I want trump to enact asap every heinous and cruel thing he has planned. I’m still upset that more than 70 million people voted for this lying, evil, grifting clown of a person. I am certain America is the laughing stock of the free world. What country would elect the leader of their nation who is someone no sane parent would want their child to emulate? I say bring it on. I have the popcorn.

We’re all going to be profoundly affected and demoralized. We aren’t going to feel like eating popcorn. The 70 million have grabbed us by the neck and are pulling us down into the abyss with them. People we know are going to be hurt and terrorized. Diseases, heretofore eradicated, are going to make a big comeback. Pertussis and measles are already on the rise. People will die. Our savings will be trampled. We might not be able to afford a lot of popcorn. I’m with Steve. I’m fucking pissed. Steve has called the shots on this travesty all the way down the line. From the moment that Joe Biden reversed his position and decided to run again, filled with hubris and wishcasting. Now we’re all gonna get it. Chuck Schumer makes me sick. We need to go through the fire and build a BETTER alternative. I’m also fucking pissed at my fellow Americans for being sucked into a morass of bullshit by some dude that wears makeup and is an abysmal human being. Watching Qusay yelling out on Fox News is nauseating.

We’re on the ride now. Buckled in and it’s too late to get off.

Completely agree. (I don’t know if you can tell, but I recently changed my profile picture to my avatar eating popcorn.)

I am in shock that anyone except a few greedy billionaires like Elon Musk would vote for this evil excuse for a human. He’s quickly catching up to Hitler with his heinous plans for this country ! The fact that the richest man in the World is partnering with him is even more disgusting! Their evil plans to destroy the middle and working classes are beyond dispicable! How sad that with the help of right wing media like Fox they have brainwashed millions of Americans into voting against their own best interests! They actually believed that Trump cared about them! Trump doesn’t give a DAMN about anyone but Trump. He’s tricked his voters into shooting themselves in the foot! He’s going to do his best to get as much for himself as he can while he and his fellow republicans turn this country into a Piggy Bank for Themselves. They don’t have to worry about health care loss or Social Security. Where donyou suppose all the Social Security Money will disappear to? We can’t sit on our hands, we need to put Trump in prison where he belongs like any other Ordinary citizen.

You're too kind and generous in your remarks over Trump. I do think that he deserves somewhat more derogatory comments, but yours will do for the moment.

Firstly, everyone should ban watching the inauguration - I hope he gets the lowest ratings ever. I know this shitbag deserves it. Secondly, I’ve said this time and time again, Trump is an idiot.. someone who has had 6 business bankruptcies, has to be a fucking moron. If he can’t keep businesses afloat, what makes ppl think he can run a country? It’s that simple! He will run our economy into the ground. Thirdly, he’s a petty, insecure little brat. Trumps 2nd team will be a retribution tour, and many will suffer bc of it.

You’re right again Steve. America will heal, in time. I just don’t know long it will take.

Speaking of the inauguration, what the hell is the point of the oath of office? He and congressional Republicans have felt free to ignore it.

Expand full comment

Exactly. He isn’t qualified anyway! He’s an adjudicated insurrectionist. He also won’t sign the ethics oath.. so why TF should there be an inauguration.. just crown the mf and call it a day

I wish there was a way to defer the inauguration until he signs all the paperwork!

Expand full comment

He won’t sign the ethics oath? Then he should be refused the office, but he probably hasn’t a clue what ethics are, it’s obvious that he has NONE.

Expand full comment

As we're finding out, there are no enforcement mechanisms for all the paperwork he is supposed to fill out and sign. This is just another middle finger to "the establishment."

Expand full comment

The first time around, many of his inflamed reactions wanting to punish people were mitigated by saner people around him, more like parenting than professional advisement. Not even in office yet, he has gained so much discretionary power that he will not be challenged but instead will be fully backed by people he is choosing to comply fully. The beast in each will be quickened. Trump is petchulant, emotionally immature, and spoiled. When disagreed with in the slightest, he reacts with furious anger. He suffers a neon narcissism and he preens with a galling gleaming when his vanity bursts into fill bloom, which he nurses. He thinks his piques are part of his charm. The closest comparisons I can think of are Nero or Caligula. We have reached a nightmare reality where spontaneous circumstances will create landmines in the paths of many people. We will be governed by a man routinely inflicting pain by errant impulses, and his crowds will roar like in an ancient arena until they are themselves sickened by the malignantly cruel excesses. We must all fight back hard, but wisely.

The sad thing is, their messaging resonates very well within the MAGA/far right ecosystem and echo chambers, so many of his supporters don't know this and believe him to be a great businessman. They simply don't know the facts, but in true authoritarian playbook implementation, he has effectively told them over and over and they are now convinced that the only truth comes from Trump. So, in this fucked up alternative world, he's great, was the victim of multiple DOJ witch hunts, a great businessman, and honest. How in the hell that circle is squared is beyond comprehension for those of us residing in reality?

Hundreds of us should drive SUV’s very slowly, staying together as funeral processions do, through the streets of DC.

Thousands should attend the outskirts of the inauguration in mourning clothes. Women in black vails, men with a ripped garment or cut tie, (just to cover all the bases), slowly walking along, dejected, grieving, hankies in hand.

And when Trump puts his hand on the Bible, (if he isn’t struck by lightning on the spot), there should be a low, loud groan from the masses of funeral goers.

I firmly believe that the only way to conquer MAGA is for its adherents to suffer under Trump. (Of course, this will require us to suffer as well.)

Remember how some said “Oh don’t worry. His first term wasn’t that bad.“ Well, that was because of “adults in the room” who thwarted his worst instincts. Democrats SHOULD NOT play that role this time. MAGATs need to experience the consequences of the policies they voted for if they are to learn.

I agree Ron. That said, it wasn't just democrats who were the adults in the room. Some of his cabinet helped - and warned this time around. What was it, 40 of 44 of his closest administration would not endorse him? The other concern is their effective lying, ahem, messaging. Anything that goes to shit will just be blamed on the democrats or specifically Biden and Harris. He said he likes the poorly educated and that wasn't by mistake. If they have been so ill-informed and clueless for 9 years, not so sure that they're going to magically wake up and see the impact of their votes. These are the same people who said Obamacare is awful, but the Affordable Care Act helps many people and is necessary. You can't make this up.

Somehow Trump has it in his little brain that tariffs will result in the American consumer choosing to buy "American" made products. What everyday consumer products does the average American consumer purchase that aren't manufactured in China or elsewhere?

Answer: Nothing, American consumers love cheap crap that floods in from China and the tariffs will not change that in any respect. I like Steve when he's pissed....I am as well

Expand full comment

Damn, Steve, couldn't agree more. I would like to add some color to your thoughts, though. Essentially, we should remind ourselves that Trump is more than an instigator, but a result of over 50 years of American decline. Let's remember

1. Watergate, and the genesis of erosion of the faith in American institutions

2. Businesses deciding that their short-term profits could be enhanced by moving factories overseas, where they could find cheap labor, the absence of unions, and few health, safety and environmental regulations

3. Inflation, which the created the need for dual working families (or more), to maintain a fabricated standard of living. By the way, the good manufacturing jobs are no more.

4. Trickledown economics, leading to Federal deficits, Federal debt, and the increased delta between the financial elite and working/middle classes.

5. The advent of financial gamesmanship and the casino economy.

6. The war in Iraq, instigated under false pretenses.

7. The recession of 2008, when the financial economy collapsed.

8. The acceptance of the legitimacy of ultra-right organizations.

9. The incompetency of Trump I, Covid, and the intensification of American polarization

10. And the return of Trump after 4 years of turbulence, real and generated.

There are more issues that have created our current plight. We are in a hot mess, past events have put us in this predicament, and they will not go away until we as a society can soberly and truthfully come to the realization that we are on the wrong path. I've quit praying for redemption and justice - now I pray for mercy and forgiveness.

I have heard that Trump will issue a national emergency on day one. What with the tarrifs and possible military action, do you think this could happen? The vast majority of Democrats have NOT called for defunding the police. A few on the far left have, in reaction to the obvious structural racism all too common in police departments across the nation. Of course, it is an unrealistic solution to a real problem. The solution is to end qualified immunity for crimes committed by police in the performance of their duties and to fire individual officers who exhibit obvious racism.

"Republicans have spent the past two years accusing Democrats of trying to defund police departments. But the facts show that the police have not been defunded. In fact, not only have Democrats put more money into policing since fiscal year 2019, but they also spend more on policing than Republican-run cities. Here are the facts that disprove this myth:"

For the facts, click: https://www.americanprogressaction.org/article/defund-police-myth/

We need to learn that poor nations around the world need to share more fully and fairly in the wealth they produce. If Americans need to scale back on their indulgence to create a more just and stable world economy, we will benefit in the long run.

Jesus, can no one else see it?

Knowing people say Americans chose "Lies over truth; Ignorance over knowledge; Chaos over order," etc.

All true, of course, but that's not what tipped the scales in Trump's favor: in a nation with, what, 5,000 TV channels, at least a million social-interaction websites, podcasts around every corner, etc.—what you have with all that is a nation of people who NEED TO BE ENTERTAINED, 24/7; and like it or not, with his outrageous cabinet picks, phantasmagorical lies, and ad infinitum, Trump is, in fact, FAR MORE ENTERTAINING than Kamala Harris could ever be! THAT'S why millions of morons voted for him—people who can't even SPELL "chaos", let alone recognize it when it eventually destroys their lives (see: Germany: 1933 and beyond).

Which is exactly why the corporate media—in particular, the far-right rag known as the New York Times (corporate motto: "All the News that Makes us Rich")—promoted the hell out of Trump: because they knew he'd attract far more eyeballs than Kamala ever could; and more eyeballs mean higher ad revenues.

It's like former CBS CEO Les Moonves told us, after Trump won in 2016: "He may be terrible for the country, but he's great for us (for our ratings)!"

I mean, who'd you like to have YOUR money on: the number of people who tune in to watch Stephen Miller and Tom Homan drag people off to their newly-built concentration camps, or the number who tune in to watch Kamala Harris fix a bridge?!

Naturally, these entertainment-starved morons will never ADMIT that's why they voted for Trump; even their lizard brains know that would make them look like the dumbest people to ever walk the Earth. Instead, they'll tell you: "I voted for Trump because I 'like his policies'". Of course, when you ask them which of those policies they like the most, all you get is a deer-in-the-headlights look. But it doesn't matter: they "like his policies"!

Look: like it or not, the guy was a reality TV star: I mean, you don't stay on the air for 14 years if you're NOT a star! And while we'll never know what else he learned from Mark Burnett (the creator of "The Apprentice"), the one thing he did learn was the importance of PUTTING ON A SHOW, which is exactly what Trump did during his first presidency and is already doing for his second one.

Which explains, if nothing else, why he didn't stop the riots on January 6th: because WHO STOPS A GOOD SHOW?!

Did people get maimed and killed on that "show"? Of course! But so what? To paraphrase Shakespeare: "The show's the thing"—and TRUMP KNOWS IT!

So, could we please stop over-analyzing this defeat? Was it due to racism, misogyny, nonstop lies? Of course. But all those pale in comparison to the real reason millions of American voted for DJT: THEY KNEW HE'D ENTERTAIN THEM!

Pathetic?

Check!

Reality?

Ditto!
