Will definitely look at “American Times.”

In the meantime I have become an engaged member of the American Civil Liberties Union, the ACLU. At least as far as I can participate.

I saw their mission statement was one of confrontation and engagement with the Trump administration which they stated IMMEDIATELY after he was confirmed President.

They have never backed down from a fight, and no plans to this time. Nearly 100 years of defending Liberties from the abusers. My kind of group for this kind of fight!!

We have just become friends with a new neighbors who are immigrant from Africa. She escaped war in Sierra Leone when she immigrated at 10 and she is black in America. While she and her husband (he is from Ghana, studying to be a doctor) are now US citizens, they have many stories about needless, cruel harassment they have experienced here. To say I am embarrassed by the behavior of my fellow Americans is truly an understatement. I can only be good neighbors to them while he finishes his residency and they move on. Ironically, yesterday, I told her the story of Lyndon Johnson’s War on Poverty. She loves Head Start because of the many ways it has helped her children. When we talk about Project 2025’s goal to eliminate Head Start she has mixed emotions, anger and heartache both. Thank you for the story about Lyndon Johnson who we all know to be an imperfect man but he brought so much to low income Americans. Shame on the Democrats for straying so far away from their previous glory. Let’s help them return to the real America. We can do this!!!

Excellent article Steve. I loved the American Times story about LBJ and am so grateful for all his contributions to Our Society. I plan on subscribing. You're right about your friend Tim too, He is a superb writer. Not sure if I'd say he is as good as you are but then again I'm a little biased. 😉

Definitely agree the Dems need to get Back to the Basics. There's another great saying we have in Recovery: KISS: Keep it Simple Stupid. Don't overcomplicate things. Dems lost their way in talking to people. Hope they can find it back. Reading about LBJ would be a great start. 🙏❤️🇺🇸💙

A great post, Steve Schmidt, and I subscribed to Tim. What a story to tell where Lyndon gained his chops. I have wondered for 6 decades why he was not racist like almost all other Southerners. Now I understand.

Great piece by Tim

Barnicle…. I subscribed… and these stories of great Americans are inspiring. I want everyone here to know that we still have great Americans among us… and in Congress no less. Rosa DeLauro from CT is chief among them. She represents the 3rd Congressional District in CT and has been a warrior for the working class since she started in Congress 33 years ago…. A whirling dervish of a woman with purple highlights in her hair, she strikes fear into the most formidable Republican foe. Her passion and wisdom and dedication to her constituents and working families are her weapons.

I’ve been working on an independent documentary about her and will share details on where to watch when it’s finished in the spring…

She represents Democrats in the spirit of all the greats.,. FDR, LBJ… and she never stops fighting for the people she represents!

Thank you Steve, for what you do, for standing up so strong. I admire you. And thanks for turning me onto Tim. I subscribed. I put a comment after his essay and I will post it to you too. I hope this gets spread around.

There is something that the Democrats can do, and should do, right away. Under the next administration unions are going to be under attack and the formations of new unions is going to be much harder. I hope the leaders of the Democratic party will get on the stump and get leaders out there in the field to organize workers as much as possible in the next few months. I think this is something that will come to be recognized as helping "the people," the working class, as much as anything else that can be done at this time. Organization is what it's going to take to stop or slow down the juggernaut that is heading our way. Trump's very successful strategy is divide and conquer. We have to stick together.

Thanks.

Just watched the movie “Judas & the Black Messiah” about Fred Hampton & the Black Panthers. Highly recommend. Great story & now that I understand more about them, their ideas of organizing ALL of the poor, Black, Hispanics, & whites, to fight back against the wealthy & a govt that has been bought by the wealthy; I would have joined the Black Panthers.

J. Edgar Hoover’s FBI was terrible. Our govt has done some terrible things, & we must recognize that.
