Kevin McCarthy is so pathetic that I would almost feel sorry for him, were it not for the fact that he lacks any moral fiber or integrity whatsoever. The contrast between Nancy Pelosi - the greatest Speaker of my lifetime - and the prospect of a worm like Kevin wielding that gavel is laughable.

Who will be speaker?

Who knows. But Kevin ain't it.

This circus is so disillusioning.

McCarthy does not deserve the Speakership and it is fitting he is not bestowed this honor.

More so, our Country does not deserve this nonsense. We are stained by this corruption, dishonor and dirty dealing. We are all cheapened by these antics.

So disrespectful to we, the American people!

When members went to the floor with popcorn we knew it would be bad. When McCarthy was claiming the Ds would leave and allow him to win- ( reported by Political Wire) well that’s not going to happen. Will six/ seven rational Rs join the Ds and support Jeffries, that could be interesting Not sure how this will play out but am sure there will be little sleep on the R side this evening.

I can picture Team Kev digging deep overnight searching for those crumbs of scandalous selfies to use as hopeful thumb screws to squeeze out that one pathetic hope of a vote

Can this country take much more of this insanity?

Great piece Steve. 🤣🤣

Stupendous accounting.

The Ship of Fools sails on.

The Ship of State is apparently in dry dock.

Steve,

Maybe this comes from my lack of understanding of the constitutional machinery at work, but your lack of accuracy in your color commentary of the political small ball at play seems glaring. All of the (albeit accurate) negative descriptors, adjectives, labels you’ve applied to the beleaguered would-be Republican speaker in recent days are apparently NOT the reason he can’t pass muster. It’s not because he’s -too- dishonest, craven, corrupt, spineless, amoral, etc... It’s that, by the measuring stick of the still serving (thwarted) congressional insurrectionist, McCarthy isn’t corrupt enough! (For the life of me I can’t understand why, in their judgement, the newly minted Conserva-kook representative from New York wouldn’t be PERFECT to fill the job). With current conservatives, the cookier, the nuttier, the more insane a candidate is, the truer he or she is to the constituent moral bedrock.

We’re not dealing with ordinary Republicans here. There’s a new conservative sherrif in town now and, by his way of think’in, what the job calls for is a solid man from the BellView hospital...not your fathers conservative.

McCarthy must have thought moving prematurely into the Speaker’s office would make it more difficult for some GOP to vote against him. How embarrassing when photos of his furniture and mementos being moved out pop up on (social) media.

Who then? Could it be someone worse?

McCarthy doesn't deserve the speaker ship, but the people not supporting him are not doing so because he's lacking in integrity; They are even more frightening and repulsive than he is. This is revealing how powerful a small Ultra right MAGA bunch of thugs can be. This trend terrifies me.

So humiliating to have to move all of his boxes from the Speaker’s suite back into his minority leader office.

Oh, Kevin: When you stand for nothing, why would any thinking person stand for YOU?

Really what an unmitigated mess the GOP continues to exhibit. Just exquisite. GOP theater of the absurd

on display with those traitorous actors. Despicable frauds one and all, in that bunch. I rather enjoy it!!

It’d be more amusing if it weren’t so pathetic

Powerful commentary and all TRUE! McCarthy really represents all that is bad about most Republican house members that are currently serving! It’s all about power, greed and self interest-not what is best for our country!

Is there something Democrats can do to get a few republics to vote for Jefferies? Democrats only need 6 votes and maybe the right wing of the Democratic party can find a few "lefties" in the Republicn part and change their vote! Has that ever happen before? Is there a precedence for it?
