I was doing my morning reading, and getting ready to write when my friend Chris Cillizza’s superb newsletter stopped me cold.
There it was, a new poll from Scripps News with a jarring headline:
“Scripps News/Ipsos poll reveals a majority of Americans support mass deportation of undocumented immigrants”
Mass deportations?
The poll question isn’t about border restrictions, immigration reform, compromise, or any of the dozens of associated issues surrounding the broader questions that are fairly part of a legitimate debate around what is the appropriate amount of immigration to the United States that should be permitted.
The numbers show that a majority of Americans, including 25 percent of Democrats, all in for the idea.
Trump has already said that the deportations are going to be “a bloody story.” I’m wondering if the country is ready for that.
The first question I have is: who will lead the effort?
The second question I have is: which little Eichmann in the MAGA orbit will lead the logistics of the effort?
I’m generally curious about what your reaction is going to be when a subway car stops in NYC and federal law enforcement boards and asks for papers?
Personally, my opening bid would be: “Go f*#k yourself,” and then increased defiance from there, but everyone will have to make their own stand.
By the way, have you seen the latest from one of fascism’s leading financiers — the new owner of CBS News — talking about the future and the coming era of “citizens being on their best behavior” that will be controlled by the mass surveillance AI society he is dreaming of building? With a net worth of $206 billion, and ownership of an overwhelming percentage of the Hawaiian island of Lanai, the Ellisons will retain their privacy, so I guess there is nothing to worry about.
I wonder who the first federal official will be to have the idea of going after the children first. They are the easiest targets. Certainly, they are the most gullible and pliable, plus the least likely to resist. Their parents won’t abandon them, so once the kids are detained, it will probably be the case that most of their parents will report to the detention camps on their own.
Speaking of the facilities, where will all of this will go down? What will they to be called?
Will the detained persons be expected to work? If so, doing what?
Or, will the facility be more akin to a transit camp — a way station?
Serious question: what about the children born in the United States, who are fully American citizens? Are they to be stripped of their citizenship by some lawful process engineered by the MAGA masters of the new deportation regime? What will be required to do this? A pliant court? A rubber stamp Congress? No problem.
Shouldn’t other people be detained as well? What about the Harris electors, and all of the media who dare ask questions? Where should the Cheneys go? What about Rachel Maddow?
There is a very simple danger staring us in the face.
Fifty-two percent of Trump supporters, according to a YouGov poll, believe Haitians are eating cats and dogs in Springfield, Ohio.
What this means is that a majority of the population is prepared to believe any lie the leader tells them — no matter how heinous or profoundly stupid.
Because of that fact, when 54 percent are ready for mass deportations, it means we are all in danger.
The question at hand is: have we become profoundly ignorant as a society that we don’t know why, and can’t understand how?
When that happens, and if it is happening now, then we are well and truly at the edge of an abyss.
NO. It will not happen. I have Faith in the American people. And then we must cure this sickness in our society to make sure it never happens again. Stop with the fear-mongering Scripps. But there are times it's good to be afraid!! DO something!! Get involved!! Stop these fascists once and for all!!

Wonder if all the Rs who want these people to be deported are willing to do the jobs that will be open. I suspect that’s not gonna happen. They wouldn’t last 1 hour doing the hard physical labor. Talk is cheap but that’s all it is…talk. They know exactly how much this economy depends on these workers but think it looks better to other cult members to support deportations of hard working people. And in the process breaking up families. They’re a bunch of ignorant assholes who can’t see beyond their own nose.
