American politics is often ugly, brutal and depressing. It is a vocation filled with frauds, narcissists and disordered personalities.
When most Americans think about the condition of our culture — the meanness, vituperation, lying, self-dealing, self-importance and corruption — it makes them feel something along a depressing scale from anger to apathy.
The American media has foisted the Trump weirdos on the country for a decade. A legion of extremists, including Kristi Noem, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Lauren Boebert, Lindsey Graham, Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, Matt Gaetz and a thousand others, denigrated everything they touched with their cynicism, idiocy, incompetence and arrogance. Together, they became the apostles of a conman and demagogue who was the most faithless president in American history.
Last night, the American people saw a portrait of decency, dignity, humanity and NORMALCY.
The choice is at hand. Our values are being tested because they are under assault. When Michelle Obama talked about her upbringing, her mother, her values and our obligations it was a transcendent moment.
Last night showcased the magnificence and beauty of American politics, which has no shortage of transcendent moments.
Last night, there were several. The trio of Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, First Lady Michelle Obama and President Obama was electrifying. Together, they stirred the American soul. Together, they framed the stakes, and introduced the woman who has been tapped by destiny’s hand to raise her hand and take the oath prescribed by our founding fathers and sworn by Washington, Lincoln and FDR.
Something is building.
The breaking of the dawn brings new possibilities. The night yields. It is yielding now.
There will be a great struggle ahead, but there is nothing better for an American than being involved in a worthy cause and a good fight.
Let’s fight for America.

My conversation with David Pakman
Yesterday, I joined my friend David on “The David Pakman Show,” something I always enjoy doing. We discussed the changing dynamics of the presidential race, the first day of the Democratic National Convention, Donald Trump’s best strategy at this point, the selection of JD Vance as Trump’s running mate, and much more…
I encourage you to subscribe to David’s YouTube channel here.
Reading Steve's post and listening to his discussion with Pakman brought two important considerations to mind.
In campaigning Democrats should continuously reference the naked ambition of , "Kristi Noem, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Lauren Boebert, Lindsey Graham, Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, Matt Gaetz and a thousand others." These are people who put personal ambition above patriotism, people who worshiped a false idol fully aware of how dangerous he is. We must not only defeat the "Chosen One," but give the Harris/ Walz administration a solid majority in Congress so that we can begin to undo the damage that has been done to our judicial system and values by the Trump administration. The contrast between Biden's selflessness and Trump's all-consuming ego should be always up front in Democratic campaigning at all levels.
Secondly, as Steve said, we need to constantly remind Americans of the ludicrous people Trump surrounds himself with. Talk about how crazy they are: Mike Flynn, Mike Lindell, Roger Stone, Steve Bannon, Alex Jones, Rudy Giuliani, Sydney Powell et. al.
> "....the woman who has been tapped by destiny’s hand to raise her hand and take the oath prescribed by our founding fathers..."
Yes, that's her! Let's make sure that destiny is attained.
