"...we are going to start slitting throats on day one." Can you imagine John F. Kennedy saying that? Obama? Either of the Bushes? Eisenhower? Maybe Lincoln? How is it okay to think and speak like this? Why would anyone vote for this unlikable s.o.b. to be President of the United Sates?

Trump, DeSatanist, and his sick-o-phants are devoid of humanity and yet supported by nearly half the country. It's so disgusting. Thanks. Steve. I'd like to see you back on TV because we need your voice loud and heard.

Imagine my horror while reading those words from Ron DeSantis! I am astounded beyond all measure. "Slitting throats"??? What tribe of barbaric animals does DeSantis come from? That anyone running for office, no matter that office, would voice such thoughts disqualifies them immediately. It even disqualifies them as "human". Consummate evil walks among us, and now that evil has a public voice. The depths of inhumanity and cruelty espoused by DeSantis surpass all reason.

We the People have lost ourselves! We must pull ourselves together and get back to our values and ethics. We turned our heads and became indifferent, thinking that our government would continue to go on, doing it for us? We forgot the major fact that we are the glue that keeps our democracy together. We must grab what we stand for, be strong, and seek the truths of our country! Or, we will lose it and merely have to accept what is left over! It is up to US for the U.S.!

Well written / spoken (depending on what version). We need to recgonize just how serious this is that is facing us. I do not doubt that DeSantis was not just a figure of speech, but a real plan. I do not know how many people have any inkling of the whole Schedule F that was proposed at the end of Trump's administration, and what that could do to the US if he has an opportunity to implement a governmental cadre loyal to him only. Forget the oath any federal employee or military member takes to defend the Constitution. It will be an oath to Trump and his rule.

We can stop it, but we need to do it now.

The cultists are brainwashed by Trump and the MAGA movement to think that they and their children are under grave threat from militant blacks, groomer LGBTQ folks, bloodthirsty and Jews, militant youth, communists (ie Democrats) the Deep State, the list goes on. Cultists live in a state of confusion, delusion, and fear. Some of these folks can't sleep at night. Trump has established himself as their protector, savior. Fascism 101.

Steve, good morning. What you call apathy may be diluted by the strong urge to LOOK AWAY from the repulsive, ok, evil of the horrible Donald Trump. That’s why I personally can’t watch Fox lie to everyone. I just can’t. And those who have succumbed to Fox’s IV drip can’t stand to listen to what you have to say. Those who swing liberal often tend to look away all together. The other side sticks like glue to Fox’s swill to get their fix of righteous anger.

And as Kareem said this morning, so they can say “...I’m a good person!”

Never Trumpers, and Steve Schmidt is the best, are impressing a large swath of moderate Democrats with their intellectual honesty and their bravery, and I am one. Their words serve to subtly underscore their historical core values such as fiscal responsibility. I think there is room for broad agreement in the center, and a new way forward.

It really was apathy.

So many people just stopped doing the work we must do for democracy.

What you write here Steve is harsh but accurate. It should inspire us all to fight against the corrupt forces of Trump/ MAGA fascist authoritarianism that some Americans seem to want to succumb to. In addition to the cynicism you identify that has overcome American society (because they see the inequities that have created a ruling class with special privileges for elites like Trump), there is another dark force at work. It’s the dark force created by this cynicism that now motivates many Americans to yield their freedom and rights to the populist demagoguery of radical American right wing fascism. They’ve become willing to yield their freedom in exchange for leaders who promise to “take care of them” if they will surrender their vote, their elections, and their key American democratic duty of providing the consent of the governed. All they must do is now bow their knee to the new “king”. And this “king” is a likely criminal which has just been indicted for the fourth time. Yet, though surrendering their basic citizen rights, those swearing fealty to him seem to still be willing to follow him. If only they knew how much this “king” truly disdains them the way all elitist, fascist, populist leaders disdain their subjects. How easily many of us can be fooled. Our only hope, in my view, is Trump’s corruption, once viewed as he’s tried as a criminal, will be so smarmy it will wake us up. Then we still must fix the inequities that have bred Americans’ political cynicism.

Is it not time for the Paul Ryan’s, Jeff Flakes, and Rusty Bowers of the world, who empowered donald trump and then we’re shocked they could not control him, to stop thinking they will get a better candidate?

Jeff Flake said he thought it was a lay up to call out white supremacy after Charlottesville. It was not. That is now a blinding glimpse of the obvious. He was run out.

You have already said it, but if these men are truly patriotic Americans, the choice is a lay up.

Get behind and support Joe Biden.

This may seem like a bitter pill to swallow, but what else are you going to do.

It doesn't really matter if Trump or DeSantis were to win in 2024--either way, it would be the end of democracy in this country.

Let's elect the throat slitting guy, said no one ever.....save maybe Jack The Ripper...

The election of Donald Trump was assuredly going to lead to mayhem, destruction, decrepitude and sordid chaos, and marked a tragic sea change in our collective apparati, countenance, dignity and carriage.

The most damming dynamic is not Trump, a nearly unchangeable constant, but the multitudes who so readily shed their humanity in service of a beast.

However, perhaps now, with full exposure, revelation and stark unveiling of the proclivities of the morally unsound, we can reknit with the true patriots and even move ourselves further along the trajectory to fulfill our national promise.

The old saying “Democrats fall in love, Republicans fall in line”, is unfortunately true. We need Democratic leaders to step out and show leadership. Our messaging sucks. We need the Whitmore generation to challenge the DNC support of Joe Biden. I appreciate all he’s done since 2020 but he needs to ride off and begin a transition to younger folk.
