Christians are the oppressors in this country. Take a look at the oppressive and medieval policies toward women in Iowa, Arkansas, and Alabama — three states ruled by self-professed Christian female Governors. I’d add South Dakota to that mix, but I forgot Herr Commandment Noem is running the National death camps now.

And lest I forget, wasn’t it Christians who consigned six million Jews to death in Europe?

Expand full comment

I agree. Somehow Christians are becoming only Protestants in trump COUP.

Never forget, the millions of people killed by Charlemagne, Crusaders, Moors, Catholic vs. Anglican England, Tynsdale/Martin Luther followers, Hindu vs Moslem in India, Uyghurs/Muslims in China. The mammalian lust for power, influence, safety is sublimated, exercised in "religious, virtuous corrections, oppressions, executions." Until our primitive, brutal instincts are never again cloaked with religious piety, this hideous, farcical, ritual cleansing will continue among cults, clans, countries, the world. So sad.

Ironically, we don’t hear about the death toll for women being denied medical care for miscarriages anymore.

I bet this is the game plan; just don’t make hospitals report deaths for miscarriages: out of sight, out of mind. Just like the red states and even some blue states with COVID. This is how they slowly kill abortion!

Religious fundamentalism and militant nationalism have caused more pain for us and all other creatures than any other force in history.

“Christian nationalism is fueled by grievance and imaginary sleights that are the basis for demands and special privileges that have much less to do with faith than the maintenance of political power.”

Steve, all this is excellent, but useless. We know Christian Nationalism is just as bad as the Taliban; In fact, it’s worse! You need to stop with the history lessons, or cut them short and focus on the elephant in the room. This is a hair on fire moment, and no one in the media is talking about the true impact of these petty, vindictive, reckless and impulsive behavior by the Orange Bloviator, and his cabal of ruthless hatchet men, and tween incel tech bro’s!

What he is doing at the NIH, CDC, and FDA is going to have consequences that we cannot fathom. I personally know several people including family, who get research grants for cancer, and are seeing decades of their research burn up in flames.

Additionally, Trump’s cuts to the National Science Foundation will serve to destroy our future intellectual Property and patent protections. The NIH and National Science Foundation are the cornerstones of our advancement in science and technology. The breakthroughs have been a godsend to our nation, and the reason we are a superpower. Who do you think developed our Nuclear arsenal, the military? It’s our best university professors, using cutting-edge technology at the time, developed on university campuses, not the War Department.

Yet, Trump is taking a sledgehammer to everything. The dismantling of USAID will not only impact how the world views us, it makes us less safe; a national security threat to our health and food supply!

We need people to stand up now. All the institutional knowledge is being lost. Data sets that took decades to compile, have been erased from the databases permanently; not for any logical reason, but because it doesn’t conform to the American Taliban’s own obtuse ideology.

This is no different than the Taliban erasing the history of other civilizations and religions. That said, as sick as the Taliban is, they do t deny science. Only in America do scientific quacks exist. It won’t be long before all of us are subjected to Christian healthcare: which covers only thoughts and prayers.

Moreover, forcing websites to take down gender, sex and ethnicity information is ludicrous. It’s used to help treat different people and genders who suffer different side effects from drugs and treatments, will set this nation back scientifically for decades.

Yet, this isn’t considered an issue that our representatives in Congress feel is worth dying for? This is our future technological edge disappearing in plain sight! If this isn’t the “hill” worth dying for, what is? Our food supply will suffer. The cost to treat illnesses and diseases will rise exponentially.

Therefore we need leadership now, not history instructions.

Steve, your newsletter is awesome, but this is the five alarm fire from hell, and all we are doing is talking about distractions. People don’t care about democracy, they made that point in November. However, when the shit hits the fan, five dollars for a carton of eggs will be the least of our worries.! IMHO!

You are 100% correct in everything you say. And there is much more to be said. One action is not being taken, even by Steve, that I simply do not understand. Republican politicians are responsible for Trump‘s existence. They must become afraid for their future because of their support for Trump. They must be called out, individually, and by group. They are not. They walk the streets like innocent lambs. And they are black as pitch, guilty as the devil, ruinous to the country.

Sadly, there is no fear that can be instilled in them beyond their current and immediate fear of trump. Any repercussions that may or may not happen can and will be dealt with later. Maybe trump gives full pardons from any prosecution before he leaves office (if and when this happens). Difference between Biden doing that and trump would be that Biden did it for people actually not guilty of any crimes and trump has already proven his willingness to pardon actual criminals. We are already seeing the coming storm of what trump's, ahem, I obviously mean Bondi's (hahaha) vision of actual DoJ weaponization will look like.

I agree, there isn’t a lot he can do, but we need to continue to shine a light on the subject. He has contacts in the media, and he needs to drive the point home. This is serious stuff that affects us all. When we discover new variants of diseases and bacteria overseas, it gives us a head start on trig to find a cure or treatment before it becomes an epidemic. That said, people in this country have no critical reasoning. Skills.

MAGA can’t put two and two together; to understand the Butterfly Effect. When a butterfly flaps its wings in Tokyo, we get a hurricane in New York. This is real and illustrates a point. While we may not get a hurricane in New York, the truth is that small changes within a complex system, can lead to significantly different results over time. It is more of a metaphor to illustrate the concept; the key idea is that even tiny variations can have large consequences with enough time and interaction within a sensitive system. The same holds true for true for diseases and other illnesses.

Yes critical thinking skills ..they don't have any. I was thinking that if we can get the Congress back and the Senate..He has to be impeached and so does JD Vance. Vance is as much a part of this as Trump. We can't worry about the 77 million people who voted for him. If they storm the capital so be it..No matter what they do, we have to restore our democracy ..Yes I know the election is way off but we have to start doing something now. Agreed, but we need to start finding out who the 75 registered voters are, and didn’t show up to vote. We need to know why, and whether these people can be reached. Trump only got a third of the electorate, if you count the 75 million who didn’t show up.

Thats not a mandate, and it certainly doesn’t excuse his complete dismantling of the administrative state. Trump truly is the gift that keeps on giving; Xi and Putin must be in their version of heaven!…:)

But, coupmasters don't care first of all and they can never be called misogynistic or racist. The Gilded Age, Dickensian England, 100+ years ago, is the model the wealthy, powerful imagine is the best society for low taxes, low wages and enormous accumulation of wealth with very few. Workers are meant to be "used up," fired, left to fend for themselves until they die. Wealthy will not pay taxes for the poor, disables, sick in the world or in this country.

The wealthy have enough money to protect themselves, flee and never mix with the "unwashed." They feel their rightful place in society is at the top and everyone is below them expendible.

For all of the alleged intelligence of our species, we just can't learn the big lessons.

One biggy:

Religious dogma mixed with government is lethal.

The founders knew this and gave us the first amendment.

Now that these fanatics have all of our financial information I dare say there's not much they will not be able to impose on us.

A female friend told me the other day with dripping sarcasm,, "just celebrate the fact you're white and male."

What a Dark-Ages-tragedy that we're taking such huge steps backwards.

Well here's another lesson I've learned, "until we're all free, we are none of us free." (Emma Lazarus)

I guess a lot of us are going to have to suffer and die to ignore that lesson....... again!

Donald J TrumpMusk does not understand the First Amendment, he has never read the Constitution. He does not understand Christian principle, he has never read the bible. The lawsuits being filed cannot keep pace with his mighty sharpie. Where are the Democrats to counteract his dismantling of our government? Where are the lawyers and Federal Judges who still care for our way of life?

I am not very religious but I was respectful to those who honestly believe. However, when it comes to speaking in tongues and televangelist, I have no respect. They are frauds like Donald Trump. They are only in it for the buck and now since Trump has elevated them they are on a power trip. The lies being told about Christians under attack are just lies. It is this mendacity they are using to rewrite laws and concentrate power.

If I were a betting man, I would not bet on the Superbowl. I would bet on there being a National Religion declared, if this monstrosity is left unchecked. If you don't convert to their form of religion, you will become a second class citizen with less Rights. Even if you convert, you will find yourself having to follow their practices of religion as a show of support. You will be required to give a good portion of your earnings to these religious leaders. Don't expect them to practice charity except in instances that they favor and they do not favor you.

I’m not going to “like” what you say Patrick, because everything about it is distressing. This Christian Nationalism is utter bullshit, I was raised as a Catholic, educated by Jesuits who taught me how to think, not what to think. Anyone that wants to pray around the clock is welcome to do it, just don’t ask me to participate. Our founders in their wisdom totally separated church and state, because they had the hindsight of European history and all of the religious wars that took place over centuries, they wanted no part of that, thank God (😎). Now we have someone who would have trouble even qualifying as a moron in the presidency, history will judge him long after we are gone, as being the singularly most unfit human to have ever stepped into the White House and a lot of people have walked through those doors in one capacity or another. The maggots in all of their collective wisdom, and they would be hard pressed to fill a thimble with it, have given us a monster, the spawn of satan to drive this bus the people are riding in off a cliff, as you well know even if we don’t want to go along for the ride, we will be caught up in diseases, famines, and wars that we want no part of, but which will begin to fill in the void we are leaving behind. 🙏
