The fact that Justice Thomas' wife Ginny is calling on Republicans in Congress not to vote for Supreme Court reform should tell everyone reform is desperately needed. The Supreme Court has the lowest approval rating because they put politics and personal views in the judgements instead of relying on the Constitution and law.

What can realistically be done about Ginni and Clarence????

Right now, our best solution is to get a Democratic majority in the House and Senate to support Kamala in reforms we need to have a true Non-partisan Constitution supporting SCOTUS.

I think you need a little more nuance in your statements about Hamas, Israel, and Palestinians. Everything you say about Hamas and Iran is true. But Netanyahu cares about staying out of jail more than anything else, while half his government chants "From the river to the sea," when Western media is not looking. Killing thousands of Palestinians to defeat dozens of Hamas fighters is not going to achieve a lasting victory or peace. I support Biden's efforts to negotiate a cease fire, but I think a reduction in offensive weapons deliveries to Israel is justified to force Netanyahu to negotiate in good faith. Right now he's just holding out hoping for Trump's reelection.

As far as RFK, Jr. goes, his effort to have his name removed from the ballot in North Carolina has delayed the start of voting here.

As sure as December follows November, the Wing Nuts will be saying the vote here was rigged.

Such are the days in which we live.

Do you think that Trump's abandonment of the Iran nuclear accord emboldened Iran's Hamas and Hezbollah factions? My 17 year-old granddaughter believes that Trump made peace with Russia and kept the world safe. Thankfully she doesn't turn 18 until after the election and can't vote but it's a struggle to educate her political views.

This fine video contains a clear-sighted exposition of two of the main issues that will face the next President: Supreme Court reform and Iran. Neither of these issues will be addressed if Trump is elected, they will continue to fester to our national detriment.

The Roberts Court has been a national disaster since Bush vs. Gore and continuing to this day. There are a lot of good ideas for reform out there, including such things as age limits and expansion of the Court, but these can only be implemented if there are substantial Democratic majorities in Congress. Narrow majorities can't get this done, because too many Congress-critters owe their political power and indeed their very political existence to maintenance of the status quo.

Iran is an even thornier problem. It is one of the world's great civilizations, and isn't going to go away. Nor should it. But the seizure and misdirection of this great civilization by a large group of religious whackjobs has put it into a position of active aggression (not just hostility) against its neighbors. We have to remember that there remains substantial support within the Iranian population for the regime. It could not continue otherwise were this not so.

The United States will have to continue to confront this aggression forcefully before the festering issue of Palestine can be addressed. Damp down the fuel supply to fight the fire. But at the same time you have to fight the fire. Earlier commenters have noted some of the difficulties involved in the United States's efforts to assist in this issue. The Israelis have not helped themselves by electing a government in which half the members have a different view of "from the river to the sea," but given the situation in which they find themselves, it is not surprising.

A MAGA administration would be utterly incapable of addressing either issue.

I agree that Hamas must not be allowed to continue to exist. I agree the US should find and kill all those involved in the taking and killing of American and Israeli hostages. But I also think we must be very careful not to lump the Nazi Waffen SS and people who are literally anti-Jew with people who think killing many thousands of Palestinian civilians, mostly women and children, and reducing the entire Gaza Strip to rubble is an unnecessary and unhelpful cruelty in the battle to rid the Middle East of Hamas. A cruelty that could make the US appear complicit in war crimes by providing Israel with the means to do it. Clearly, obliterating Gaza is not bringing hostages home. Precisely because this conflict is born from Iran, it will not end with the end of the Palestinian territories as we know them.

If we want to see salvaging our constitution and progress made it is essential not just to elect Harris but also to have Democrats control both houses of Congress.

Don't be surprised if Thomas comes out in favor of reform. That way he can flagrantly flaunt his blatant corruption and utter disregard for the Constitution even more.

What remains very worrisome is something Adam Kinzinger said:

Remember, Trump doesn’t need to win the national popular vote to gain the presidency. In fact, all he has to do is work his magic in a handful of so-called swing states, and he can win.

The appointed justices were questioned and they with practiced innocense politely lied. This sordid, shameless indifference to judicial integrity verifies the extent to which the highest legal authority in the land has degenerated. Way beyond any pretense. A right-in-your-face fuck you, America. The Supreme Court is no longer great and grand--it is now gauche and grotesque. It should be treated as such, dramatically and without quibbling over "alternating" its powers, suggesting changes that will never happen. If the court is biased beyond question, only fools will continue to petition that same court for change.

In thinking about our own upcoming election, does anyone know more about the funding Jared Kushner received from Iran for his business and why redirecting more attention to this is not being done?

So much controversy about Hunter Biden and so very l little disclosed regarding any and everything surrounding the former administration’s financial dealings, outside of the criminal investigations, into which we have a much limited view.

It would seem that the parallels between Trump, the family’s business connections to Iran who is actively waging war through its terrorist organizations, would throw up many more red flags for media outlets in support of the Harris campaign.

Question: The July 1st, 2024, ruling of the United States Supreme Court gives presidents immunity from prosecution for crimes committed in connection to "official acts." They are using this ruling to exonerate a past president, Donald Trump. Do all other past presidents qualify for such exoneration? (Like past President Richard Nixon?)

Just wanted to say that I found a Biden Admin agency head that I think is doing a very good job... Lia Khan the Chair of the FTC. Unfortunately she is thwarted by the globalist corporatists planted in the Justice Department that is supposed to share responsibility for combating corporate malfeasance and over-consolidation. But Ms. Khan is a rock star... the only Biden Admin appointee that I can find doing work for the people and not the Regime.
