Hi Steve. Love your writings. You have a style and a push with a sustained historical context that I love. Keep it up!

Your clear calling out of corruption and lies, and thoughts about how to strategize against it, are most valuable right now?

I’m glad that I found where you are sharing your “spot on” insights on events. At 76 I’ve seen & heard a lot in my lifetime. But now I’ve never been so afraid of what is happening and what our children will be faced with. Not only is politics polarized but the collective abilty to seek truth, think deeply, discuss in meaningful ways, and reach valid conclusions is polarized. Reason has flown out the window. So thank you for continuing to share your excellent rhetoric and precise thinking.

Hi Steve, at some point can you talk about what can be done about states who are passing laws in order to rig the elections? How do we fight that?

Just subscribed as you are a voice of reason and sanity who calls out the Republicans on their devolution into a cult of personality. We need fighters like you Steve to continue to call out their shamelessness and lies which violate everything our founding fathers held dear. Keep up the great work Steve, thank you for all you do!

Hi Steve - I enjoy your daily essays as much as seeing you live on TV. Your depth of knowledge inside and out, along with your clear delivery of the facts give me a sense of peace. Honestly, I always feel better knowing there are people out there like you clearly stating when the hell is going on in this once proud country. Please keep it going for all of us. I've enjoyed the irony of where you've been this past month to our own travels ... our first outing from covid last year was the Gerald R. Ford Amp in Vail, CO for the Michael Front concert. He spoke to our souls in such an uplifting way, that we saw him again when he kicked off this years tour again at the Ford Amp. Such an uplifting musician. We just spent a weekend in Boston then the week of the 4th of July in Provincetown MA. I grew up in Alabama - so I had visited the Flora-Bama before, quite a contrast there!! Please keep sharing the fun stuff you do, along with the tough subjects you cover, too. HIGH 5!

Dear Steve, I'm older than you and an old time lefty. When I first heard you on MSNBC, I had to hold my breath as you spoke. Everything stops in this house whenever you ARE on TV. I speak English pretty well, in spite of being born and raised in NYC. But I know of few speakers of my native tongue who can articulate jackhammer-like truths, thought provoking analysis and brilliant delivery as you. Now that I can read AND listen to your incredible, passionate, researched assemblage of information dotted with the best, most accurate adjective for your points, I am so very grateful. Your opinions are masterfully developed and made so clear only a maga lemming wouldn't understand. I agree with others' comments about getting your writings out to the public. Loved the idea of a weekly column in the NY Times; maybe the LA Times; maybe the Wash Post. Maybe all 3. I'll leave the subject matter in your very capable hands. And thank you, most sincerely.

I could have checked all boxes of interests, your writings always fascinate. As I am terrified by what the radical GOP and the Supremes are doing to our way of life—indeed, to our place of respect in the world—I’d like to know how we can get better messaging ahead of the midterms. Obviously, Democrats need to up our game. I’ve read that most Americans don’t even realize Build Back Better is in the works (and what a crummy title BBB is). Pete Buttigieg is terrific, but cannot do messaging by himself.

I love the historical context for todays events because you remind me that it doesn’t have to be this way. And, as I have said before, I love the great heart you have for this country, that is so evident to me. There is nothing cynical about you…we need that.

Thank You for opening a forum and asking for our thoughts. It is so very important to get this right. Jonathan Swans article is as siren as to what we face. We must make the voting public aware of the republicans plans. It is the only way to defeat them. How will we do that? I am now motivated to get on the phone wires and alert all who will listen Via a call list. We need optics, commercials from the Lincon Project people and a forum where people can discuss how best to get the message out to the public. Will they listen? That is going to take some psychology. There are so many different reasons why people still believe in trump. Are these the folks we need to reach? Can they be reached? How about the people who don’t recognize what plan F is. Would making them aware of the plan be sufficient enough to make them care and vote in enough numbers to turn the tide in favor of saving our democracy? We need to start discussing how to accomplish our goals in a broader forum and figure out this dilemma soon.

Help us explain to 20-30 year olds why all of this truly matters and why it tangibly impacts them.

The term American Experiment doesn’t resonate. They have simply turned off the news and are concerned with their careers and lifestyles believing that it will all somehow work out. After all, it always has.

Steve, I’m a progressive Democrat in my late 70s, white Southern Christian feminist Episcopal priest and theologian who is doing everything in my power to push against the christofascism that threatens to destroy all that we value. I consider you a brother-in-spirit. I want to thank you for your courage and clarity. Countless numbers of us are working together to defeat the madness! Together we will prevail!

Please keep explaining what issues are the most urgent for us (the great unwashed) to understand and take action on. What action can we the public take. The Secret Service travesty appears to be of urgent concern-- though other things do too. I feel like my hair has been on fire for five years now

I’d also like to see practical advice on how to get people to actually pay attention. So many have no clue. They fall to one of these groupings (in no particular order, and certainly not all inclusive): 1. Not watching (or even aware of) the January 6 hearings, 2. Aware of but don’t believe what they are hearing/seeing (convinced all evidence is manufactured (ugh…)), 3. Believe they need to do nothing, as the elected officials and lawyers will save us all (ugh…), 4. Have no clue how they as an individual can actually effect the change they desperately want to see, 5. Have zero confidence that anything will actually come of the hearings and that teflon Don and his minions will get away with it all, again.

I adore your writings, your opinion of the orange monster and his enablers/minions/handlers/sycophantic followers is spot on. His is a name I don’t like to use, much like that of the villain in the Harry Potter series: “He who shall not be named.” While I fear that your brutally honest approach may turn people off, I am OVER the epidemic of ostriches in this country. It is incredibly disheartening. The elected Trum-publicans have played their hands masterfully. They’ve been maneuvering the long game. Their momentum continues to churn. The Dems are just waking up to what has been in motion for decades. I fear the actions being taken by the Dems now are sadly too little too late.

That does not mean Dems should stop trying to beat back the aggressive tide of nefarious actions by the Trum-publicans. We can’t stop because it is difficult. But many are beaten down. So many fires to put out. All part of the Trum-publicans plans. Their scatter shot approach attacking every aspect of our lives (voting rights, civil rights, environment protections, gun safety, women’s rights, LGBTQ+ rights, regulations of almost any kind, climate change, etc.) is the divide and conquer methodology. Where to focus first. While you focus here, they run rampant there. It is a constant game of whack-a-mole. Just playing catch-up, or at least trying to catch our collective breaths.

Tragically, U.S.A. has become a misnomer.
