“The AP should be ashamed. Julie Pace, executive editor, should be fired, and so should Steve Peoples. It is what would happen at a credible news organization, but of course a credible news organization wouldn’t have published such schlock to begin with.”

Thank you Steve. I was scratching my head when I heard this nonsense. 80k in NJ? Seriously? I know there is a big MAGA crowd in the state, several of my cousins (who I no longer speak to), are Trump supporters.

But 80k for Trump? When his message is as stale as his hair plugs? while the guy speaks in mixed word tongues that only the most enlightened MAGA conspirators and low information voters could understand, or disseminate? I don’t think so!

This truly is journalistic malpractice. The AP should be embarrassed at best, and proven to be cowardly fools, also a best case scenario. They are doing a disservice to all their viewership.

What the hell is going on? If Biden ever made a positive reference to Hannibal Lector (serial killer), he’d be crucified. I mean if it were Hannibal Barca, it would be one thing; he was one of the greatest generals ever. But LECTOR! Seriously!

This country truly is going to hell in a hand basket. And the lame-stream media is becoming a bunch of complicit idiots, whose time has come and gone.

This is what happens when corporations take over the news. Our republic suffers a death by 1,000 cuts! Fourth Estate my a**!

On a lighter note; Happy Mother’s Day to all….:)

Thank you Robert!! Very well said!! What was the actual number I wonder?? Geez. Unbelievable. I was gone all day so I'm playing catch up on all the news tonight.

Around 6-8 thousand…:)

Holy cow. Such liars. Just finished reading Steve's previous posts about the Lincoln Project. Unbelievable!! I'm in shock about the New York Times. Seems like more ugly revelations drop about them every day. I hope Steve knows we've got his back in all of this!!

Reuters and the AP have been on a long slide as sourcing info. It can't be this bad (wishful thought) as it would imply too, too many are in on the grift. And that is super-depressing.

Agree completely, I've considered them more reputable in the past than most, so this is disturbing

Just like the inauguration!! Me, me, me, me!!! He will never stop. We have to beat him so badly that, at last, he must GET THE MESSAGE!! #VoteBlue2024 !!

Fascism is based on fabrication, projection, and generalizations. Professor Ruth Ben Ghiat is one very enlightening voice giving us understanding of MAGA insanity.

Just divide by 10 from the number MAGA says and it will be closer to the truth. Anyone who has been to a High School football stadium can see that the attendance at that event is around 6-8k. Geeez🤦‍♂️

One thing Trump-MAGA has absolutely no use for and that is “truth”.

When I read Steve’s article, Leonard Cohen’s interview regarding Anthem came to mind… in 1992 Cohen said, “The future is no excuse for an abdication of your own personal responsibilities towards yourself and your job and your love. “Ring the bells that still can ring”: they’re few and far between but you can find them.”

Ever hear of drones? Newspapers should rent drones to fly over outdoor rallies and photograph the crowd. Afterwards the attendees can be accurately counted. QED.

If Trump is so popular in NJ, why isn't anyone showing up in nearby NYC to support him during his trial?

(Maybe Frank the troll has an answer for that).

Channeling Dr. Freud: For objective reality-detached Trump, crowd size is the talisman of his delusional manhood, the capaciousness of his cult member rally size being inversely proportional to his lonely, permanently attached corporeal member.

Steve, in this day and age of endless media, there ought to be a way to diminish the validity of such nonsense.

Whoa, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS! I saw and was reading about this New Jersey rally and was horrified at the numbers 80 to 100 thousand. I am familiar with the east coast beach resort areas and I couldn't imagine any area that could hold that many people. It was, to me, preposterous, and frightening to imagine that many people were supporting a rally. Omg, it was a complete CON. Thank you so much Steve for writing about it today. So important.

With MAGA it is always a con. They love their Con-man trump and he is a nothing but a degenerate, pathological liar. Please, don’t believe anything positive about Trump. It’s all nonsense.

On a good day, what is the maximum capacity for Wildwood? That's the first clue that the numbers were off. My husband thought too that perhaps Trump went to the crowd instead of the crowd coming to him.

It shouldn't surprise any of us that they can't count, they can't think for themselves, and they have probably never read the history of what happened to fascist Germany in 1933. I have to believe that the intelligent people of this country outweigh the dumb asses, if not then we are in deep dodo.

Expand full comment

Well, we have to especially outweigh them in 5 or 6 specific states. That we don't or may not is a growing concern every single day.

I was shocked at the mainstream news coverage of this rally - ABC and NBC as well - left out all the "crazy talk" (while focing on Biden mistaking a player for a coach at an WNBA WH event - like THAT's gonna harm democracy). I am astounded at the corrupt courts. The clueless media. One could argue, though, that this (rather than demoralizing the center left and never-Trumpers) could scare them into getitng to the polls.

Trump’s wannabe Nuremberg Rally. Should hold those stupid things at night with torches.

Desperate times, desperate measures. For 7yrs I posted this to everyone I could think of while it was all unfolding. Today, our country is in grave peril from a wannabe dictator and his moronic supporters, aided by groups with Fascist Christian Nationalist ideologies that are more educated & well funded. Using their useful idiot as the vehicle for their repugnant agenda. A domestic threat that has been systematically trying to destroy our Democracy for years. But since 2016 finally found a way to hasten their efforts through a cynical Congress and stacked courts. And the press of all institutions prepared to amplify this fucking idiot and bury a good man in Biden and the U.S. at a moments notice. What a shit show.

Expand full comment

“Using their useful idiot as the vehicle...” you said it in a nutshell. Trump will sign anything put in front of him if he’s flattered enough, and he has NO ideas or policies of his own. He ‘s a set-up.

As I remarked commenting on today’s Civil Discourse, he was a president in name only, who only sullied the office.

I have to admit, the crowd size that was given on the news made me scratch my head. The idea that first came to mind is, "oh man, this trial thing is helping him garnish more supporters." Then I read what the real size was and once again I'm disgusted with main stream media. It's so discouraging that accuracy is not a priority. So there you have it, if it's about trump it's probably false or an exaggeration never the truth.
