Rep. Dan Goldman: "Donald Trump is genuine and authentic": "Desantis is a fad."

***DJT is a LIAR and he knows it! He is NOT genuine and authentic, he is full of LIES and malevolence, and only strives for power, money and media attention. I stopped watching this 4 min in because I cannot listen to this kind of reference to DJT or the person who says such a stupid thing. DeSantis is a fraud and a fascist. I hope this is a fad....but I don't think so.

Lisa, desantis is a nazi. Look at what he has done to Florida. They are both despicable, and a danger to our country. I could not listen to the whole thing, either.

DJT changed his position as the winds blew, too. Here's a WAPO 3 min video of him changing his stance on abortion: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2016/04/03/donald-trumps-ever-shifting-positions-on-abortion/

As I understand, DJT lied 33,000 times while in office. He'll say anything to benefit himself.

He meant Trump is an authentic malignant narcissist and can not be anything else but an authentic malignant narcissist. He is true in that way.

Ok, but 'authentic' and 'genuine' are typically complimentary terms -DJT is a sociopathic malignant narcissistic-lying-cult-leader-nut: a dangerous one, and he should be referred to as what he truly is whenever the subject of this POS comes up. (Thanks)

Of course I take your point.

Please see my separate comment. I hope subscribers will listen to what Rep. Dan Goldman actually said. Given Goldman's deep knowledge of the Indicted Assailant, surely his thoughts deserve a fair hearing.

Hi Rebecca, I listened to the rest of the interview. I'm glad I did. Goldman does give due mention to what the Biden administration has accomplished and makes some other good points. The biggest take away for me was Steve strongly pointing out what a departure Desantis' platform and approach is to anything we've seen before. About what Goldman said regarding DJT: (2:30 sec) "I think that the one thing you have to give Donald Trump credit for is he sticks to his guns and I do think that people think, whether they like him or not, he is is genuine and authentic..." (he does mentioned context of DT's authoritarianism, etc) I don't personally feel that most people think DT has these qualities and he should not be given any 'credit' for being genuine or authentic. Thanks.

Trump is an authentic SOB. If he wants credit for that, let's all give it to him.

I don't know that I agree. Under him, Florida has gone from being somewhat "purple-ish" to deep red, with a few isolated blue pockets. That to me does not say "fad". I despise DeSantis, but I'm not willing to dismiss him as a fad, even if he does get trounced by the Orange Asscactus in the Republican primary.

I see « fad » as meaning that DeSantis doesn’t have a firm personal belief in anything, that he (DeSantis) promotes what he thinks the Republican voters want to hear or to support or oppose. For example, when some voters felt that what is being taught in schools did not align with their personal beliefs & felt that some textbooks shouldn’t be used, then DeSantis was all for banning books & changing material in textbooks. He wants power & will do whatever he thinks will award him the the necessary votes to achieve it.

You're probably right about what he meant by "fad." However, the truth is DeSantis really believes in his own extreme agenda, whereas Trump doesn't believe in anything except money and his own hugely inflated sense of self-worth.

Yes, Trump’s first (& probably only) love is himself, no doubt about that!

That was a good one.

I wish readers had listened to the actual post before commenting on it, let alone insulting Rep.Dan Goldman (D-NY). He said the Orange Attacker "is genuine and authentic, in an authoritarian, dangerous, and narcissistic way". DeSantis, by contrast, "reeks of fad".(not "is a fad".

Phrases matter.

Controlling weapons of mass destruction shouldn't be that hard. All those guns should have a registration number and a record of who they were sold to. The owner should be licenced to buy a gun and his licence linked to the registration number.

Just like we licence car drivers and car owners. Owners should be old enough to vote and required to carry accident and liability insurance. It's so malicious to turn the owners of those Ak guns loose on a society of women, children and old people without the same safeguards we demand about cars.

DeSantis may not be a "fad" but he seems to be managed by people who have horrid ideas. Was his broadcaster spouse behind this Twitter event that shows his basic unseriousness about becoming the leader of the free world?

I wouldn't be so quick to write off DeSantis. I think he could pull the evangelical's vote along with the authoritarian voters. Those voters would go with trump if DeSantis doesn't run. Also, it's my understanding there is some big, big money behind DeSantis.

I don’t know if there is an “unabridged edition” of this interview with Dan Goldman, because it certainly doesn’t make sense that he would actually credit Trump in such a way. My interpretation was that Trump is an “authentic” antisemite, misogynist, and racist individual. For DeSantis, he takes on the “hatred du jour”, whatever it is, to basically remain in lockstep with Trump and play to Trump’s base. They’re both disgusting, hateful and mean-spirited human beings. Trump may be more “authentic” because he’s “organically” a bigoted person in all aspects. God-forbid either one of them gets near the Whitehouse. I’m most always quite impressed with Dan Goldman’s viewpoint on subjects and especially the “counter-balance” conscience against idiots like Gym Jordan on the select committees they sit-on together.

Trump is “authentic” because he tells us who he is every time he opens his mouth—he’s a bigoted, racist, anti-Semitic, misogynistic, indicted , gratuitously cruel, grifting twice impeached former President who has no heart or core belief system other than naked self-aggrandizement. The term does not mean anything positive when applied to him.

On the other hand, Desantis will take whatever position he believes will serve his ambitions. Thus the word “fad” can be said to apply to him. He says he doesn’t retreat but he does and he will if he thinks a new position will garner more votes.

Yes, I believe we’re in agreement here....all that’s missing is that Trump is “authentically incarcerated”.

I agree with your characterization of Trump, but I believe DeSantis truly holds the despicable beliefs now enshrined in Florida law. The one issue where he actually knows better is Ukraine, but he's enough of a mealy-mouthed weasel to figure, "Oh, I'll just flip when I get to the White House. After a few more right-wing judges, the base won't care."

All the same, nothing the lazy, ignorant, cowardly, psychophant Repugnants say can be considered informative or worthy of any attention. They are owned by the puppet master oilygarchs, some of whom are not even Americans. They play to lose, so they can push all the responsibility for governing on the Democrats. We need to reform our elections and get rid of the electoral college.

Dan Goldman is a good one. His questioning skills on Jordon's committee are great.
