“This morning, I woke up to being smeared by Mr. Meghan McCain, Ben Domenech. He is a serial plagiarist and Fox News contributor, who doesn’t like Matt Gaetz, despite being well-known for being an awful lot like him.”

Steve, I have no idea who Domenech is, but as far as Meagan McCain is concerned, what’s her claim to fame? She’s nothing more than cheap nepo-baby, who got a few good jobs off her family name, before she got fired, and is now nothing more than a “never-was,” with a bully pulpit on X. No one reputable believes anything that this pathetic, waste of space says.

Additionally, any contributor on Fox, speaks for itself; plagiarism and lying and a lack of integrity on Fox, is a feature, not a bug! Didn’t Melaria plagiarize Michele Obama’s speech, and then use AI for her second? Sounds about right, and she’s the most ethical of the group!

Steve. I know you still believe reputations are important, and in most cases they are, but you were a republican political operative; ethics, integrity and truth are oxymorons in your world today, and seriously in doubt in the rest of DC; including for democrats.

Don’t get an ulcer of this, you won’t be working on any republican campaigns any time soon, and consider the sources of the people who are denigrating you and your reputation. Wear this slights and disparaging remarks as a badge of honor and move on.

We all know you have integrity, because you’re politically homeless, like the rest of us! Focus on writing a book about the superficiality of DC politics and name, names, or something to that effect. I’m sure you’ll have a NYT’s best seller. And if the worst comes to pass, there’s always Canada, my Plan B!…:)

Steve, I discovered you watching MSNBC over the years and you immediately became my favorite commentator on account of your brilliant and unflinching oratory. As a writer and passionate life-long reader, I am especially appreciative of your masterful use of our amazing language. I have been avidly following The Warning for months and not a day goes by that I do not give thanks for your fearless leadership of MAGA opposition— especially now that we lost the election, I might’ve given up and given into despair, if not for your bracing and inspirational calls for resistance. I am sickened and deeply sorry that you should have faced this unending harassment, and these vicious scurrilous smears.

Whatever the flaws of the Democrats—and your critique of the party is salutary and necessary— unlike MAGA, we do not seek to force values on anyone. To cite the most grotesque example, they want to force women to give birth to rapists’ babies, or to tragically still-born babies – – whereas we obviously do not force anyone to get an abortion. I am terrified of the way they will brutally impose their theocratic autocratic will on all of us in coming months, and I would love your take on how quickly they will overreach and lose credibility and on how long before their voters begin to regret the tragic, uninformed choice they made and turn against Trumpism. I’m thinking especially of Trump’s Latino supporters, who were perfectly happy to think of Stephen Miller’s henchman rounding up other Hispanics, so long as they themselves were spared (I fear they are in for a dreadful awakening)… How disheartening to think of people who have just achieved access to the American dream, however compromised that is now, smugly denying it to others. But I guess that’s how fascism in its obsession with hierarchies – – everybody seems to relish having an outgroup “below” them too immiserate. I’ve never been so depressed about the state of this country – – nor more terrified for the health of our planet…And this lament just brings me back to where I started – – to my gratitude to you for the crucial and heroic work you are doing and the wonderful community you have created here.

Two final questions, for whenever u may have a chance to address them (and of course you’ve touched on them already): 1) can we hope that in fighting within Trump’s circle of crooks and Kleptocrats will soon blunt his power??? And 2) despite everything I still want to believe in the fundamental goodness of the American people and I am hoping that the hideous spectacle of families being rounded up and put in camps by the US military will shock them; even if they were in favor in theory of mass deportation I’m hoping the reality of what it looks like will cause a moral revulsion in the country. Am I being too optimistic?

With huge admiration, Pearson

I think Maga will implode under the weight of its own corruption, incompetence and infighting. I also believe that when America sees the horrifying spectacle of mass deportations and what they entail and the consequences of Trump's favor-the-wealthiest economic policies they will wake up to what they have done to themselves, the country, and the world. It might be too late. We can only hope it isn't. I hope we hear Steve's opinions on your two great questions.

There are outright lies and Trump has told innumerable ones. But there are also purposeful deceptions, leading the gullible to believe falseholds because they help a politician and movement, in this case, Trump's efforts to become an autocrat over a White Christian Nationalist America. Trump, perhaps due to his own ignorance or meant to purposely mislead, implied that mass deportations and tariffs would bring prices down when the opposite is true. From Newsweek:

"Trump’s deportation plan is causing widespread “panic” among farmers at risk of losing staff and business. Agricultural output will fall between $30 and $60 billion if Trump’s flagship policy is carried out, according to the American Business Immigration Coalition (ABIC).

Business leaders, backed by the ABIC—a lobbying group focused on immigration policies that support industries dependent on immigrant labor—warn that Trump’s policy could result in a “massive loss of revenue.”

Jennifer Tilton Flood, a dairy farmer from Maine, called the potential mass deportations a “catastrophic nightmare” for the U.S. agricultural industry, particularly the dairy sector, which relies heavily on immigrant labor. https://www.newsweek.com/donald-trump-mass-deportation-farmers-1987371

Yes, the general public, including farmers fooled by Trump, should have known better. Why they did not see the obvious effects on mass deportation on their farming is a mystery. The public's failure to understand the destructive consequences of across the board tariffs is a mystery. What we do know is that Trump and his campaign successfully deceived more than half the population. Whose fault is that? Only Trump's? No, the public must be held responsible for what they ALLOWED HIM TO DO TO THEM!

Steve, thank you for noting how common political lying and deception is. We know how dangerous it is. Hopefully, if there is a next time around, the public will pay more attention, reign in their ugly emotions, and truly vote in the interests of all people without regard to race, immigration status, ethnic background, gender expression, sexual preferences or any of the other superficial differences among people.

It did not take long. Reports this morning indicated Medicaid will be “overhauled.” Just another euphemism for big cuts. The poor whites in the South will be losing more than they ever realized by supporting MAGA.
