Women are pissed. This push toward the 1850s will never, and I mean never, win. We are not the noisy belligerent ones. We are the quiet, stealth ones. We will win this. I just know it.

I hope so.

Let's get out the vote.

FOR REAL. I'm so full of rage I packed up my family and moved out of Ohio to get away from the crazy. I don't know exactly what I will be called upon to do in the coming months, but I will fight tooth and nail to preserve my daughter's right to make decisions about her own body and ensure that NO PERSON OR STATE takes that away from her.

I sure hope so and I tend to believe so. If not for the female vote in Georgia a few years ago, a man who preyed on teenage girls would have been elected United States Senator. Men, unfortunately, are not up to the job when it comes to defeating zealots.

Excellent as always, Steve. Basically, one party is willing to destroy every tenet of American democracy and our institutions. They will abandon all of our Allie’s and destroy every semblance of the world order.

For what you ask? To appease the mango moron and world’s biggest crybaby and narcissistic kleptocrat. Why? Because they are a bunch of spineless hypocrites who disparage the tango terrorist behind his back, yet profess fealty; bending a knee in public.

This is why the entire party is a threat to the National Security and global interests of this nation. Ironically, they still suffer from delusions of grandeur; believing only their anointed on can fix it.

If that were true, all the nations ills could have been fixed in Trump’s first two years in office, when he had the house and senate. Yet, all he managed to do is cause chaos.

Yet, here we are: no wall was built, and Mexico didn’t pay for the 50 miles he managed to build, at a cost of two billion per mile, along the 2,300 mile southern border. I guess, mission accomplished!

His economy hummed for 3 years 1 month; inheriting a steady economy from Obama that grew for 7 years five months at over 2.5% a year.

He mismanaged the COVID epidemic, leading to an additional 500k needless deaths.

He added $8.2 trillion to the national debt in four years, increased the deficit from $536 billion to $1.88 trillion a year. Nothing to mention, the loss was f 7 million jobs, and increasing the unemployment rate from 4.7% to 6.7% when leaving office.

Additionally, he mangled the Afghanistan peace accord (Doha Agreement), releasing over 5,800 terrorists with American blood on their hands; handing the country over to our enemy, The Taliban.

He betrayed our Kurdish Allie’s in Syria. Threatened our Allie’s in Europe, and bent a knee to the world’s biggest threat to our western way of life (Putin).

And yet, the mango moron seems to be the best chance the lunatic party has to retake the presidency; which speaks volumes to the sanity of the GQP and their bench of future and current leaders.

Good times!…:)

Let's not forget Trump's 2016 campaign promise that Jarred and Ivanka would bring peace to the Middle East. Honestly, who ever thought Palestinian leaders would care about anything Jarred or Nepotism Barbie had to say? If Trumps claim were not so pathetic it would be hilarious.

I agree with the 4 but think there is a 5th. The criminal conviction of Trump. They would sway a number of votes, including some cultist. The likelihood of any of these cases ever being tried is evaporating with each passing day. The cases started too late(Merrick Garland sat on them for over a year). Garland’s timidness is such a sore spot for me. He was the wrong man at the wrong time but never was corrected.

A 6 possible fact is DeJoy staying on as Post Master General. He tried to sabotage the last election and again Biden’s failure to remove him before this coming election may prove fatal since Democrats rely heavily on mailed in ballots.

Trump’s delay delay delay tactic is succeeding.

Eric Klein, You are right in adding on factors 5 and 6.

It seemed to me that Merrick Garland could and should have indicted Trump at least by the fall of 2021. By waiting until the 2022 midterm elections were over (not to seem too political?) to do much of anything, he has thrown the federal case into the much bigger circus of the presidential election. But I am happy with his appointment of Jack Smith.

Expand full comment

Merrick Garland has left the hall! He now will have a long recovery for recent back surgery. He is a slow mover! Garland should have begun this long Trump legal list several years ago. He sure was not Biden’s best choice for AG. Actually, Garland has done so little and now the voters and country will suffer from his inaction. Maybe it is a good sign that Garland was never named to the Supreme Court? Definitely not up to speed! Too timid and retiring?

I would much rather he be on the Supreme Court than be Attorney General of the United States!

We the People unfortunately have no choice in either case!

I was not aware that Biden could fire him directly. I thought that was up to the Board of Governors of the Postal Service, who are appointed by the president with the advice and consent of the Senate. They serve 7 year terms, but there is no set term on the PM General. So, I may be incorrect, but my understanding was and is that Biden cannot remove DeJoy, the sole authority to do this is the Board.

Expand full comment

You are about the board. If Biden selected the members of the board then I sure he can oust him. I don’t believe the Senate confirms the PMG so I don’t believe they can prevent the firing. Right now the Dems, with Harris giving the tie breaking vote could have him fired and replaced him with someone more reliable

I’d like to have the understanding why this hasn’t happened explained

Because Biden can't. Period.

Thanks Eric. If you're "sure he can oust him", please provide the link. I can't find anything other than what I stated. Everything I saw online shows any president only does the Board of Governors (9 members, no more than 5 from either party), 7 year terms, can serve an additional 1 max waiting for a replacement to be nominated. The B of G controls the hiring/firing of the PMG, who is not a cabinet member. Please tell me how you're sure Biden can fire him. I prefer facts, not feelings or the R's repeatedly used "alternative facts". Support it with proof, don't just give me your opinion again. And don't get me wrong, I want Dejoy gone. But if it was as easy as Biden firing him, don't you think that would have happened?

Let's please not be lazy and do what the other side does and we complain about: provide their opinions as facts.

And to be clear, with the party restrictions in place, there are currently only 7 governors with two vacancies. TFG appointed two of the current members (both Rs). Biden the other 5 (3Ds, 1 R, and 1 Ind). TFG also nominated 5 others who are no longer on the Board (3Ds, 1 R, and 1 Ind). Their term is maxed at 7, but they don't have to serve that term. 2 left in December 2023 after being there only 3 1/2 years. So, it seems Biden could nominate/appoint 2 Ds to get that count to 5 since current composition is 3 Rs, 3 Ds, and 1 Ind.

I did research it and you are right about the board but not the senate involvement

Expand full comment

Thanks Eric. I only know that every site I saw about the postal board of governors referenced "advice and consent" of the Senate. Not sure how formal that process is. Either way, the two openings have only been for slightly more than a month, and they both can be filled with Ds, so definitely hopeful this happens relatively soon AND that the board decides to proceed with removal of DeJoy.

Expand full comment

Biden cannot fire DeJoy but can fill the two vacancies on the Board that can relieve DeJoy of his post! Another Biden oversight?

Expand full comment

"Another Biden oversight?" Seriously? It requires advice and consent of Senate and the 2 vacancies left just over a month ago. Personally, I don't know how long this process takes to normally replace them, but with the holiday break and other things, guessing expecting this done in a month by Congress is an unreasonable expectation. Get it done well before November and it will be fine. No need to imply Biden and his team aren't aware of this or on top of this.

Btw Biden can influence who is on the board. The republicans put on the board don’t have to be MAGA

I am 68. I carry an anger in me that is known to most women. It is the treatment and mistreatment by men who have been in our lives in one form or the other over the years. From the callous remarks, the sexual speak, the lower than a man pay, to the disrespect. Not all men, I know that, but many. So many things going on right now that tap into an anger I carry. This anger is not mean and does not lash out, maybe it should. What is happening to women now touches that anger I carry because it says you are not a worthy being.

A few days ago I heard some idiot talk about being a vet and having examined cows and other animals and because of this experience he was well versed in women and pregnancy. Heard this before when another talked about his years on the farm dealing with cows, so he understood women and reproductive care. Women are livestock.

That any woman would vote Republican is beyond me. I believe that if the women in this country would rise up saying no more and go into that voting booth to vote for themselves, it would change the current dynamic

I agree and I think we should also look beyond ourselves at the women in Gaza who are being forced to deliver their babies under circumstances none of us could possibly imagine - no clean water, hospitals demolished, etc. Some watch their children have their limbs amputated with no anesthesia. Listen to podcasts - Democracy Now, Ralph Nader Radio Hour (Feb. 10), Chris Hedges, to name a few.

Our mainstream media is very much one sided. We need to be in solidarity with all women.

The MAGA GOP is treasonous. The foot dragging by the Biden Administration, has put the nation in a perilous situation. Trump belongs in a maximum security holding somewhere without access to the media. The members of Congress who participated in the January 6th insurrection need to be indicted, convicted, and imprisoned for a minimum of 20 years, for sedition. Thank you Steve for this.

Yes, Richard. This slow and tedious pace is more destructive in many ways. It does not add confidence to the American people. I have believed in these institutions to protect me and mine from what is happening right now. I feel let down by so many leaders. Hi Steve, I agree with most of what you say, however my fear is that the orange monkey is going to, now with enablers, throw this upcoming election, into congress or to the SC. He has corrupted our electoral process, and this is why he must be thrown off each states ballots, but I doubt this will occur. I am a New Yorker and never did I ever think that a shill like trump would be able to do what he has done to this country. We woke up each day, as our parents and grandparents did, knowing we live in a democratic country. Now we have to fight to keep what was our birthright due to the fanaticism of his base, who have coward the GOP.

These events, if free-standing, could be managed or turned into American advantages, but the Republican MAGA party poisons everything, creates obstacles everywhere, a road forward with foot-deep potholes, almost impossible to traverse. They need to be politically eradicated at their roots. They cannot be allowed to hold power at their roots, in the ridiculous red states where they trample over their own people. Their obfuscation, their cruelty, their support of evil, their backing of fossil fuels, big pharma, gun manufacturers, their undercutting of health care and welfare and children, their war on women, their total and complete inability to govern. They show no sign of knowing what governing is. They have a lust for power and worship for the rich and an unquestioning adherence to the most evil American who ever lived. And worst, they have become Putin’s Party and could be the undoing of America and the world. This message, accompanied by all the positives of the Biden administration coupled with examples of mega MAGA intransigence has to be conveyed deep into the reddest of the red, at the most personal level, to start to break down the hold the Right has deep into its own nest. They must be crushed and replaced by a conservative movement committed to American growth and success for all of its people. That would be a worthy adversary as it once was. That is the challenge. To blow it is to blow everything…up!

We need to stop referring to Trump/MAGA as the GOP or the Republican Party. What is left of that former Party has been absorbed into the MAGA cult and no longer exists.

Understanding/acknowledging that fact is the first step toward building a new Party that honors the true traditional and conservative values of the former Republicans.
