You are younger than I (75yrs.); my health is declining rapidly. I feel compelled to contribute in the ways that I still can to find and promote the solutions to the global existential crisis of our time. I will continue to take the measures that I can as an individual and vote for candidates in governance who recognize the threat that has arrived NOW but it is essential that the petty bickering of politicians about things of so much less importance be cast aside to devote our attention to the CLIMATE CRISIS. The “Weaponization “ and other nonsense cluttering our halls of Congress and in other nations as well must be seen as the detractors they are if we are to salvage the gem of the Universe in all her beauty and biodiversity. Our attention must be clear and focused. Those who relish power and wealth are going to have to compromise or die. It’s that simple. ❤️🇺🇸🌎🔥🌊

We have so many projects already developed that are ready to STOP FOSSIL FUELS but those who profit from same must be held accountable and participate in the solutions and engage in a more modest green lifestyle.

This is one of the most poignant and necessary warnings that Steve has written. Let’s hope it falls on the right ears and inspires all of us to do what we can to save this wonder full planet for its inhabitants of all species.

I’m the same age, and not optimistic.

As for the oligarchs, many have all ready constructed the environmental fortresses they hope will protect them from their mess.

The Giving Tree By Shel Silverstein

"I am sorry," sighed the tree.

"I wish that I could give you something....

but I have nothing left.

I am just an old stump.

I am sorry...."

"I don't need very much now," said the boy.

"just a quiet place to sit and rest.

I am very tired."

"Well," said the tree, straightening

herself up as much as she could,

"well, an old stump is good for sitting and resting

Come, Boy, sit down. Sit down and rest."

And the boy did.

And the tree was happy.

The earth gives and gives and we take and take until there will be nothing more to take.

We know better so let's do better!

We need to call it what will get the Billionaires driving our discourse will pay attention to: The Most Costly Issue Facing the World Today. Trillions of dollars are spent every year managing the disasters caused by Global Warming.

Every hurricane, every wildfire, every flood- cost the global economy trillions. All the airline flight cancellations, all the knock-on effects - all the costs of entire regions spent on air conditioning, or TX freezing, or the supply chain issues caused by impassable conditions. All the heathcare costs of those injured in these weather events, the despair, the FEMA trailers…. These costs are what will finally break the wall the Right has put up for 50 years. All of their profits from pumping oil are gone (and twice gone) from the costs of Global Warming.

Until we make it clear what the Price of Global Warming really is? It will only accellerate.

It’s the only argument they hear.

Good morning, Steve, happy to hear that you are feeling better, and that you don't have COVID. I had COVID at Easter and still don't have my energy back.

The current Global Warming situation is frightening. I can't comprehend how people can continue to refuse to acknowledge the problems and cooperate on finding solutions.

I know it's pointless, but I often wonder how much different so many things would be if the SCOTUS wouldn't have awarded the election to Bush🤷🏼‍♀️

I also wonder why insurance companies, who are having to pay more and more for damage caused by these severe weather disasters, don't speak out in favor of the need to find solutions.

Let me call your attention to “The Planet 🌍 “ newsletter by Alexander Verbeek currently walking the Camino Frances in Spain in collaboration with the insurance giant “SwissRe” documenting the changing climate in his travels. Climate mitigation and risk, solutions are their agenda. It’s a great read here and in Patreon in more detail, Twitter, YouTube,

Medium, all platforms on line.

Thank you for this information.

Agree. Thanks for bringing this up. As usual as more people awaken to the pending catastrophe, Will they connect the dots? Our go-along, get-along media will never go so far as to directly implicate fossil fuels. Those who choose to stay in the dark will be manipulated by the fascistic voices who are amplified by big oil. Like you I’m freighted. VOTE BLUE but expect ACTION. “Blue” can stall too. I have no illusions.

The insurance companies are just not writing new policies in disaster prone areas. You're right that they should do better.

Yes, Karen, the insurance company solution is to pull out of places like Farmers Insurance has pulled out of Florida.

David Attenborough:. “The fact is that no species has ever had such wholesale control over everything on Earth, living or dead, as we now have. That lays upon us, whether we like it or not, an awesome responsibility. In our hands now lies not only our own future, but that of all other living creatures with whom we share the Earth.”- from the documentary series, Life On Earth.

Thank you, Steve, for this important topic today. We must come together to save our planet.🌎

Don’t forget the Cheney Doctrine on terrorism: if there is a one percent chance of a threat, it should be treated as a certainty. Then along came the climate crisis which is the biggest threat to civilization in human history with a certainty of 99%. And how does the GOP react?

That fool from Florida yesterday called John Kerry, as well as the leaders of 195 countries who also recognized the climate disaster, "grifters."

Any time prior to the 1970s would have been a good time to start reducing CO2 worldwide. We didn't. The next best time would have been during Bush 2's presidency, but we didn't. I'm afraid, from what I have read that now is too late. It is upon us. BUT, never say never. We can tame it, maybe reduce it if we act now. Here's the problem as I see it. The US, Europe and China seem to run on the same tracks when considering climate change. They run on money and politics, both of course related and in direct conflict with reducing CO2. We have made some gains with electric powered vehicles, but that's just not even close to enough. We need to move faster to wind and solar, enough to power our various manufacturing and power plants. Can we achieve that on a global scale given that money and politics issue. I have my doubts but I remain optimistic.

For anyone who is interested in knowing more about how we got here, I recommend “The Petroleum Papers” by Geoff Dembicki (I have no relationship to him, the publisher, etc.).

The truth, of course, is that we’ve all been hearing this for years, but the voices of science and reason have been drowned out by the droning of the stock market reports and by people chanting, “Drill, baby, drill.”

Expand full comment

Every human being should be concerned with climate change. Denying it isn't going to stop the earth from burning.

Expand full comment

The most important and at the same time, the most widely ignored factor on climate change is raising animals to eat. The United Nations has said that raising animals contributes more to climate change than all of the cars, trucks, airplanes, trains, combined. This won't change as long as big business has a grip on our politicians.

Expand full comment

Robert, whenever someone (usually a party with a political agenda) says that something is the "most important factor" not considered, I immediately become suspicious. Raising animals for food consumption is ones of those political ploys. Hyperbole is a roadblock to real solutions, unless you're heading to a Soylent Green solution, that is.

We never ask for the help we must have, from large corporations, to solve our earths problems. Instead, we lower or eliminate their taxes. We let them sell hordes of furniture, cars, homes, virtually everything usable for anything, wrapped in plastic, shipped worldwide, ending up in dumps, rivers and oceans, and never say- Hey, you profited from this mess, now clean it up. The act of grift is the act leading our world, with great reward to individuals, corporations, and countries alike.

Our earth is burning. The imbalance has only just begun to show itself to us. We drop bombs, steel oil from the globe we live on (is there ever anything said about what oils purpose when left inside the earths shell? Could it be a ballast, perhaps, a weight to keep us from careening into the sun?) WTH? It’s never discussed- it’s just sold to the highest bidder.

Who will save us from this mess?

Expand full comment

Plus, I have been hearing that only 5 to 10% of the plastic we diligently recycle actually gets recycled. Someone online said not to recycle plastic bottles. They only end up shipped to foreign countries which then dumps them in rivers and they end up in the ocean. He actually said it’s better to put them in the landfill here in the US.

Expand full comment

Ann, we remain uninformed. I laugh (and cry) when faced with 3 separate trash bins in an establishment, one meant for "landfill", another for "recycle", and a third for miscellaneous and sundry possibilities, but alas, no explanation, and each container with exactly the same items in them....????? We are not in the least bit serious about our own responsibilities in this effort....

Back in the day when one could hold a normal conversation about all topics with Republicans, they were in favor and believed in Science. However that day has sunset and we have awaken to find the Republican party has been replaced by Science denying avatars. Everyone please check your basements and garages for pods before it is too late and we are all replaced by these space cadets. The pods need high CO2 levels and warmer temperatures to grow. When they reach their optimum temperature they open and kill their human counterpart and take over their lives. These forgeries have a leader because I've seen him. Beware, his skin has an orange hue and his hair reaks of peroxide. He lives and thrives in the heat of the Florida jungle.

Science is real our oceans are warming and mother nature is fighting back with more violent storms. Help your mother earth or fall victim to the blob from Florida. There is a pod awaiting you.

Global climate change is not a local problem even though the affects are felt more in certain areas. In the US the fires are in the west, the hurricanes the east, and floods in our central regions and northeast. But even if we all drive EVs charged by solar and all the new factories coming back to US soil are efficient, the skies will still be contaminated by emerging industrial nations who don’t have the same foresight or concern. They just want to get out of third world status. So there is the moral issue. We help ourselves by not just helping the Indias and Chinas of this world, but by moral/economic influence to do the right thing. It’s complicated and risky working with such countries but the alternative is unacceptable.
