The fact is that there is clear evidence to those of us with ears and a brain, as well as professionals, who view Trump as someone who exhibits signs of dementia. His circular, repetitive gibberish that describe his verbal skills is shockingly devoid of any substance or meaning. He hurls invectives and uses simple words to say nothing. His supporters, themselves, who lack any critical thinking skills, get caught up in his b.s. I ask anyone who disputes these observations to just listen closely to Trump answer questions of reporters. It is alarming in the utter lack of content and use of sophisticated language.

When Jacinda Ardern, former PM of New Zealand, was asked about factors that made New Zealand democracy work, she answered: “No Murdoch media.” Is there no way to deal with irresponsible journalists? These WSJ writers are active participants in the destruction of our democracy. There’s no Edward R Murrow.

Wow. That's impressive.

“The reporters who wrote this, and the editors who approved it, should be embarrassed.”

Come on Steve, you know better than most, there is no bottom too deep, or accusation too mind-bending for Murdoch, and his mighty band of unscrupulous journalists; if you can call them that.

Murdoch is the king of tabloid journalism, and has no ethics whatsoever. He spied on the Royals illegally, as well as many celebrities through his multiple publications in Great Britain; which make the National Enquirer seem like a Pulitzer Prize News organization.

Fox just paid over $786 million in a defamation lawsuit, with additional “stop the steal” lawsuits in the process.

I mean seriously, the op-ed writers at the WSJ, and the “know-nothing pundits at Fox, collectively, couldn’t find the ocean of they were standing on the beach. Yes, they’re that useless.

Bottom line: Even Australia is embarrassed Murdoch was born there…..:)

I just noticed your comment about Australia after I posted my comment. Murdoch has done so much damage on three continents.

Agreed, but it’s really not the point. Tell me any legitimate News organization that ever settled a lawsuit for almost a billion dollars? And the Dominion case was the first of many more litigations to come.

Fox may be (I’m being generous here) one step up from InfoWars, and at least five steps behind The National Inquirer…:)

Send this to “Letters to Editor” at WSJ…..please!

Thanks again for speaking the truth. As informed citizens we all have an obligation to do the same. We must call out,the Murdoch swill

Dishonest garbage it is and the harsh truth is that it is harmful and damaging as some people will actually believe it.

Our free speech and unaccountability by the free (lying) press that lies like David Pecker in National Enquirer level is foundationally anti-Ben Franklin.

It's all about power and money over sovereignty and security. Transactional vs. stability.

Our democracy hangs on the edge with these liars gilded with "it's never enough money" green glasses.

Reagan's "Fairness Doctrine" revocation started this. It's not about who gets to have free speech, but that they lie with impunity and the general public have limited resources and time to refute and learn truths buried in the sea of lies.

I woke up today thinking we need someone totally WOKE to sort out and expose all of the lying bullshit that has been occupying our politics of today. It reminds me of what Steve is saying that we need a special politician that can speak through the noise - the truth that is undisputable. I semi joke about using AI to get ahead of the curve of the lying, but I know the bad guys are the ones using AI to confuse and manipulate (always one step ahead). The bad word WOKE - bad guys want people to be SLEEP. It's a lullaby of bullshit. If one is halfway aware, it is frustrating to watch a lie get so much belief and penetration into our society.

We actually had one in Doug Jones from Alabama. He is a crusader, brought justice to one of the murderers of the precious four little girls at the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham. He is a true man of integrity who only got elected in Trump’s Alabama because “Judge” Roy Moore is a suspected pedophile. And then lost re-election to the buffoon Tommy Tuberville (gag).

If only…

EMBARRASSED? This Murdoch crowd? REALLY?

To paraphrase an old comedy bit, this is the current "Vibe" and Murdoch enterprises are the Vibrators.

It's time the pro-democracy side started calling these lying liars, liars! Change the vibe.

Steve's point about Kasie Hunt still rattles around my brain. We can't be calling our esteemed colleague a liar. He's our colleague after all and we pay him to serve up alternative facts to our head-scratching audience. This is the new "it's not a lie if you believe it" school of TV journalism. It's comforting for reality deniers to know that there are truth spinners with CNN colleague credentials to provide a fun house mirrored fantasy take on the real world.

Gee, there must be an election on the horizon!!! The Trump related lies will rise to a fever pitch (as if they haven’t been humming along since he left office). Who cares what Murdoch and his peons say!! Biden’s record clearly speaks for itself. He has accomplished more in 3+ yrs, some in a bipartisan manner, than Trump did in 4. Trump’s ONLY major accomplishments amounted to a HUGE tax cut for his ultra rich buddies, responsibility for a disaster response to CoVid (that Biden cleaned up) and an attempted coup. Trump has cemented his corrupt legacy with 34 convictions in New York state re a scheme that may have helped win him the presidency in 2016 along with Russian disinformation help. Remind voters at every opportunity that Trump has no agenda for the American people and the western world other than his version of Fascism and retribution. Remind them that he is a criminal and that he has lost major civil cases worth 100s of millions. His track record is clearly documented. It isn’t the fiction that he peddles. Put him in his place folks!! VOTE!!!

Mike Huddleston's avatar

Okay, so no disagreement with the veracity of what you've stated. The problem is, FACTS DO NOT MATTER to MAGA. Period. Full STOP. Yes, we have to vote. But accomplishments do not matter; this is a cult of personality and superficial electorate.

They still think he won 2020. They think the 34 felony convictions are a witch hunt and a finding that will be overturned by SCOTUS. And if it gets to SCOTUS on appeal, how much do you want to believe on that outcome? They do not care that he is a sexual assaulter, a defamer of his victims, a tax and real estate fraud. So, trying to convince them otherwise based on his clearly documented record will not matter.

Here's a quick hit list for Biden/the Democrats:

- American Rescue Plan

- Inflation Reduction Act

- PACT Act

- CHIPS Act

- Infrastructure Bill

- First gun safety law in 30 years

- Re-authorize Violence against Women Act

- Codified marriage equality into law

- Added 15M jobs

- Unemployment rate under 4% for the longest stretch in history.

All great and wonderful, but none of it matters one bit to the alternative facts believers and alternative universe dwellers.

I’m calling out the two female morons who wrote this horrible attack aimed at eliminating the only defender of women’s rights left in the presidential race. Annie and Siobhan, do you know that women were not allowed to report on politics or serious topics until the 70s or 80s? You are disgracing yourselves as women journalists. You are betraying the women of this country who are suffering under the kinds of laws that Texas is now enforcing. These women should be condemned shunned and shamed for the rest of their professional careers.

Patrick P's avatar

There have always been partisan newspapers but never before have we seen lies and allegations being reported as facts. News outlets should not spin stories to muddy the waters, especially when it comes to a Presidential campaign where the stakes are so high. Rupert Murdoch and his empire has corrupted our society with lies and un-american sentiment that resembles Russia more each day. Perhaps he considers himself as an Oligarch who's greed is insatiable. Either way, he and his fellow Oligarch, Elon Musk prefer to live as kings and the rest of us as surfs and slaves to bend a knee to their might. That is not making America great again, it is bringing Russia to the American shores. Wake up America before we all have to bend a knee and bow to Trump and his evil Kleptocracy.

LOIS MITCHELL-RABEN's avatar

And that’s the problem….the people who wrote it are not the slightest bit embarrassed.

We are facing an adversary that uses their media allies, that abuse the very Constitutional protections that is afforded it. It is a further example that we are not operating on a level field of engagement. What would any of you do to protect your family? How far would you go to prevent people who believe the vile repugnant lies put forward by these outlets and the people, such as many Republican elected officials from both Chambers of Congress behind the lies and disinformation fed to them from harming those that matter to you? I am of the belief that if we are going to return to a rules and truth based society, we must eradicate this domestic propaganda campaign and begin taking the fight that is being brought to us to them. Sometimes in order to preserve what is right, fair and lawful, one must step outside of our self imposed rules of engagement and deploy measures that have the teeth to deliver a knock out blow. Because what we are doing now is thus far ineffective.

Steve, you spoke how you are a free speech absolutist when answering my question during the live talk with Steven Beschloss, I am also as fervently for the freedom of speech. However, when it is being twisted and abused, used as a targeted weapon to destroy truth and undermine the very 1st Amendment it is enshrined in, we must act. This adversary must be crushed and forced into submission by necessary measures.

In as much as it is our responsibility to turnout ourselves and others to hit the polls and vote en masse deploying a decisive defeat, our leadership must also take actions the citizenry cannot. Trump, and his enablers will try to destabilize the election, by repeating the lies of 2020. Because at the end of the day as you have so ably written, Trump will be reelected and then all of yours and others Pro Democracy writings, all of the warning signs that have been put forward by you and others will have been for not.
