“I imagine one of the reasons people cling to their hates so stubbornly is because they sense, once hate is gone, they will be forced to deal with pain.” - James Baldwin. And so they inflict this pain on others.

Why is a dictator even allowed to come to the U.S.? I doubt the President invited him.

Tucker Carlson's father, Richard Carlson, is said to be a director of Policy Impact, a lobbying firm, in 2021. The firm has lobbied the US on behalf of Hungary's Victor Orban's government. Where is the line between lobbying and being an agent of another country.

Aren't we always at the crux of our past and our future? How can we extend the tragedic meaning of "survivor" to our living lives, when events such as the one you here speak of take on a monumental meaning that demands our attention? Orban's racial position is abominable, forcing his country to look over the fence at Putin's racial cleansing agenda, rather than "submitting" to EU pluralism. But the autocratic cry here is the "cleaner" one, the ideological one that offers order and minimal spaces, unstained by the colors of the skin, by the human traces that create the unwanted disorder of voice and choice, not the messy Russian Federation's "brutality." And the photographs above are the gates towards understanding the MAGA movement and the individuals who give it life, men and women in search of the Commander In Chief that looks more like Orban than Trump. Of all places, in Texas. What is it that I want? I want a press at their heels, demanding WHY Orban is such a center-stage guest in America. I want biting journalism, of the kind that characterizes war journalists where clarity of mind is central. I don't want Orbans walking freely into American soil, to speak about the separation of the races as if it were table talk, totally normal talk. It is not and Americans should be outraged. I do hope that the press is also.

Keep shining a purifying light on Fascism where ever the malignancy is taking root. Stomp out it's devious flame before it devours and spreads like the many wildfires plaguing our great country. Education and Truth are our only weapons against the evil of Fascism.

I was brought up in Catholic church but turned away when their arrogance shielded the the abhorrent behavior of some in their Clergy. Instead I have found solice in a Higher Power I call God. My God is not the same God the Christian Right believes in. No my God respects all individuals with no exceptions for exclusion. Everyone is welcome in my Church, which has no churches. I pray God will help us in the fight against the evil of man and stamp out the false icons worshipped by the so called Christians.

never liked that guy, Schlapp. Always thought he was just a little too slimy. Guess I was right.

Why is Orban allowed to come to the US? I am astounded at the belief systems of some of these conservatives - it just astounds me! I can't say it any other way.

I continue to be struck by the ways in which the media diffuses the stark reality of these blatant crimes, abuses of power and acts of sedition. It’s not just words among these folks. It’s actions. Watching those hearings and reading about the things Trump and his allies did and do on one hand, and then seeing articles about the potential ‘political implications’ of indictments is incredibly frightening to me. I hope more people are seeing these obvious parallels and warnings Steve. They are as clear as day to me.

“Listen, my children, and you shall hear

Of the midnight ride of Paul Revere,

On the eighteenth of April, in Seventy-five;

Hardly a man is now alive

Who remembers that famous day and year.”

— Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, 1863

Please continue the work as our modern day Paul Revere. Sadly most are sleeping, but trust that a few of us are awake, and grateful for your urgent cry.

And isn't Mrs. Schlapp usually giving public verbal support to her facist husband? If degree of skin color determines where you are in the intellectual/intelligent ranking, someone has to explain to me the people I see daily climbing past these white facists with determination to save the constitution and our democracy. Obama anyone?

"Woodstock"??? I take it that it's a "Woodstock" for fascists who will all wear suits and ties to the party. What I can't figure out (and I probably haven't read enough) is why Hungary, with Orban as its fascist leader, continues to be a member of NATO? What does he have to do with "democracy"? Doesn't Orban, alone, object to the attempt to pass move to create a "Center for Democratic Resilience"?

It seems worth noting, as Isabel Wilkerson does in her seminal book, "Caste," that Germany studied the American Jim Crow laws when designing the Nuremberg Laws. Ideas of racial purity go back a long way in U.S. history (certainly predating 1853) and the story of fascisms in the U.S. and Germany is more of an interplay than we sometimes remember.

Never be the case, we've let those who seek to divide us, succeed. They keep pushing us to the edge, one day it's going to break, I think we all sense it. Whether we admit it or not is another story.
