I've written several strongly-worded emails to my Senator Chuck Schumer. I've not gotten any responses, neither do I expect any.

Me too and no responses.

Steve, I felt your, not sure if it was anger or disgust, but I felt it and share it with you. It’s insane that we don’t have someone standing up and saying “ok, I’m taking the lead on this fight and this is what we’re going to do every single day of the fucking week!” A shadow cabinet? Yes! You are so spot on with this. Getting on television every day pointing out the lies and the incompetence. Yes! Pritzker is my Governor and I wish I had a direct line to him.

Chuck Schumer is a waste of a body in the senate and he’s only making it fucking worse as the days go by.

I just emailed Governor Beshear here in Kentucky and challenged him to speak up if he wants anymore of my hard earned cash for his campaigns in the future or now for his PAC.

Steve, I have been following you for years. But there is an epidemic of "failure of imagination." People who are still talking about winning mid-terms and having some Congressional power again underestimating what has happened. It's a blindness because we are so traumatized. Trump's coup has already resulted in a dictatorship. I've been telling all my friends and neighbors and relatives that Trump will quickly make moves to control the elections process so that we never have a free (or trusted) election again... an low and behold... today's news: "NPR - Federal election commissioner says Trump is trying to improperly remove her." He will find a way. It's a given. Don't think anything will stop this. No normal stuff like lawsuits, small protests, polls or anything we thought would work in the past will work. The entire American system has capitulated to this monster and he is now in charge of everything... The capital punishment Executive Order paves the way for complete human rights atrocities... read it. I read it and literally wept. He can send people to the American Gulag in Guantanamo Bay and they will just "disappear." This will happen. I see no way this won't happen at this point.

We are no longer free. Freedom to criticize your government without fear of retribution died on January 20, 2025. It's only going to get worse unless tens of millions of regular American's go to the streets and bring the country to a halt. And I mean TENS of millions of Americans. And since everyone is scared, there is no mobilization of this magnitude on the horizon. And people are scared if they participate, lives will be lost. And since this is likely true given 100% of what Trump said he would do is happening, he will absolutely implement the Insurrection Act and have the military involved in this type of civil unrest. So the fear suppresses further action by a traumatized public. And further we sink.

During the first 45 years of my life, I couldn't have seen this happening in our country. Not in a million years. But it has happened. And I saw the train wreck beginning 10 years ago when Trump entered the stage... It has become an astonishing reality. I am profoundly sad for my 15 and 20 year old sons. Everything I raised them on has been turned upside down. "Be kind to others. Be understanding. Do the right thing. Do your best. Goodness always prevails. Love prevails over hate." And now my sons only see all the psychopathic, narcissistic, sexual predatory, mean, cruel people with NO empathy or compassion for anyone or anything running the United States of America and claiming they won. What can I say to them? All I can say is that this is not normal. This is fascism. These are bad people. These are unhappy people. These are cruel people. But who do I point to who is a good person who is "winning?" Whew... we are in for a rough ride my fellow Americans.

Senator Schumer is an embarrassment to the democratic party.

Good points! Shadow cabinet. Ridicule. Continual reports of "Who is Trump's favorite?" Musk, who can't even grow a decent beard yet, can only lead children. Pied Piper? Young'uns, we need your snark!

There are many good resources. Watch Rachel. Join Indivisible, which has specific action-steps every day https://indivisible.org/ . People have been blocking streets. People have been protecting kids from ICE in schools. People have been putting themselves on the line, in organized in spontaneous actions. I believe this means more than the pronouncements of any pundit or pol. Who, in general, have been--in every sense--"late to the party."

Another masterful, much needed lesson in real politics for our dim-witted Democrat so-called leaders to ignore instead following Schmidt's eminently wise playbook. What sickens particularly and increasingly is the spinelessness of Senate Democrats in keeping Schumer in power. I expected more from my newly elected Senator Adam Schiff. Even he sounds tepid--at least he did in his recent interview on NPR. I voted for him because I thought he'd be a fighter against the madness Trump has brought on America. But he seems unwilling to call out Schumer publicly for his douchebaggery in wanting to lay down on the train tracks. Now is obviously not the time for timidity in confronting an over-the-hill Senate leader just because Schiff is the new guy and new guys aren't supposed to challenged uninspiring old farts who have powerful donors. If Schiff is more worried about proper Senate decorum or otherwise hesitant about taking on a tired old leader who is clearly unsuited for the urgent task at hand, it sounds like he's no better than Schumer.

I commented earlier that I wanted my governor to speak out. He did a bit here a few days ago. It is a thoughtful response and he clearly goes to bat for Kentucky. I think Andy is a legitimately nice guy, but I would like to see him "get down in the dirt' a bit more while staying true to his character and and speak out assertively and defend our constitution and rule of law.
