Every essay, every video Mr. Schmidt produces contains at least one unforgettable verbal construct or image. Today we heard him say, so rightly, that our right to vote was "passed down to us on a river of blood." Brilliant. Succinct. True.

My family came to America with Lord Baltimore to found the Maryland colony. We have fought and died in virtually every war since 1776. The latest was my cousin Roger who found himself and his squad of US Marines in the dark of night in Khafgi, Saudi Arabia peering through his night vision goggles to see 90 Iraqi T72 main battle tanks bearing down on his Marines who only had jeeps with TOW missiles. He told me that he knew that he and his Marines were in a “world of trouble” and he fought and lost 11 Marines until the USAF A-10 Warthogs showed up and killed the Iraqi tanks! My cousin was also a member of Delta Force who by his own admission had been in 35 nations fighting for America, some legally and some illegally! Or my great great grandfather who founded the first college west of the Mississippi River to admit women in 1850! When the Civil War came, he closed his school and went east to defend the Union. Or a second cousin by marriage, who survived the massacre of 150 American soldiers by the German SS by faking death and then running to alert American forces to the slaughter! I joined this crusade of freedom by working for the U.S. Department of Defense for 22 years and after 911 performed six War on Terrorism research projects to ensure we win the War on Terrorism and not Putin or the little runt dictator of .North Korea who Traitor Trump considers his friend who now has North Korean fascists in Ukraine! Yes, a RIVER OF BLOOD, to protect our freedom and democracy! Ironically, the Orange Monster who called the USA a garbage can was in Wisconsin today pretending to be a garbage collector. But, the American people will be the garbage collectors on November 5th to sweep Traitor Trump and JD Vance on to the ash heap of history! VOTE ALL BLUE AS IF YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT BECAUSE IT DOES!

Well said, sir. Our family tree is of much more recent vintage, but we’ve been doing our part over what is now four generations. And the funny thing is, it’s the recent immigrants in our family who are often prouder Americans than those who were born and grew up here. Let’s not lose this proud tradition to the criminals and fools who would overthrow it.

And then there is Mike Johnson who said today a Chump win means they will take a blowtorch to Obamacare.

Obnoxious fuckers. Excuse my French. I’m originally from Jersey.

As an old English major, I loved Dante. He had plenty of circles in Hell for this loathsome crew.

Actually, I read that Satan is adding another ring just for MAGA. The other occupants want nothing to do with them.

I can't believe you said "obnoxious". I mean, what else would you be concerned with saying? 🤣

They are also malicious fuckers. Oh oh, I said "malicious"! 🤣 (need to laugh today)

Trump projects constantly. It is infuriating for decent people to endure his hypocrisy, but there apparently are millions of his followers who do not meet my definition of decent people.

Projection is something a monkey could do or a dog I don’t know what to compare it to maybe a 2nd grader with foul parents.

Biden's comment yesterday was very unfortunate.

One of those unforced errors that gave 11th hour ammunition to MAGA.

Kamala's speech at the ellipse was really really good.

She needs to create as much distance as she can from the Biden and the speech helped. If she wins, perhaps she really will be a centrist president-- something this country desperately needs.

Trump calls us the enemy of the people (press?) but “garbage” takes this to a whole new level. Go figure

The people who voted for him should realize that Elon Musk will get a cabinet appointment and wants to cut several trillion from the budget. I suspect that many of them rely on government assistance in the form of Social Security and Medicare. They will find out their vote cost them their own well-being. Musk said to expect hardship.

They have to win first. I did my part to make sure that doesn’t happen!

I am hoping the ones who did not vote for him yet will wake up and realize they will get fleeced by oligarchs who will not leave a scrap on their bones.

The fleecing is already underway, but the sheep don't seem to care, as long as they have someone else to blame.

I paid for that assistance by working 56 years and every paycheck stub had initials that paid for my Social Security and Medicare and now at 71 I am finally getting my monies back! It is NOT ASSISTANCE FROM THE GOVERNMENT! Elon the NaZi can get in his spaceship that keeps blowing up and take a one-way trip to Mars!!!

Damn tooting, Mark. This Musk creature is the same as all these oligarchs: greedy motherfuckers who rape and pillage and won’t stop. People in this country better wake up and fast.

Beautifully expressed Steve! I am a Jersey Girl! So I also swear like a sailor. I think Kamala will win by a landslide here is why:

Early voting is braking all records and although there are many republicans voting early, I think many might be the non MAGA conservative moderate Cheney republicans.

Women are voting in droves and are pissed off about the overturning of Roe. We are not going to live in the handmaidens tale.

Gen Z voting in droves. And endorsements by Taylor Swift, Beyoncé , Billie Eilish and other entertainment icons are for Harris.

After the MSG hate fest on Sunday no Puerto Ricans or Latinos and Palestinians will vote for Trump.

I think Kamala will win by more than 300 electoral votes , which may shut Trump the fuck up.

Although I appreciate that last statement immensely, nothing will shut him up.

Ilene, I lived on Staten Island while assigned to CG Airsta Brooklyn. It always tickled me when the natives would say "Get the f... outta here". Steve does it in this video, and it warms my heart. Lets all hang in there, I think we got this.

Shame may be our last best hope. While the Dems, and all of us, collectively walk back Bidens poorly chosen words, those words can also be used as a way of reminding Trump voters exactly who it is that they are supporting and what that support says about them. Look inside yourselves, MAGA followers. You may not like what you see.

Alas, Magats feel no shame. Only Dems do, because they are fully functioning human beings.

Djt is a modern day, orange-faced mad, wanna-be King George, trying to take the democracy that defeated him back and mold it to his whims like a ball of clay.

But the army of the Constitution is growing and following its leader, a brilliant, brave woman, to fight to keep and strengthen our democracy, with the power of many millions of ballots.

I think that George 3 was a madman who was subjected to all types of psychiatric treatments and therapies novel in that era. Much like Trump who needs serious medical attention. He needs to be in a straight jacket.

Trump is no friend to the American people. You can't "fall in love" with Kim Jumg Un, praise Putin and refuse to condemn his attack on Ukraine, insult our allies, threaten to leave NATO and be a friend to the American people or claim to honor and respect our values.

You can't be a friend to the American people and talk off-handedly with creepy Elon about firing workers who dare to strike or by taking away their medical insurance and replacing it with "concepts of a plan."

You are not a friend of the American people when you promise to reward your wealthiest donors with a huge tax cut.

Or, when your political ambition is more important to you than dealing with covid.

Or, when you impede FEMA workers trying to save people suffering in the aftermath of violent storms, by telling your followers that they aren't helping in Republican areas, causing attacks on these courageous workers.

Or, when you incite an insurrection to thwart the will of American voters.

Or, when you claim an election is being rigged against you in 2024 before the election takes place, saying you will accept the results of the election if it is free and fair which, any rational person knows, means if you win.

I can't imagine the kind of life that Trump supporters want. What would they consciously wish for. Do they want to be loved by a Confederate flag staff? The oligarchs are going to kill their golden goose - our citizens will be crushed.

Some newspapers have the courage to speak the truth. For a surprisingly candid review of how unfit for the presidency Trump is, read this editorial from the "Las Vegas Sun." Stunningly honest and pulling no punches, the newspaper gave a warning about Trump almost as convincing as Steve Schmidt!

Thank you for keeping the message clear and concise. I remember 20 years ago or so when my grandfather explained to me that the fascist movement in the U.S. during the 1930s had traction and popularity. It was astounding to me since that subject was glossed over in our U.S. history classes for my public education years. The focus was on the rise of fascism in Europe pre WW2 and of course the results of the horrific war and trying to understand the psychology of those who fell under the spell of fascism. I could not imagine why anyone could support death and destruction on such an industrial scale. These parallels being presented over the last year cannot be ignored. One completely unqualified "leader" who claims to have the answer will result in catastrophe.

In other news, Buzz Aldrin managed to make it to 94 years old before forever smearing his legacy by endorsing Trump as a "...proven, serious, tested leader..." I suppose we can chalk it up to dementia. I just hope that, 15 years from now, the people still alive who supported this coup will admit their part in it, unlike the vast majority of Germans who claimed ignorance or non-support. This time there are better records and more video/audio than Germany back then.

Steve, your framing of the existential stakes in the looming election as a multiplicity of binary or zero-sum choices is spot-on accurate. I would reduce its parameters to a great contestation, like the Civil War, between good and evil, irrespective of whether one interprets those polarities in a religious or secular fashion.
