona fides. I wish I was wrong.

Re Tim Scott surpassing Ron DeSantis in the polls: right now, my DOG could surpass Ron DeSantis in the polls — and deservedly so.

No, Tim Scott has an excellent chance — unless he decides to take on Woody Woodpecker; then he'll have problems!

Steve - when there are podcasts, are there also transcripts? I'm more frequently able to read rather than listen. More, I comprehend better when reading then listening. I think YouTube always has captioning. Among this community, is it known if one can access the entire transcript to print on youtube? Thanks.

I think, as much as I detest him,Trump will be the GOP nominee! Hopefully, he’ll lose the general election in 2024. There are too many who live in the MAGA Bubble for Scott or any other primary candidates to defeat Trump!

Tim Scott is proof there really is an Earth II that is in our orbit, directly across from us, and therefore always hidden from view by the sun. It's the Earth where the sky is green and the grass is blue.

Tim Scott is a useful idiot which is just about almost all black Republicans who remain in the Republican Party of today. They are one of the single most dangers to democracy today because they give racist a pass, so they can say….see we aren’t racist, Tim Scott is one of us…Byron Donald’s and the others, we must not underestimate Tim Scott and the Republican parties use of him. With his lies today and “reverse Willie Horton, and Welfare takers” the worse of every right wing trope. He must be taken down and exposed immediately! The powers that be need to keep their ears a little closer to the people on the ground. The everyday folk know a thing or two.🙋🏾‍♀️

There's a reason Trump sent that "Good luck!" message to Tim Scott after he announced, but - as expected - did not send one to DeSantis.

Trump *knows* Scott is not a threat to his campaign. I believe Trump *will* be the GOP nominee in 2024 - even if he's convicted of any number of the crimes he's committed.

Nice analysis - he’s lifting a lot from Obama.

Nobody is going to mistake Tim Scott for Barak Obama. Can Scott code-switch?

For me the phrase, Black Republican is a contradiction in terms. Sure, Lincoln was a Republican and Jackson a Democrat and if that were all, Tim Scott would be on solid ground. But the last 100 years has turned this around and Black people have found their home in the Democratic Party where they belong. The Republican Party has become a White Supremacy party. How are they going to lift Tim Scott onto their shoulders and sing a chorus of, “He’s My Guy”?

Black people have always been heroes to me, especially the women, but as a jazz fan since I was 8 I have cherished meeting or knowing Louis Armstrong, Oscar Peterson, Carmen McRae, Wynton Marsalis and others like Sydney Poitier and Jim Brown, all people I greatly admire. I believe that successful Blacks have had to do all the things to achieve success that white folks do but then have to do it on a 15 or 20 or 25 degree ramp. They never laid eyes on a level playing field except in a football game. So what you ask? The sensibilities of these people are Democratic not Republican as are mine. To side with Republicans is to turn your back on your people. Take Clarence Thomas for example. He is a disgrace to his race, voting for laws that make the plight of Blacks more severe. It is presumptuous of me, I know, to suggest that any successful Black person has to have the advancement of his race, his people, at heart because if he doesn’t who will? And that is anathema to Republicans.

I remember watching JFK make his famous civil rights speech, seeking fairness, where, referring to a Black man, he asked how much would you like to take on the color of his skin and stand in his place. Then Lyndon Johnson took Kennedy’s initiative and turned it into civil rights and voting rights. Democrats have supported Blacks, while Republicans have done so many things to hurt them , like stealing their votes at every turn, that I see Black Republicans as turncoats. Scott will never be allowed to carry the banner of Republicans into battle no matter how much they toy with the idea. He may feel that he can make change from within and more power to him, but, even though he represents an important southern state, I’m afraid that, at the national level, he is an ornament and very much on the wrong side.

There isn’t a chance in he** that MAGA Republicans would support Tim Scott even if Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis died tomorrow. He’s Black; they’re racists.

And why is Tim Scott a Republican? Hasn’t anyone told him that the Party of Lincoln is stone dead, at least since Nixon implemented his Southern Strategy and Strom Thurmond and Jesse Helms switched to the GOP?
