Sometimes the bear gets you, and sometimes you get the bear

Greetings from the wild west coast of British Columbia, and the world’s greatest cold water surf town, Tofino. Surrounded by some of the world’s oldest forests and trees the Clayoquot Sound is a place of transcendent natural beauty that is simply awe-inspiring.

This is a place where bald eagles soar above 2,000-year-old trees and fern-covered forest floors teeming with life, while offshore orcas, humpbacks and grey whales thrive in one of the world’s most pristine marine environments. All of the abundant life here is dependent on the salmon, which are the cornerstone of the ecosystem. Without the salmon, there is no life in the same way that, without elections, there can be no freedom.

During recent weeks, there has been much written and said about the need for Kamala Harris to speak more directly about “policy” — whatever that may mean. In the meantime, the Trump campaign continues apace at warp speed, focused on the issues that the American people care about like Black immigrants from Haiti eating their pets, and the price of this beautiful Trump watch that can be purchased for $100,000.00 in American money:

Looking out at the ocean and up at the sky I wonder what the orcas and the eagles think about this.

Last night I had a dream. A huge bear came up to me on my hike, and asked if Trump was going to lose, start a second insurrection, and try to overthrow the government.

I gave him a quick pat on the head and responded, “Does a bear shit in the woods?”

Then woke up, but couldn’t believe the dream. No, not the talking bear part. The part about Trump becoming president once, and still at it 10 years later. Incredible isn’t the right word, but it will have to do. Sometimes the bear gets you, and sometimes you get the bear.
