Steve, you're a born writer. You just didn't know it. Your Twitter threads were essays in themselves, a good rehearsal for "The Warning" to come.
You express issues in a way no other political commentator today does. Your words are rich and descriptive, yet honest and decisive. You pull no punches, and that's what we need, someone who isn't afraid to take on the liars, conspiracy theorists, imposters, and would-be autocrats head on.
Proud to be a paid subscriber, and looking forward to your insights to come.
I find your writing to be straightforward and spot on. I will never forget how you said that the Republican party should be burnt to the ground. That comment informs your writing very frequently. Your stories about your trip with your son were terrific.
I am so grateful for your voice and perspective on things, Steve. It’s been my great pleasure to follow all your essays this last year. And I fully intend to continue. Also this last year we’ve gotten Joyce Vance on Substack, and Heather continues on, as well as Reich and Beschloss. The sum of all of you being on this platform plus many others has been amazingly informative. I can’t say I feel better about the direction of things. But I do feel more resolved to stand up to it. Yesterday I wrote a Minnesota Senator and chastised his ass for a really shitty piece of fundraising mail he sent out. It contained all the usual GOP tropes and I just said - enough. You helped me do that. And I thank you.
Thank you all so much for your kind words. The sense of community we’ve created is so rewarding to me, and motivates me to write (that daily nudge from my partner in life/editor helps too).
Thanks for your efforts, entertainment, and information. I have listened to you’re insight for years now going back to the frequent TV appearances where you said what needed to be said. I now appreciate your maturity as a writer and analyst going beyond the Trump debacle to cover many topics of interest with depth and flare. Thanks for a great year! Congrats.
You are the clearest, sanest, most coherent voice in our fractured political landscape. Thank you for warning the country about how close we are to the end of democracy. Nothing you say is hyperbole. May you continue with the same vigor and clarity during the coming year. What you do every day is hard. We appreciate your devotion to our country.
A proverb: "Necessity is the mother of invention." It seems that your gift of writing, hidden all this time, was revealed by our country's need for your voice. Thank you.
Steve. As much as you hate writing, I hate reading(not really, I'm just lazy and some degree of ADHD seems to have crept into my post-COV brain). Your essays have kept me from leaping into the abyss of cynicism and the practice of reading your near daily essays has started to rehab that ADHD through routine and practice. Thanks for your work. I get much from it. The history lessons alone are worth the $10 a month. Maybe one day I'll get to shake your hand and thank you in person. Until then, welcome to your Sophomore year!
Congratulations Steve. Every morning I grab my coffee and start reading. Your writing has educated me, made me think and rethink. I so much appreciate it.
A few months ago, during a therapy session, my Therapist asked me what I was reading. I told her about The Warning and started to explain who you were. She stopped me and said I know who he is, he. Is brilliant. So you were talked about in therapy! Haha
I could hardly believe you were not a writer or that it is difficult for you. You are the best writer. Your way with words evokes a powerful understanding in me in both an intellectual and visceral way. I immediately 'get' what you are saying. I also just marvel at your word choices and the way you put them together...you are an artist. Thank you for speaking what I feel and know and have trouble expressing.
Your voice is being heard. Thank you, Steve, for every word you write. The money I have paid to be a Warning community member is the best money I have invested, yes INVESTED in the future, over the past 12 months.
It is stunning to read that you "hadn’t written much beyond a couple of memos," prior to publishing here. That means to me that all of the commentary I have seen you share on live TV and cable over the years came from deep inside of you, your level of intelligence and knowledge, your insight, your capacity to share it, and is true to your inner soul and being. Sounds to me like you needed very little prep, save for probably knowing the topic the moderator/host wanted to discuss, that it just "happens" for you when you have something to say.
I will say I miss seeing you on MSNBC, and would love to see you there again. It would never stop me from paying to read your writing. But let's face, there is only so much time in a person's day. (Love the photos you post. Use them frequently and in volume when you need a breather.)
You are a genius. Thank goodness. Thank you. Thank you.
Happy birthday to the Warning and thank you Steve for keeping it going. I look forward to reading your thoughts on the topics of the day in the future.
Thank you Steve! I've learned so much from you on "The Warning" this year -and from members in this community, too. I've made friends here. You're an inspiration to me. I've also experienced healing here and a conviction to always pick up the flag and keep moving forward. Your grit and genius and gift for writing make for great reading, podcasts, and your videos are outstanding. I need and love the humor! Thank you for working around the clock to protect our Democracy. Best! Lisa

I second!
One more Hamilton reference on this 1st anniversary:
Why do you write like you're running out of time?
Write day and night like you're running out of time?
Every day you fight, like you're running out of time
Keep on fighting, in the meantime-
(Non-stop!)
Happy birthday to the Warning and thank you Steve for keeping it going. I look forward to reading your thoughts on the topics of the day in the future.
Thanks to you Steve and to everyone who takes the time to read snd comment. It will take all of us to save this country.
