Thanks so much for these weekend roundups, Steve- I apparently get interrupted reading /listening more often than I realize, as I'm just now collecting the gold near the end of a couple of these!

The BIG miss came later in the week when Trump posted a video of a truck with its tailgate painted to look like President Biden was tied up and unconscious in the bed of the truck. As Joyce Vance said, "If you or I did this, the Secret Service would be on our doorstep within hours."

Trump is on pre-trial release in four criminal trials. He is free under his own "recognizance." It is well past time to revoke that discretion and order him jailed pending trial since he has demonstrated that he is a clear and imminent danger to judges, *judges' families*, prosecutors, witnesses, jury members, and anyone not MAGA. Bonus: Then he may rethink his strategy of delay at all cost.

Recently, my sister and I were reminiscing about our grandfather who would yell at the TV when watching the news. Last night I became Grandpa.

I was yelling back at Fareed Zakaria and Bill Maher on TV as they defended the NBC executive decision to hire Ronna McDaniel. They were conflating the backlash from the news anchors with general illiberalism on the left. I feel as strongly about liberal/progressive-purity stridency as they do, but the comparison here is nonsense. Ronna McDaniel isn't Liz Cheney or even the insufferable Ann Coulter (who at least serves up a dollop of intelligence with her trolling). Ronna is simply a one-dimensional Polly Parrot liar. She wouldn't provide the "conservative" counterpoint. Ronna could only offer a liar's argument, which would be a complete waste of time for serious news people and viewers alike.

I'm with you Gar. I watched that last night and that part was insufferable. Over the past several years, Mahrer has approached the rabbit hole that Dennis Miller dropped into after 9/11. Mahrer plays the victim card as well as anyone these days and has adopted a both sidesism mindset on his Real Time show. He often has conservative folks on, which is fine, but when they persist with outright lies, he gives them a pass, rarely pushing back. He's taken his "free speech is everything" stance too far, as if pushing back on bullshit and outright lies and misinformation is impinging someone's free speech (it's the same weak ass argument used for no real action on guns and the false protestations that anything done is a threat to people's 2A rights). This is why neither he nor Fareed Z get the whole thing and ROMNEY McDaniel, because they're both on air entertainers and personalities who don't want their ability to say what they want affected, so they defend everyone's, without differentiating opinion from outright lies. Steve has made a cogent argument for why ROMNEY McDaniel's hiring by NBC executives was dangerous and inappropriate. Mahrer and Zakaria were normalizing, defending, and justifying her very dangerous lies, just like others now blasting NBC are doing. I have no problem with valid conservative political counterpoints. She is far from representing that and unqualified to do so.

Another irritating part was in the initial interview with Jonathan Haidt when they were both bitching about the left's pushback on FL Gov. and failed POTUS candidate DeSantis signing into law denying anyone under 14 years old from being a social media account holder (among other provisions). They're saying that the ONLY reason anyone is pushing back on this is because it's DeSantis. Not a single word about anyone questioning whether or not this should be enforced by the government rather than parents.

So, although I wasn't yelling at the TV, on several occasions, I was certainly thinking, "WTF??".

For years we have allowed the nose of religion stick its nose under the tent of our diminishing democracy and If Mr Trump is reelected we may not deserve what we get, but we will get it with both nostrils.

Hmmmmm. Did NBC react with termination due to RRMC being a liar and insurrectionist? I for one, don’t fully agree on this slight nuance and watched Chuck Todd, Alex, Rachel, Lawrence, Jen, Joe and Mika go after their management hard and fast with corporate shame and authentic grievances. Yes, RRMC is everything you say Steve, but she’s not a compulsive liar, she’s a pathological liar like Lance Armstrong and Donald Trump , where exposure to cheating is involved and projects destruction onto others via threats. Chuck said it, “she gaslit and attacked NBC reporters” intentionally to cover up her cheating. NBC has cause to retract the offer because RRMC threatened their employees, and has recorded proof of creating a hostile environment for employees of the RNC.

There’s only one thing I have issue with; and it’s Welker. Her interviewing has got to improve. ❤️‍🩹

When you ask someone, “do you disagree with Trump”, and she doesn’t answer directly; Your follow-up should not be, “why not speak up earlier? Why now?” [rhetorical, she’s only answering now cause you’ve given her a platform to outwit u]. You factually state, “so you lied on November 11th to reporters, to the RNC, and to the voting public? “ The interview was weak, it seemed that the preparation was rehearsed, and once NBC had hired her, Welker had a real opportunity to go after the gaslighting and social media attacks against her colleagues.

Agree with others, my squirming watching Maher and Zakaria banter about this Hit/Miss NBC moment caused for a pause on the remote to stomach it. No one is debating that RRMC is a cheater and a liar, that’s factually proven, it’s her disregard for the law and lack of accountability. Her 15 minutes are up!

Has anyone read "Parliamentary America" by Maxwell Stearns? It was recommended by someone on Joyce Vance's Substack.

Hi Steve,

I’ve heard a little about byd the Chinese electric car maker. Their vehicles start at $11k. Detroit (or Tesla) does not have battery tech to compete with china. They make iPhone batteries as well. The writing is on the wall. The American auto industry can’t survive. Michigan is a pivotal state in the election and sometime this year or the next couple they will be on the scrap heap of history. Europe is now importing these vehicles and will probably take the market for low end cars there.

What can be done. 1. For climate change this is wonderful. 2. I would love to have an $11k electric vehicle 3. How can the US meet this threat to our economy- huge tariffs which hurt US consumers- hot war over Taiwan. Any ideas?

I have a question. I just heard a short interview with Jonah Goldberg about this issue. He said Ronna should never have been hired (because it was disrespectful to do that without asking for buy-in from the journalists) and also should never have been fired, because it just fuels MAGA and their cancel culture argument. And it goes further than just insurrectionists like Ronna, but he points out that Mick Mulvaney, not an insurrectionist, was also "cancelled" in a similar fashion at CBS. I'd point out that Mulvaney is at the very least a gross apologist and master misdirectionalist. Anyway, what do any of you think of this argument, bringing in the Mick Mulvaney case in to point out there are excesses to this integrity stand that "expose" an agenda beyond integrity? I'm just curious.
