DeSantis mega-donor Robert Bigelow is the one who got Sen. Harry Reid to start that covert US govt UFO / UAP program in 2007 (and award Bigelow the prime contract), which then was uncovered by Leslie Kean, Helene Cooper and Ralph Blumenthal in their famously revelatory Dec. 16, 2017, two-fold story for the NY Times, which got the ball rolling for the US Congress to get involved with Intel committee hearings on UFOs/UAP, setting up whistleblower protections for UFO witnesses to come forward, etc. etc.

I bet Bigelow right now feels he has more chance of being lifted up into a UFO with space aliens than seeing DeSantis rise in the polls.

As a follower of Jesus, the Buddha, and Gandhi, i'm not into "revenge seeking," but, humorously, I kinda wish space aliens would temporarily deport DeSantis (and his wife) to some strange place, the way he deported those innocent, hapless asylum seekers off to Martha's Vineyard.

What an intoxicating other-worldly vision you've painted here! The beings on the other planet will have only one eye. Casey and Ron DeDone will then be "The Different Ones" (this is from a play Rod Serling wrote by that title)....welcome to...The Twilight Zone.

Lisa, I vaguely remember from childhood episodes of The Twilight Zone that explored these themes ✨✨✨

Rod Serling was a marvel-- not just entertaining folks with remarkably interesting stories but also teaching us all sorts of higher lessons about life.

He assembled lots of talent in front of and behind the camera, and the result is dozens and dozens of fine episodes -- gems from that b&w TV era that still dazzle today--making them timeless.

Yes, I love Rod Serling for the reasons you've mentioned. I used some of his plays with middle school students and there is such a wow-factor, an 'aha!' at the end of his plays and stories. What a gift to this world. His personal history is fascinating.

Lisa, i'm glad you were able to turn many middle-school students onto these plays and stories by Rod Serling. I just spent about 15 minutes perusing the very long and fascinating Wiki page on Rod's life history.

His war-time experiences in WWII were harrowing. It's amazing he didn't die.

And then several years later he volunteers to be a test subject for a military plane ejection seat that had killed the previous three subjects!!

Then he dies prematurely in 1975 at age 50 from his 3rd heart attack in a short period -- due to his longstanding chain-smoking habit. And his wife Carol outlives him by fully 45 years (dying at age 96 in 2020).

We lost Serling far too soon!!

Rod was a voice for racial and economic justice, egalitarianism, peace, and sanity, and very much against xenophobia, war-mongering, willful ignorance, and other ills.

Yes, the MAGA Republicans have nearly sucked the oxygen out of our country. They don't need any more. A Beautiful dream.

The arrogance of people like Ron and Casey DeSantis. Watching them crash and burn is an awful lot of fun. Isn't it? Yes!

I’m really really hoping that you are right when you say that the next fascist wanna-be president will not have learned anything from the DeSantis campaign. My greatest fear since Trump took over was that one of these fascists with the capability of learning will in fact run and win, and destroy democracy and with it the country. Thank you for all your insights.

If you’re going to lead any organization you need to have in equal measure vision and concern for the individual

DeSantis had neither vision nor concern.

Say good night, turn off the lights , put a “for rent” sign in the window. They’re history. The vultures are just waiting to pick over the remains

When I think of the DeSantis campaign, all I see in my mind's eye are a dozen or so Roman Candles all igniting, lighting up a tiny section of night sky for about 2 minutes, then disappearing, dying out. You can't re-use or reinvigorate a used Roman Candle. Same goes for the Ron DeSantis campaign, I believe.

Ron is so busy slapping towels in the locker room that he forgets when to throw in the proverbial towel.

Ron DeSantis is small potatoes with blight plainly visible. He will never become president. He is an unlikable, petulant child with a nasal whine that gnaws at your ears like gnats. He is so full of himself there is no room for underlings to manage his emails. He is afraid of being seen as weak so he strikes at Disney for being a welcoming place for everyone, not just the ones approved by Ron. His defense of slavery is also an attempt to be seen as a strongman. However, he looks even weaker by his comments and actions. Ron will never be president. Perhaps he is angry at Disney Corp for not letting him micro manage Mickey Mouse' clubhouse. Take your ball and go home to mommy. We would rather do housework than play ball with you.

That DeSantis as a political candidate openly muses he would "slit throats" if elected tells one all they need to know about the man. He is a sadist. Shocking as it might seem, I see him as worse than Donald J. Trump. Or, at the very least on equal par.

Ron DeSantis is a mean-spirited, lackluster lunk, with no panache, no charisma, no wherewithal to pivot, featuring a pained smile that is a terrifying Pennywise grimace, makeup artists and style consultants impotent facing the montage of blood-stained jowls and circus stilts

I’d like to reassure Keli Goff that at least in my blue dot hometown here in flyover country, home to both UPS and Heine Bros., the 2nd largest unionized coffee chain in the US, people understand her fight. People here understand that the WGA and SAG are fighting the same fight as the baristas that organized Heine Bros. last year, and support them fully. Just because your name is in the movie credits, it doesn’t mean you are not a proud American worker.

The one thing I’ve noticed in my study of authoritarian wannabe leaders is exactly what you point out Steve about DeSantis. They want to lead, but in fact, they’re terrible leaders who don’t have any idea about leading, empowering, and managing people. In fact, they don’t like people at all which is an irony of ironies. Not only do not like people, they don’t trust them at all including their trusted advisors, the people closest to them. This leads them to be huge micromanagers. They have to make all the decisions because nobody is as smart as they are, nor can they be trusted not to screw up. This leads to slow decision making which makes the organization slow to adapt and unableiu pivot when it needs to.

Ron DeSantis is way out of his league in the political competency scale. Certainly the GOP can find a candidate who can lead the nearly demolished party back into the democratic process. Russia is leading the presidential race with 51 over 49 in terms of the 2024 election. Trump is communicating unabridged Russian propaganda on a daily basis with little indication of pushback. God help us if Trump is reelected.
