I Thank You Steve Schmidt for telling the truth everyday .. The Warning tells me I am not alone in this horrible dark time in our history. I wanted Joe to step down from the begining. My sister and I talked about this from early on. He needed to step down and open up the race . I cannot forgive him or his wife..Nope I just can't . Now Platner needs step aside ..Please step aside .. Otherwise that horrible obnoxious witch is going to get in again. I read that the Bernie wing are yelling it has to be a progressive if he is to be replaced .. I want to say shut it ! Just get someone in there that can beat her and don't start fighting. angry in america

Mr. Schmidt, Everyone on this site appreciates what you have done in the fight against Trump and his "Christian" nationalist MAGA supporters and enablers. I found the following sentence in today's commentary interesting:

"We’ll continue to look beyond tomorrow’s headlines to explain the larger forces shaping our politics, our institutions and our democracy."

I think the problems confronting our nation are the same as those confronting all nations: environmental degradation, particularly climate change, the development of AI, and the threat of nuclear war. People in every nation take pride in their language, history, culture, values, and ideals. And that is fine. But the problems facing us are global and require global solutions which entails global cooperation. If humankind is to survive, we must avoid the extreme nationalism that claims one nation is superior to all others. We need to develop a global community and work on international solutions to our shared problems, to the threats, some existential that confront all nations. Our first allegiance must be to the whole of mankind.

I agree with you but I think first we have to get our country ontrack again. As it stands right now there is no way we can attempt any of the suggestions you make with the people controlling the reins of power.

I agree; that is why it is so important to get us back on track. We need to move toward a liberal democratic government capable of seeing our intimate ties to all the world's people and stop the bullying, hatred, and prejudice that are the hallmarks of Trumpism.

I’ve always enjoyed your political commentary. You had the chance to stay with a big network and opine for the TV cameras. But you saw danger and decided to jump into the fire and tell it like it is.

Your readers are indebted to you for your honesty, foresight and activism. You don’t only write and speak about rampant corruption and abuse of power, you are on the streets peacefully protesting with your fellow citizens.

Thank you so much!

We appreciate your honest and candid remarks/assessment about what we are enduring as Trump destroys our government and our democracy.

Still we fight on!

I was fortunate enough to visit Mount Vernon 25 years ago. It was a private reception and there was George Washington at the door greeting us. He was happy when I told him that I was from New Jersey. “Ah, New Jersey,” he said. “I know it well.”

The view from the backyard of Mount Vernon looks the same as when it was built, thanks to the efforts and donations of private individuals who preserved all the woodlands on the Potamac for as far as you can see. It looks the same as Washington knew it. There’s hope.

Thank you, Steve, great piece as always. I wish I had found you earlier but devoted to your calm sane analysis now. It means even more coming from your background of always taking the tougher higher road when your beliefs and ethics were challenged by the situation you were in. I admire you greatly and your writings carry important messages out of your history
