This is Abraham Lincoln’s Thanksgiving proclamation from the year that the tide turned in the American Civil War. 1863 was a year of horror in America. This is what political optimism is. This is what leadership looks like. This is what grace is. As you celebrate this Thanksgiving weekend, be thankful for your country. I am grateful for the special community that we’ve created at The Warning. Thank YOU.
I would like to give public thanks to Steve Schmidt who has chosen to devote his energies and special gifts to saving our country from its enemies domestic and abroad. We live in a time of great danger, when our domestic enemies are especially numerous and vicious. Our public discourse is corrupted by lies and disinformation. A major political party is led by traitors who actively plan to destroy us. A corrupt Supreme Court aids and abets its vile agenda and a deeply evil propaganda machine amplifies and spreads its false message. Steve's voice is uniquely suited to illuminate this dark enemy, to warn us of the dangers confronting us and rouse us to action. We are blessed to have him. From all those who love our country, we thank you, Steve Schmidt.
Steve, Happy & Blessed Thanksgiving! After I emailed my annual Thanksgiving wishes to friends, one wrote back that this may be the last Thanksgiving we are free. My friend is gay, as am I. He went on to suggest that we might well be in concentration camps. I refuse to buy into his darkness. The more we spread such negativity, the more oxygen is given to Trump and his traitorous degenerates.
Lincoln's appeal may have more meaning today than on the day it was recited. Yet, such grandness in thought and in language seems to have disappeared. In place of eloquent dialog, we have been relegated mostly to sound bites. The heart and soul of true patriots is being bludgeoned by those who seek to destroy our republic. There is no immediate salve, but there must be an immediate push back. The enemy walks among us. We must be ever-vigilant as the enemy seeks to destroy us. Prayer alone will not stay or slay the beast.
The Confederates (vile though they were) were seeking another country. The current traitors are not about an idea. Their current MO is fealty to ONE MAN --an indicted criminal who seeks only his own interests.
Yet another remembrance of the greatness in heart and mind that was Lincoln. The many references to God are spiritually understandable in such a perilous time of war, though there's not a trace of theocracy in them. He was thankful for the miraculous work and order created by mortal Americans in the worst of times.
The tenor of that letter sounded very Lincolnesque, and I think Seward was heavily influenced by Lincoln, to the point he could write things on Lincoln's behalf and express at least partially the thoughts of Lincoln and in his manner of expression. If Lincoln did not dispute or publicly disparage the truths purported to be of Lincoln's own beliefs. then Lincoln must have not seen the need to do so.
I am a man of wide experience in many fields, and never have I seen the like of any human like Lincoln, neither in history or my own experience. I think of him as having some special knowledge and wisdom far beyond the spectrum of our species. The same can be said of Da Vinci quotient of intelligence and vision.. In that sense, I consider them both to be near--but not proven-- to a mutation and superior next stage of evolvement of mankind. Lincoln, for me, is a moralist , humanist, and moral genius, and his far-seeing mind and heart are so remarkable I can not comprehend it. It's the same as mankind has alwasy felt about DaVinci's scientific genius. The Mona Lisa is not a painting, per se, and great artists never call the Mona LIsa, or most of DaVinci's paintings. to be "paintings". They say that they are beyond the actual concerns of painting, and have some in them extra qualities no painter can achieve., That is how I feel about Lincoln. He is extra-extra-extraordinary in his grandioseness mentally and emotionally.
I am an atheist, yet I can see that there is a quality Somerset Maugh called GOODNESS in some men, and he says that that is the most desireable trait any human can have. Lincoln had it, and had it in bucketfuls. . That GOODNESS is as close to being holy as I can imagine. So, I used the term holy for him not to say he is a god, but that he is beyond the grasp of our species. He is heroic and epic, like the pagan gods .and yet , yet is mortal. Homer would have used him as as his model for Ulysses, or Virgil would have used him as the model for Aeneid.
Happy Thanksgiving, to you and your loved ones. I am grateful for my fellow Americans who will turn the present tide toward saving our democratic Republic. Thanks, Steve for your insightful observations.
I watched the Ukranians thanking those who have helped them. I sincerely hope our nation continues the assistance we are giving so that Democracy and freedom is extended to these people being tormented by Russias' president. To Ukraine, I say you're welcome.
I wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving, no matter where in the world you are.
Happy Thanksgiving to you, Steve, and to all of your loved ones! Thanks for all that you do to warn the people of what might be our future, if we don't wake up to the truth. Thank you for fighting for our democracy! Thank you for trying to bridge the gap between Democrats and the old GOP. Thank you, for your inspiring essays, they make me think!
Happy Thanksgiving to all of my new friends who send in their comments to "The Warning"! It's somehow comforting to know that I am not the only one feeling the way I do about America's future, and our future as well!
Happy Thanksgiving to all Americans who are fighting to save our democracy, our constitution, our values, and our freedoms and rights!
May we all find some peace in our hearts and in our lives!
Steve, Thank you for your generous words during this most difficult period in American politics. May you all continue to live in peace; I send my greetings to all for a Happy Thanksgiving and hope that the 🇺🇸 and 🇨🇦 will continue is long alliance and friendship.

I have been in love with Lincoln since childhood, and now am 81. No one on earth has ever been like him. He radiates wisdom.
I never saw this article which he wrote. Although I am an atheist, yet Lincoln would still respect me, I know for certain..
He embraced all peoples. He is something of a holy human being, and not of this earth.
Thank you, Mr. Schmidt.

what an eloquent recognition of the extraordinary nature of Lincoln
your awe at Lincoln's goodness moves me deeply
I join you in your impassioned tribute to our heroic President
Freud said immortality is being loved by many anonymous people
may every generation of Americans discover him anew
Your approval is welcome. You have the formal prefix of DR. May we know of it is awarded for medical or for philosophy achievement?
I disagree in toto, and with considerably more grace than you were able to muster on Thanksgiving.
Happy Thanksgiving, to you and your loved ones. I am grateful for my fellow Americans who will turn the present tide toward saving our democratic Republic. Thanks, Steve for your insightful observations.
