These were great words created by a true leader of democracy. How far America has fallen. Let us remember the great Presidents on this day, those leaders who preserved the Union and upheld the ideals of our founders. And in so doing, let us come together to reject the forces of greed and corruption which conspire to ruin America and end the free world. As President Biden keeps reminding us, history is watching.

Perfectly put Eric, that is the call.

We have to pray that enough Americans will do the right thing and keep Chump far, far away from The White House. And every Senator, Governor, and Representative who has endorsed this Fascist Con Artist should be voted out of office.

My father served in the occupational forces in Germany after the war. All my uncles served during the war. I can't imagine how they would feel today with us one election away from overturning all they fought to uphold.

I've made the mistake of thinking America was a foregone conclusion, that we were so strong and settled in our principles that we would never voluntarily hand the keys to the kingdom to a malignant narcissist who has no concept of the genius and grace of our founding documents.

I won't ever make that mistake again.

So it's D-Day in America, only this time the fight is within our shores. I hear FDR's prayer loud and clear.

Happy President's Day Steve. Boy how times have changed. When was the last time we had a President actually pray with us?! Did President Obama?? I know he sang "Amazing Grace". I can't honestly recall which is sad. I do know that prayer you wrote about is almost appropriate right now. The world hangs by a thread. Putin is even more emboldened than ever. So is Bibi and Xi. At least Trump is finally facing some accountability at last although it's happenly too slowly. It's going to be a very anxiety-filled 9 months 'Till November. It already is. But if I've learned anything from the death of Alexei Navalny and other Heroes like the Vets of WW2 FDR talked about that infamous day is that you can #NeverSurrender. Keep the faith friends. We are all in this together!! ❤️🇺🇸💙

Obama recited Psalm 46 at the 10th Anniversary of 9-11. It is a beautiful psalm and I recommend it for reading. George W. Bush read Lincoln’s letter to Mrs. Bixby, which is a beautiful letter and also worth reading.

Bibi may be a terrible PM, but he is not comparable to Putin and Xi. Or Kim Jung Un. There was a huge protest against Netanyahu in Tel Aviv last week. It isn't illegal; they weren't shot, tear gassed, or arrested.

No he's not "As bad" but he's pretty bad. Read Robert Reich's essay today about True Leaders on President's Day. He explains the differences quite well.

Thank you for that Steve, it remains to this day an inspiring prayer, we would be well served by taking it to heart. I think about my own family with three that served including my father and his brothers as well as all of those left behind on the home front, and the national coordinated effort to support the troops with all of their might. If we can’t find inspiration in what they accomplished, I don’t know what could inspire us. We are indeed in a time of trial and inspiration is most welcome. 🙏

My uncle served in Patton’s 3rd US Army. He landed in France after D-Day and fought in the most horrible of conditions to the end of the war. The 3rd Army liberated Buchenwald. Rest in Peace for his service.

Thank you for your words and for including the D Day Prayer of FDR. one sentence of yours stands out to me, " Trump is an immoral man who seeks to return to the Moral office of the presidency. " I may have screwed up the wording a bit because my memory and lack knowledge of how to cut and paste in this situation, your message still comes through. FDR's determination and spiritual beliefs shine through in his prayer. He is not consumed with his role but in the stories of the men and women who are on battlefields and support areas. Furthermore, his thoughts are also with the American people who have loved ones caught up in the fighting of the war. The concept of prayer is foreign to Trump because he can not think about anyone but himself. Trump is not a leader of men, he is a destroyer of men. Donald Trump has never had a day when he was not the most important person, even if that day had nothing to do with him. In his mind, there are no days that don't arise just for Trump and never set on his self-centered belief of greatness. The world revolves around Trump and God bows to Trump. "How sick is that."

Can you imagine words like this ever, ever emanating from the mouth of Donald Trump, written by the cretin Stephen Miller. Hard to believe in what, four generations, a substantial segment of our population forgot or never learned that these are the ideals of a great people and a great nation.

“The schemings of unworthy men.” Now who does that sound like? I cannot believe where we are, I truly cannot. To have not just a few, but millions, descend into madness behind a madman, has shaken me to my core, as an American, as a Christian, and as a 70 year old human being.

History, and I believe God himself, is going to judge the insanity and sickness and yes, evil, of the present day very, very harshly. I pray we turn back before it is too late. To see the anti Communist, pro law and order, “family values” segment of the population unite behind the most vile, pathological human being of my lifetime, and a person who could care less about anything except his own ego and greed, is shocking. I will never say “it will never happen here.” It has, and we have our own Hitler, we really do, and my fellow Christians are good with it? What sickness we have in the USA, and we are close to terminal. I never dreamed I would see such mass delusion. Jim Jones and David Koresh were not an aberration, they were a prophetic warning we failed to heed. Our country is morally, spiritually and politically bankrupt right now.

A beautiful prayer and one of the most scariest times. Today, If I prayed, it would be to filter out the MAGA supporting representatives from the house. Of course, only we can do that, vote them out. They buy supporting MAGA have shown that they take they want to protect their jobs over their vow to protect the constitution, the country and the people. They support dictators like Putin and wannabe dictators like Donald Trump. They are cowards. This has to be the worst of times for our country, due primarily to these representatives who certainly don't care about us or the rest of the world. Money and Power, that's their god. Those of you who voted them in, it's time to vote them out.

AMERICA. The day FDR died, God bless him forever, probably the greatest president ever, my Father was in a bar in Ohio. Not long after little dog, Fala ran out of the house screaming because her Dad was dead, one guy burst in the Ohio bar and said, “The old bastard’s dead, the drinks are on the house.”Yes, hatred and bile are not new. FDR was old and frail and dying but few cared. He was beloved. They wanted him for another unprecedented term. You could see death on him as he led the country out of the worst depression, the worst war into a period of light, of greatness in America. And now we have a stinking piece of shit, a sneak peddling sneakers to pay for his crimes. Pundits, in their lust for a foot race say, “He could soon be back in the WEst Wing.” But soon enough money will not be enough and he will start paying in years. That is if SCOTUS does not take an eternity musing on whether he is entitled to rape your daughter while you watch. WTF? Maybe brains and a justice system can actually work and he can pay for the crimes WE ALL WITNESSED and finally see if the Secret Service can protect him in prison. Maybe not. Maybe we’ll get lucky. In the meantime, Biden is the closest we have had to FDR. Keep him. Cherish him. Thank god for him.

I was in tears reading this. My father was part of the Normandy invasion, which began two days after his 24th birthday--so young! He landed on Utah Beach on D-Day + 1, June 7 (he was lucky, though I know he didn't feel lucky at the time; Omaha Beach on the first day would have been far worse).

How far we have fallen, from repeatedly electing an inspiring leader like FDR to having to even consider the possibility that the buffoon Trump might be elected again. IMO Fox News bears a lot of the blame, and Steve Schmidt I hope you agree (I just subscribed today). I know you won't be afraid to call them out, as the majority of people in public life seem to be. More power to you, and to us.

To that powerful and erudite work of art in prayer by FDR (thank you for this, Steve!), what landed in me the deepest was this..."a peace invulnerable to the schemings of unworthy men" Yes! We know an 'unworthy' man who will try to take away our peace, for yet we know not how to halt the 'invulnerable schemings' of the Orange Devil. Could he end up doing it for us? He could. But all of our prayers are needed to make all that is right and true come to pass by our own decisions to make it so, in word and in deed. Please join me in this if you feel called. Thank you.

Thank you Mr. Schmidt, I am 68 years old and regret had never heard this before. I especially appreciate your efforts to face, identify and call on of the people to eliminate the greatest threat to our democracy ever. Not Hitler, not Stalin, no other individual has ever been so destructive to our American institutions or the American psyche. I am inspired by this prayer. America, we stand on the precipice of disaster. How in hell do we not have a justice system that removes this law breaking rapist megalomaniac from the public view. I am fed up with the constant quiver our media churns every day 10times a day about what this piece of crap criminal is up to, We need to promote the excellent record of the Biden administration . There are reality based true information about the accomplishments not the least of which is restoring our collective health with shots in the arms and our image around the world! . Where are the talking points Democrats? ! I want to hear the list of real tangible accomplishments to overcome the insanity of this criminal, twice impeached convicted rapist and FRAUDSTER. I I,ProRes the major networks and telecoms to wake up NOW, stop giving oxygen to the twisted sick degenerate who knows nothing of courage, or service, I am doing everything in my power to spread “the warning” as you have titled your column. Tell me, is there any chance you would consider run in for the office of the president? You would be a terrific leader and what a thrill to have your strength and character lead our nation!
