I don't know Steve personally. I understand how disappointed people are in him for his recent decision to work on the Dean Phillips campaign.

But, have you seen the polls?

I know the polls aren't the final word, and that they've been unreliable the past few years, but they're consistently showing that voters don't want a rematch, that the majority of voters believe Biden is too old, and that if the vote were held today, all the swing states would go for Trump resulting in his victory.

I think Joe Biden is an excellent president. I will definitely vote for him or whomever the democratic candidate turns out to be, but

In my estimation Steve is making a thoughtful and ballzy move. A move I'm sure he knew would evoke ire. But I respect him for seeing the big picture and putting his reputation on the line for our country.

The stakes are too high folks. We need to stop Trump. We need a Democrat who can win. If not Biden, or Phillips, then someone else.

It's time for the candidates to battle it out in the political arena. Perhaps then the Biden operatives will start aggressively broadcasting the President's many accomplishments.

Max, I appreciate and understand your viewpoint here. I feel, though, that the Dems are so weak on messaging that most people have almost no idea about what President Biden is doing for our country. I'm linking a recent article by Rick Wilson of the Lincoln Project about why we all must Unite behind Biden. It is worth reading and sharing. Thanks.

Lisa, thanks for your response and for the link to the article. I've read it and agree whole heartedly.

Biden was the first candidate IN MY LIFE that I actually voted FOR as a person I wanted for president rather than as a lesser of two evils.

He's gifted. He's compassionate. He's exceeded my expectations. I don't care that he's old.

The operative phrase for me from your reply is that the Dems are so bad at messaging. Amen. Dems need to get over that. I'm not saying that they need to resort to Roger Stone "ratf***"ing" (excuse my French), but they need to be aggressive and relentless at extolling Biden's accomplishments.

And they need to stomp Phillips. They need to dominate. "Biden is the best president since FDR and here's why." And then state the facts, which are there. And state the minutiae - in short bursts - that people don't typically hear about.

We're entering an existential war. Time for the Dems to wake up, suit up, and swing the longswords.

I hold the MSM equally, if no more so, responsible for Biden's lack of approval. Until recently, they never said negative things about Trump, but that's all they report about Biden. They harp about Biden's age, when Trump is only 2-3 years younger and in much worse physical and mental condition! They never talk about all the successful legislation that the Biden administration has passed, that is strengthening America's infrastructure, bringing mfg back along with good paying union jobs, reducing the cost of insulin and more to follow.. just to name a few.

If th American people were hearing this information as much as Biden's age and shouldn't he be replaced, that's what they would be thinking about!

And to Steve's points as to why people aren't rejecting Trump, I would point out that Trump NEVER DID ANYTHING TO HELP ANY OF THOSE PEOPLE, and neither has the Republican party!

Voters are being "brainwashed", not just by Fox, but by the entire print and TV media!

I have a problem with the rationale that Biden is too old, but Trump (just 3 years younger) is a viable candidate. Especially with Trump's recent screw-ups, like talking about beating Obama in his first election, not knowing what state he was in during his speech in that state, claiming he was busy saving America from China in 2021, his incessant babbling the same phrases mindlessly. Rupert Murdock is older than Biden and there are many other examples of men into their late 80's & 90's functioning well. Yes, I look forward to younger persons (esp. more women) going forward, but we are at a critical, existential point right now.

Trump is no more a viable candidate than Biden. That’s not the issue. The issue is which party has the best candidate to win in 2024. Right now, Biden is losing that battle, regardless of the fact that that he‘s only 3 yrs younger. Who in their right mind wants trump getting his filthy hands anywhere near the White House? Not me, and not many people who pay money to read this substack.

The problem with Biden is not how fit he his now. The problem is that no one can predict his medical, including intellectual capacities to lead the biggest economy in the world in the 4 years following a successful run at the presidency in 2024. Who remembers Reagan? I do, and it wasn’t pretty when in his last year, his mental state was in such decline that most decisions were taken by someone else. No country should be confronted with that in this day and age.

Marsha,

You are caught in a misinformation loop. Some of that misinformation is finding its way into the comments section of The Warning community. Here are the facts. I'm going to state this as simply as I can, and then will comment on it.

Harlan Crow gave a contribution of $2,800 to Dean Phillips in 2019. Here is one of the three ProPublica stories detailing the corrupt acts between Clarence Thomas and Harlan Crow that are deeply offensive and inappropriate:

https://www.propublica.org/article/clarence-thomas-scotus-undisclosed-luxury-travel-gifts-crow

These stories all came out in 2023. I have written forcefully about the corruption.

Trying to tie Dean Phillips to that is as dishonest as Kellyanne Conway on any given Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. It is wrong. The country is being overwhelmed by insanity and lies. Spreading the lies because it's your side doing it, doesn't mean it's not a lie.

I deeply respect the right of every American to speak out and express their views on any and every issue. Understanding Americans have this right is an elemental aspect of basic citizenship. Dissent and tolerance are necessary for the sustainment of freedom.

The attempt to indict the character of a person for an event that occurred before the information was revealed that unveiled the news of wrongdoing is the worst type of guilt by association. This is the type of insanity that explains why normal people are terrified to run for political office. What they are afraid of is people who are ill-informed, absolutely certain and willing to smear anybody at any time to be in good standing with the mob for the purposes of destruction in the name of democracy.

Who does that help? It helps Donald Trump. That's who it helps. The eradication of decency, normalcy and honesty is how we have arrived at this moment in time.

Harlan Crow is what I call a Rich Insider. He's an example of the corrupting power of special interests in our political system.

I'm not happy that Steve is in Crow's proximity, but I'm giving Steve the benefit of the doubt by invoking the ole chestnut, "politics makes strange bedfellows."

Steve Schmidt has put his finger on the biggest part of the biggest problem that we have in this country, and that is that people feel that their government is not helping them, and in fact is sometimes working against them. And, although they don't expect business to work for them, they used to expect business to treat them fairly. Not anymore.

And then along came a man who spent 15 years (I looked it up) 15 years acting as a hero on a fantasy television show that he controlled and in which he cast himself as a hero who understood everything and could sort out all problems and help everyone. Of course, that was a fantasy, but millions of people spent 15 years absorbing that message about that man. And millions of people are permanently convinced that he is fighting against the government and the business world that let them down. Of course, the evidence shows that he is a fraud, but people cling to the image that they accepted long ago, and, after all, no other superhero is fighting for them.

I believe every word you said. Trump and his henchmen, should he win, will gleefully punish anyone and everyone who dared oppose or expose him. And yet, he continues to somehow convince millions that he would be great for the country. It’s a constant worry in my household. I marvel at the lies he regularly gets away with. I have seriously considered moving to Canada to protect my family from his likely cruel and illegal misdeeds. My husband is an Army veteran. So is my father (but Navy), but dad despises Biden and practically worships Trump. I’m at a loss, to be perfectly honest. All of my siblings along with our father think Trump is a great leader, and while my father is not a college graduate, his 6 children are. I’m the only one who was educated away from our hometown. I believe that neither my dad or any of my siblings know how to think. Fox says it, good enough. We were bred with a hatred of Democrats. I’m the only one who revolted. What to do?

If Trump wins America will collapse. He will focus on what he always does. Himself and anyone he hates and wants to strike back at and attack. He will not give one damn about governing and helping Americans. His goons will focus on destroying every part of democracy that they are able to. And the great American democratic experiment will die at the hands of a sick old man and his goons who only cares about himself and themselves and those that kiss his rear end. And then even his supporters will see that they hitched their wagon to a self destructive sick old man who destroyed them and us and himself. It will get real ugly real fast all across America if Trump wins again. He never follows any rules and I fear, as he attacks others, no one else will follow any rules either as America collapses and fight back against him and the gang of thugs..........
