Dems should channel Governor Mills of Maine. If there is to be no leadership from Schumer, Jeffries, etal then it is up to the leaders of individual states to tell Trump to F himself.

I would like to see Jasmine Crockett replace Hakeem Jeffries, and Sheldon Whitehouse replace Chuck Schumer. Those two would pack a good punch.

That would be awesome! They are not wimps like many of the Democrats who are afraid to speak out, even in support of our Constitution!!

Anyone who understands Trump and read PROJECT 2025 cannot be surprised. We have lost our legacy media; both political parties; Congress; who is left to uphold our democratic institutions? Do people really think things will get better automatically?? WAKE UP!!

Trump is reviving the idea of European kings who claimed a "divine-right to rule." This is an idea contrary to democracy and the the concept of religious freedom. As for Pastor Paula, there are times and places where she would have been burned at the stake for baring her shoulder and "speaking in tongues" which sounds insane to rational people but has often been interpreted as demon-inspired by those minds perverted by fanatical Christian beliefs, like the "divine-right" of kings.

I honestly wonder where people like Pastor Paula are found? That is one strange bird.

Actually, I don't think for one minute she sincerely believes she is speaking in a long lost language; neither do I believe she is insane; she has found her "sticht" in the world of grifters who will use any tool to pry the gullible from their money.

Modern day evangelical Christian leaders, constantly pressuring their far less well-off flocks into giving them money are no different than the popes who preached that by donating money to the Church you could free a deceased loved one from the pain of purgatory, a place of punishment for the dead whose sins don't warrant eternal agony, but need to be purged for venial (lesser) sins, before their loving God allowed them into paradise.

In fact the German friar, Johann Tetzel, who went around Germany in the late 1400's and early 1500's chanting that, "When the coin in the coffer rings, the soul from purgatory springs," was a major reason Martin Luther posted his 95 theses, critical of the sale of indulgences, on a Church door in Wittenberg, Germany in 1519, the beginning of the Protest-tant religion.

I spelled it wrong. Not "sticht," but "shtick," or "schtick."

I am an ex catholic and have been since I was 7 yo .. I can respect everyones faith as long as they don't force it on me. Freedom of religion and separation of church and state are part of the American dream. My sister who passed in 2023 was a sister nun . She was my best friend. I miss her everyday . She was a gentle soul. She despised Trump and wanted Joe not run ..

I have great respect for Christians (MLK, Bishop Barber etc.) and any other religious leaders (Gandhi) who actually preach the morality of Jesus Christ or any other religious figures who emphasize our common humanity and the human rights of all persons, including the right to be non-religious. I do not use the word atheist because it is loaded with false assumptions about persons honest enough to label themselves a-theistic, which simply means without religious beliefs. This does not mean immoral but reflects a morality based on the consequences of our behavior.

It is those who use believers to satisfy their insatiable appetite for wealth and power that upset me.

Let us look at the Senate, as a start. Why have Democrats been so routinely beaten in The South, with the recent exception of Georgia? Marsha Blackburn, a person as unfit as there is for the Senate, won re-election with 60 percent. I do not believe that Democrats are fielding candidates in The South that match up well to the citizens. These are moderate to conservative people. But we cede a whole region and a good part of the Electoral College by not finding candidates that match up better to the local population. I sometimes get pushback on this. Fine. And we’ll just keep losing elections that we could be winning.

I understand your point. But, IMO, we need people who can explain how democratic socialism is a fair approach to government economic policy that will create a stable economy and reasonable standard of living for all and reverse the extremely unjust distribution of wealth in our country and world.

Yes. I fully agree. I am somewhat thinking out loud, I guess, but I feel some type of new strategy would help to win in states we have been losing for years.

LBJ was clearly prescient when he said, "we just delivered the South to the Republican Party for a long time to come". Far too many people in our political partisan hatred of each other will simply never vote for anyone not in their "tribe". It is particularly evident in the south due to the passing of Civil Rights Act.

I’ve been hoping that this could change, though I realize it is an uphill battle. Tommy Tuberville defeating Doug Jones reminded me that hatreds run as deep as stupidity.

Please, don't let any dog or other loving animal companion anywhere near the cold-hearted people occupying high office in the Trump administration. Think Kristi Nome.

Trump is fighting to make Vladimir Putin great again. He doesn’t understand about where we are in history. He forgot that Zelenskyy unlike Putin is not looking for a ride. Zelenskyy only needs ammunition because they have been fighting back against the Russian invaders with or without the US, since 2014! Trump’s slogan of MAGA is a total phony. He is a genuine MAKE PUTIN GREAT AGAIN idiot.

• Co-mingling church and state

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum addresses Trump:

“So, you voted to build a wall.

Well, dear Americans, even if you don’t understand much about geography, since for you America is your country and not a continent, it is important for you to know, before the first brick is laid, that there are 7 billion people beyond that wall.

But since you don’t really know the term “people,” we will call them “consumers.” There are 7 billion consumers ready to replace their iPhones with Samsung or Huawei devices in less than 42 hours.

They can also replace Levi’s with Zara or Massimo Duti.

In less than six months, we can easily stop buying Ford or Chevrolet cars and replace them with Toyota, KIA, Mazda, Honda, Hyundai, Volvo, Subaru, Renault or BMW, which are technically better than the cars they produce. These 7 billion people can also stop subscribing to Direct TV, and we don't want to do that, but we can stop watching Hollywood movies and start watching more Latin American or European productions that have better quality, message, cinematic techniques and content.

Although it may sound incredible, we can skip Disney and go to the Xcaret resort in Cancun, Mexico, Canada or Europe: there are other great destinations in South America, East America and Europe.

And even if you don't believe it, even in Mexico there are better hamburgers than McDonald's and they have better nutritional content.

Has anyone seen pyramids in the United States? In Egypt, Mexico, Peru, Guatemala, Sudan and other countries there are pyramids with incredible civilizations.

Find out where to find the wonders of the ancient and modern world. None of them in the US. Shame on Trump, he would have bought them and sold them!

We know that Adidas exists, not just Nike, and we can start wearing Mexican sneakers like Panam. We know more than you think.

We know, for example, that if these 7 billion consumers don't buy their products, there will be unemployment and their economy will collapse (within the racist wall) to such an extent that they will beg us to tear down this ugly wall.

We didn't want to, but....

You want a wall, you get a wall. Sincerely yours."

Steve gives us a chilling picture of what has happened and still happening.. I am beside myself.

I don't know anymore. I will continue to do what I think will help us out of this nightmare. If we don't get the leadership we need and the kind of fighters we need and all is lost, I'm thinking of leaving ..If those sickening 77 million people don't wake up I don't know what we can do.

Hasn't Trump already broken the oath? There should be a mechanism whereby the Supreme Court Head Justice who administered the oath can recall a President who breaks the oath by contravening the Constitution, otherwise the oath is meaningless since essentially he lied.
