I love dogs. Deeply. For me, life without them would be unimaginable. They teach us so much during their lives beside us, including, most importantly, about time.
There are people who enter our lives for a moment, a season or the rest of our days. Sadly, our dogs’ lives play out over a season of ours. We hold and cuddle them as puppies, and hold their heads in our laps when they are old and limping. They remind us that time is always passing, ticking away. Their lives are lived out within our own, and we see them grow strong and frail, while maintaining undiminished love and enthusiasm.
Some dogs have harder lives than others, but given a chance, most dogs are ready to love and be loved regardless of who brings them home. They see character not color, kindness not rancor, and gentleness not pettiness. Having no ambitions to live in a billion dollar house, they just want a spot in yours.
I always hate saying goodbye to my dogs, but I love coming home to them. That’s why when I heard the song “Like My Dog” it brought me so much happiness.
Jimmy Buffett wrote and sang it. It’s from his final album, “Equal Strain on All Parts, to be released on November 3, 2023. He’s gone now, but his legacy is deep. He lived an extraordinary American life. He pursued happiness and spread it. He served his country by loving it and its people. He loved it enough to sing to them, and make them smile with songs that touched something deep.
It’s important to remember that you can’t love your country and hate half the people in it. Interestingly, dogs don’t hate. They only love, so in that spirit, to all the many dog lovers in The Warning community from Teddy, Tucker, Lola, and Sophie, here are two great Jimmy Buffett songs to make you smile and think. Give your dog a pet from me. Enjoy!

Best words ever. I love all animals; people not so much. But my dog is the greatest gift for me, EVER (I don’t have kids)....:)
Cats are good, too. Anything with fur really.
