On September 11th 2001 a foreign enemy came from outside our shores and attacked..Now a domestic enemy is attacking from within..they must be stopped..That's how we honor the passengers and crew of United 93 every day..

Yes Sam ~ the tragic irony that only 2 decades after our own citizens defended their people and their Capitol Building our own citizens breached it. Both the heroes of Flight 93 and the heroes of 1/6/22 ~ the officer who faced an entire armed mob to lead them in the wrong direction, other woefully unprotected officers wounded or killed ~ should all be honored in the way Steve described. And the perpetrators be held accountable and hunted ( including the MAGA dictator who plays golf with the Saudis and whose son receives billions from them ) with as much fearless drive and determination as were Osama and his minions.

These heroes must be honored for their courageous sacrifice in protecting our Capital.

Agreed Diane, we see these heroes and the 1/6 perpetrators the same, sadly we are not the same country we were on 9/11/21..

The day after 9/11 one of the ER docs I worked with said “this country will never be the same”. I had heard that our disbelief at the attacks was due to our lack of imagination. Had the same shock and disbelief watching the events of 1/6 unfold. Then I remembered as I do today what that doc said.

That doc was right..A lack of imagination hitching a ride on a bumper crop of indifference or arrogance or both..can’t decide which..

Both works

You’re welcome Marsha, I appreciate that my remarks touched you, crushing this domestic threat is how we honor all who were lost that day..❤️

Brilliant, patriotic, and correct. The Americans on 93 do deserve that honor you speak of.

And perhaps we need to do more for those that protected the Capital on Jan. 6th. Valor and dignity...may we never forget.

Wholeheartedly agree! The fact that many from the GQP haven’t said anything to them is appalling. The more that is released about the carnage of that day, the more angry I become.

I'm ashamed to admit that I barely think of the brave souls of United 93 when September 11 rolls around each year. The sight of the twin towers crumbling has been burned into my consciousness overshadowing all other occurrences of that day. Your description of their sacrifices makes me both proud and ashamed that those heroes have been relegated to a minor event in my mind.

Thank you for reminding me of their bravery and selflessness. I won't forget them again.

I’ve never heard of “brevet” so thank you for bringing that into my consciousness. It’s a brilliant Idea to invoke brevet to posthumously honor the 9-11 warriors of United 93.

Name the seditious conspirators out loud! You are so correct Marsha. When will they be called out and punished for their bad behavior?

Expand full comment

The seditionists will be called out & their names will be forever known in the hall of shame. When? After we kick out the MAGA Republicans in November & again in 2024. By then AG Garland will have made it very clear that Trump must be prosecuted for his crimes against America.

For now, we vote!!!

Thank you, Steve. I have often thought of the intense courage and bravery of those amazing people on flight 93. I am so thankful that they saved our Capitol from harm, the symbol of our people's democracy. Bless you.

As a combat veteran who knows what it's like to engage an enemy and be willing to risk all in order to protect my fellow soldiers, I whole heartedly concur with your idea for honoring everyone on Flt. #93, our beloved Capitol did not lie in ruins on 12 Sept because of the brave Americans on board that flight. The two words "Never Forget" will go with me to my grave, forgetting is one thing I am incapable of doing and I am just fine with that. Evidently we have people in this nation who are confused about what those words mean, I pity them.

We were in central Pennsylvania, and visited the Flight 93 Memorial. It was very moving. It is worth the trip. They were true heroes.

Mine also. So much tragedy happened on 9/11. So many lives forever changed. Yet we have bad actors dishonoring all they fought and sacrificed for.

A random group of normal Americans organized and stormed a cockpit twenty-one years ago. They saved the Capitol from certain destruction. Audio recordings from cell phones document this. Heros all. Thanks, Steve, for putting this up.

Think of Flight 93 as a model of devotion to the good of the whole. And that it arose in the face of a

life or death challenge shows what's natural to us at our core. There are so many of us with good cores and we need a way to collect ourselves to become a force. We can build the new, but we have to put our minds to it. This is what we could turn our attention to.

As always, powerfully written. I totally agree, those brave people deserve higher recognition than what they’ve gotten to date. I immediately thought of Jan 6th traitors as I began reading g, and you brought us there: the patriotic sacrifices of one group of Americans to save our Capital, contrasted with the group of cowardly insurrectionists seeking to destroy our Capitol.

Thank you for a beautiful tribute to the passengers of Flight 93. They deserve your words of praise and so much more. I hope our leaders will recognize them for their bravery and sacrifice in the near future.

I thought the attacks on 9/11 would forever hold our citizens together in the fight against terrorists but I was wrong. The terrorists are now home grown and their attacks are welcomed and encouraged by a former President.

I do believe that most Americans would rise to the occasion if need be but the actions in Uvalde TX leave doubt in me.

Remembering 9/11

Then

We were preparing for Sam’s 4th birthday. We bought him his first bike.

There was no Ben, yet.

My wife was job hunting

I was still ascending the ladder

We were renovating our new 19th century brownstone.

We weren’t at war

Many were blissfully and arrogantly complacent.

Now

We are preparing for Sam’s 25th birthday. We are fixing his car.

Ben is in college

My wife is selling homes

I am building homes for the needy

We are renovating our 19th century farmhouse

We are at war with ourselves

Many are still arrogantly, but maybe not so blissfully, complacent.

I don’t forget ✌️❤️
