Professor Allen Lichtman, who has been correctly predicting Presidential elections for 40 years now, has predicted that Kamala Harris will be our next President.

As for the neo-Nazi’s like Tucker Carlson who hate the United States but love Chump — they can go fuck themselves.

Which is something my US Third Army Great Uncle, a liberator of Buchenwald, says from the grave.

Thank you, Josie. My Uncle Al.

I’m sure if my uncle Ernie were still alive and kicking ass in Detroit, he would say the same thing with perhaps a few more expletives. 😆

My own uncle was also involved in liberating Buchenwald. He passed away in 1988. At least he was spared the present day travesty.

Where is the outrage from the Republicans about being lied to? The Republican party must not have any shame or principles left because we are hearing crickets from the right.

It is amazing to me that the race is still close. Kamala Harris has the endorsement of Dick Cheney and Liz Cheney and who does Donald have endorsements from Vladimir Putin and Viktor Orban. We need to get the Odd couple "Dick Cheney and Bernie Sanders" in a new ad for Kamala. It would be perfect with the theme song of the movie playing in the background.

Yes!!!

Agree completely about an ad featuring Bernie and Dick!

It's like who knew almost half of this country were idiots, morons and racists? I thought most had died off by 2016, boy was I wrong!

Expand full comment

According to every poll I've seen in the last two weeks, the race is a statistical "dead heat."

And so I would like to know if everything is "crashing down," and has been by many accounts for weeks now, how is the freaking race supposedly so freaking close?

Trump and Vance have been digging deeper and deeper holes for themselves each day, including with Evangelicals. So how is the race supposedly so freaking close?

Trump has been campaigning like a tired snail for weeks now, so how is the race supposedly so freaking close?

If 67% of Americans believe Roe should not have been overturned, how is the race supposedly so freaking close?

By far, more prominent Republicans than any other time in history have come out against the Republican nominee. So why is the race supposedly so freaking close?

Even though the Electoral College is the absolute scourge of democracy, I still don't get it

Expand full comment

Good questions. I think the answer lies with the Electoral College. The reality is, only people voting in the seven swing states matter to pollsters and predictors. The rest of the electorate is chopped liver. And I would say because of the swing states, things are close. In North Carolina, for example, Chump has a slight lead.

Expand full comment

Four things would vastly improve--some might even say SAVE--this country.

1. Electoral College...like way the fuck out of here!

2. Supreme Court...expand to 15. Like, right the fuck away.

3. No more same number of Senators for states such as California as compared to states with more cattle than people.

4. US Constitution...definite rewrite. Muzzle loaders vs assault rifles. Voting only for white male property owners? The list goes on and on and on...

Expand full comment

Yep. The Electoral College was created as a system for vote counting in the Slave Era, when slaves counted as 3/5 a person. The fact that it remains to this day is a National Disgrace.

Expand full comment

Yup. I travel a lot. Informed people in other countries laugh at the Electoral College. I mean many of them physically laugh. Then they ask what the heck is it EXACTLY, and why do we have it. Then they laugh at me.

is things like this in our constitution that drive me MAD ...we still vote like this even though our country is no where the same. BUT because this works for Republicans it must stay exactly the same as outlined ...

But shit like 2 A..oh no..that changes with the times

get as many guns as you like

any Kind ..How we vote ...NEVER changes to meet the Times

But Guns do .

Clarence "The Trump Chump" Thomas is such a Constitutional originalist. Yet by that account he shouldn't be able to vote let alone sit on the Supreme Court. And he'd have to find a MUCH darker-skinned wife than the insurrectionist sympathizer one he has now. That's fact, not racism.

Expand full comment

Originalism is such a joke. The word “corporation” does not exist in the Constitution. There is not even anything close to matching it. Nothing. Yet the originalists gave corporations Constitutional rights and thus we are flooded with dark, evil money in politics. Remember when Obama said this would happen and there was Alito shaking his head no. Such a scumbag Alito is.

When 7-10 states

out of 50

decide who is going to win the presidency ..THAT IS FUCKED UP .

its not like they can't control who wins in their state / for Senate and congress.

ANd they do that vote by one person one vote .

this convoluted way we vote for President SUCKS ..its not right . it makes people like me in New York feel like MY vote really doesn;t count .

as long as the Trump rally goers in the swing states decide. Fuck that shit

Expand full comment

I appreciate where you're coming from and agree in theory. In reality, none of this is going to change anytime soon. 1, 3, and 4 require Constitutional amendments which would never pass Congress (2/3's in each chamber), let alone get ratified by the states (75%).

#2 solves the problem only for the term of the POTUS you support is in power. When the other side wins, they would just continue to expand/pack the court. I fear it would never end. And really all your accomplishing is proving the court is politicized and aligned with a given party in power at the time. Yes, that's what it is now, but the immediate short-term fix doesn't honestly help because it doesn't fix anything. And yes, we all understand TFG/McConnell stole 2 seats.

And I whole-heartedly get the frustration, but it's energy that's needed to help Kamala win, yet none of these things will do that in the next 60 days.

Expand full comment

Hey, no shit. None of that stuff is ever going to change. Ever.

I suppose my point is Trump might be right about America being a craphole. Especially when you consider the vast number of the electorate who despite what's blatantly right in front of their face are nevertheless backing (and in many cases outright worshipping) an obviously dangerous, mentally ill, evil fake messiah. And that's on his best day. TENS OF MILLIONS!

And speaking of MAGAts infecting our country--and who will continue to do so no matter who wins--if all the positive vibes end up amounting to anything like what's happeniung in the polls right now, a craphole will seem like Heaven. Imagine being nostlgic for a MAGAt-infected craphole.

Frustration, sure. Reality, you betcha!

All the other answers to your question here are just excuses, in my view. The true answer is that half this country’s electorate is stupid, hateful, and/or willfully ignorant.

Great commentary today Steve!! What a week. From Trump saying he had a right to interfere in the Election to Mark Levan to his incomprehensible word salad at the Economic Club to his finally (barely) admitting he lost in 2020 it has been something else!! And everything else along the way... Glad it's finally over!! TGIF.

Least it ended on a high note with the endorsement by Liz and Dick Cheney. Yay!!! Now if George Bush would hurry up. Another great #SchmidtStorm. Thank you. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!!! 60 days to go. 💙🇺🇸💙

At the Economic Club of New York, Trump proved that he is abysmally ignorant of how the economy and taxes work. In an incredibly incoherent, inaccurate, and rambling message to the Club, responding to a question about his views on child care, Trump said:

"But I think when you talk about the kind of numbers that I’m talking about, that — because child care is child care. It’s, couldn’t — you know, it’s something, you have to have it. In this country, you have to have it.

But when you talk about those numbers compared to the kind of numbers that I’m talking about by taxing foreign nations at levels that they’re not used to but they’ll get used to it very quickly. And it’s not going to stop them from doing business with us, but they’ll have a very substantial tax when they send product into our country."

The Dems and their Never Trump partners in crime must find a way to reach the 50 million low-zero info voters. The amount of material available to bury Trump could fill the Grand Canyon, but the public must know about it. Maybe Taylor Swift is the answer. How about Patrick Mahomes or Lebron James. Left leaning, non-MAGA internet influencers could also be an asset. Whoever. It must be done.

Yessss!! This kicks ass!! And DONALD TRUMP is full of shit. This is NOT a failing nation. Not now. But it WILL be if the American public pulls the trigger on the gun it’s been holding to its collective head for 9 Trumpified horrible anxious outrageous and enraging years. FUCK THIS GUY. And the beyond weird JDVANCE. Or whatever the fuck his name is today. I’m so sick of these people being up in our faces. And now Donald Trump is telling the House to SHUT DOWN THE GOVERNMENT next week. And he got another PASS from Juan Merchan today. I want this man OUT OF OUR FACES. Let’s landslide his ass.

I just heard the news that Dick Chaney has announced that he will be voting for Kamala Harris. I believe that this might very well be the beginning of a Government of National Salvation for the next four years. On one side we have together both the Republican and Democratic parties standing for continuing the American experiment with democracy which stands for the rule of law under the Constitution; on the other side a cult of a wanna be dictator. It is good that our traditional political parties are okay with providing refuge to each other when a totalitarian threat appears from external or internal entities.

So help me- i respect Liz Chaney and was not surprised when she said she would vote for Harris because she has a brain. But i said to husband..”Great! Now when she tells us her father is voting for harris, we’ll have something. So hooray!

George W and Laura Bush next please.

So far i am very disappointed with Larry Hogan. Oh i wouldn’t vote for him even if he did came out and say he’d vote for Harris, but i’d like it if he regained his self respect.

Also disappointed with Kemp as Trump prepares to rape his state. I guess Raffensperger got cut out of the loop. It’s not worth it Gov Kemp; history will not be kind. Pull yourself together and do the right thing.

Then some of the apolitical military- especially general kelly. Keith kellogg.

Pence has already. shown courage when he counted the votes on January 6. Why doesn't he endorse Harris now??

My father was one of the liberators of Dachau in April 1945. Were he here today, he would stand up and say “Thank you!” to Steve Schmidt and all the others who are blowing the whistle on the neo-Nazis in our midst today. God save America from a Nazi revival in this century.

Mr. Schmidt always has a new, insightful phrase in his commentary. I was struck by the image of "a crazy person and a powerful lobby" meeting at the schoolhouse door. Until we show the will to break up these meetings, we'll be living in J.D. Vance's MAGAstan. We have an opportunity to show that will on 5 November. Vote Blue.

We need to make the public aware of Trump's continuing mental decline. In an interview, billed as a "town hall," conducucted by his pal Hannity, Trump said this:

“He’s a weird guy. JD is not weird. He’s a solid rock. I happen to be a very solid rock. We’re not weird. We’re other things perhaps, but we’re not weird. But he is a weird guy. He walks on the stage. There’s something wrong with that guy.”

WOW! Where have we heard "weird" applied to candidates earlier in this election? Trump said Vance is a "solid rock." He forgot the word head at the end, a "solid rock head."

Anything is bound to happen in this election cycle. It'll be down to the wire, but I think Harris pulls it off with the women vote. If that is the case, I fully expect someone from the MAGA family will lash out and try to do something sinister. Maybe hold some election workers against their will while they count votes. But don't kid yourself, trump, if he is in good shape, will always try to get reelected. Let's just hope he's not capable of mounting a charge.

Should Harris get elected there are those folks in the banking/stock market/hedge funds who will use the election to create problems for the new administration. Harris just needs to counter with the help of previous democratic leaders Paul Krugman and Ben Bernanke.

Let's hope the democrats get control of the House and Senate. Cause if they don't nothing will get done for two years and that means no abortion ban removal. But Harris will be in a position to do some good stuff.
